From the outside of Casa dos Guindais you would never guess what is behind the front door. Don’t be fooled by the unassuming exterior - behind the blue door are five quirky and attractive self contained rooms which provide a unique, comfortable accommodation experience for a city break. The location is excellent, in sight of Pont Luis I, just a few minutes to the river by steps (admittedly a large number, but fine going down and you can get a funicular ride back up for 2.50 euro) and all of the central area attractions are within walking distance. All the rooms are different. You can find details of rooms and their availability on their own website. We chose Douro and Pateo which overlook a small garden accessible to all guests. Álvaro was excellent to deal with from way back pre-Covid when we first booked our rooms through lockdown cancellation and eventual rebooking and finally during our stay. Ana gave us a warm welcome and made sure we settled in quickly. Overall, we really enjoyed exploring the city of Porto and it was made even better by the feeling that we were “home” when we closed the front door behind us on returning and shut out the bustle of the city. We would not hesitate to use Casa dos Guindais again if we return to Porto and are already recommending it to family and friends - it will be hard to find something as good as this on our next city break!

Perfectly reconstructed building with a great sense for the historic structure. Situated in Ribeira, the charming center, just a few steps from Ponte Luis I. Everything is within walking distance, and public transfer is in close vicinity (tram, cable car, central bus station, station). Casa dos Guindais has a wonderful quite garden, a luxury in the middle of the city center!

Central location with good all round amenities. Our studio flat offered a nice balcony for breakfast and evening drinks, was clean and well equipped. Alvaro, the owner, and Ana, the housekeeper, were very helpful with arranging parking as well as providing suggestions for places to visit and eat.

We stayed three nights at Casa dos Guindais in Porto during New Year's 2019/20 and highly recommend it. The location is fantastic, a few minutes walk from the bridge to Gaia and close to great local pastelarias, restaurants, and other attractions. Álvaro was very nice and allowed us to cancel the last night we had booked, as I had to be back in Lisbon for a business meeting. The house and the rooms are stunning, a wonderful mix of old stone masonry and modern decoration. The courtesy port wine upon arrival is a great welcome, and Ana provided all the information we could need about where to go for great food, drinks, and to discover the city. Beds were very comfortable, the room was sparkling clean, all amenities were provided, and we had a fantastic view of Gaia from our balcony (Douro room). We were in Portugal for two weeks and visited 5 different cities - Casa dos Guindais was by far the best accommodation we booked.
