Perfect location, tastefully decorated property, helpful staff, good communication, good breakfast in their garden and their sister property has a nice bar. Superior room a bit small (but accords with the m2 described), try to go for a larger room if staying there for more than a couple nights. Loved people watching out the window onto Cedofeita.
I was very excited about this hotel from the descriptions on line (superb, luxury), but I have to say that it did not meet my expectations. Good things: renovated, historic building, clean, in a convenient part of town (not the congested inner city but within easy walking distance). Issues: we were on the top floor which was 3 or 4 flights up a twisting wooden staircase, with no elevator. This was a little tough as we weren’t traveling that lightly (we had a baby with us). And there was no AC. Our room faced the street which was quite noisy at night, so we had to close the windows which did block out the noise, but it was stuffy with no AC. There were no amenities to speak of in the room (no fresh water daily, no coffee service, pretty bare bones), and the room wasn’t refreshed every day. Breakfast area was very small and cramped, on the basement level, and the outdoor area was not comfortable (hadn’t been renovated or fixed up and didn’t have comfortable tables). If you stay here, I’d recommend asking for a room that does not face the street and maybe on a lower floor if you have a lot of luggage.…
Stayed here for 3 nights in the top floor suite. Was very welcoming from the staff. Gorgeous room, great breakfast, perfect location. The place is immaculate. Such a beautiful old building which has been furnished well. Watch out for all the stairs but adds to the charm of the house. Would definitely stay here again.
We loved Casa Carolina! The room was amazing, spacious and clean. The breakfast has everything you could possibly want: fresh fruit, yoghurt, avocado, 3 different kinds of jam and eggs whichever way you like them (scrambled, fried, ...). The only minus was the noice on the street at night. But weirdly it was some sort of demonstration which started at 5 AM for 3 nights in a row, super weird. Because otherwise it's really quiet at night when you sleep at the back of the building.
Pros: We stayed five nights and wished we could stay longer. The guest house has very few rooms and is extremely charming. It has good security from the busy pedestrian street with two locked doors before entering the guest rooms area at night. Both our bedroom and bathroom were very spacious and well appointed and nicely decorated. Our room had a balcony and view to the garden in back of the building. The breakfast is excellent with freshly squeezed orange juice, excellent coffees, eggs made to order, and a very nice variety of other breakfast options. The breakfast room is very pleasant with a view to the garden. The owner, Ioli, was so very friendly and helpful and her crew were also friendly and efficient. Cons: There is no elevator. Luggage must be carried up and down the beautiful staircase. But the staff carried our luggage up to the room. The guest house entrance is a plain gray door on a busy pedestrian street and a bit difficult to find the first time. If you need a cab or Uber, you must walk a half block to the nearest regular street - but there is no traffic noise at the hotel.…
