The old town of Guimaraes is a lovely corner of Portugal. And in the heart of the old walled city is the Hotel Da Oliveira, a small boutique hotel that was created by renovating an old building. If you are looking for big and bright, this is not it!! It is a small, charming hotel on a narrow street. The rooms are perfectly renovated, if a bit dark from being within the old town. Guimaraes is a must visit city. Lisbon and Coimbra are well traveled, but Guimaraes which is a bit out of the way, was the surprise of our trip. Do not skip Guimaraes and do yourself a favor and stay at the Hotel Da Oliveira. One last thought: There is no driving in the old city. The hotel provides parking outside of the wall. We drove to the closest port of entry to the hotel, about 100 yards from the hotel, gave them a call and someone from the hotel came out to meet us and take us to the parking garage. Not the easiest but well worth it.…
The hotel has been updated very efficiently in an old building in the historic center of Guimaraes, very convenient located to visit the historic sites. Not at fault of the hotel; but if you are driving, the parking in an area a couple blocks from the hotel makes it difficult to move suitcases to the hotel, and back to the garage. More so inconvenient because the car can't be driven to the entrance of the hotel…
I'm a huge fan of the north of Portugal and it rarely disappoints. Hotel Da Oliveira definitely falls into this category. From the moment that we arrived we recieved friendly, professional service and had a big room with a modern bathroom. The breakfast is an absolute highlight as it overlooks the main square and if it's a sunny day and they can open the doors then it's unforgetable. If I have to choose something negative about the hotel then it would be the fact that due to it being located in the middle of the old town the streets are narrow and natural light is limited. This in no way affected my stay. In short, if you're going to Guimaraes, take this hotel into serious consideration.…
The position and service at this hotel outweighs any slight reservations over the rooms. The room was quite dark but it did keep it cool. Service was excellent and the meals were good as was the Vino Verde.
Nestled into the old city made for an excellent couple of days since you are emerged in history. Breakfast could have been improved with the addition of better quality local pastries, it the rooms were lovely. Also the the exterior woodwork needs restoration to retain its appearance…
