We had a suite which was great. Serviced every day with a smile in her face. Great food and great entertainment in the evenings. Good work by the clown Andrea Mariani. There were four restaurants other than the default buffet option

Hotel's Favourite
THANK YOU for a wonderful holiday….. our 3rd visit and yet again we have left another little bit of our hearts with you. Porto Santo is a wonderful, beautiful, impeccably clean and safe little island. We love the short transfer to the hotel. Check in was quick and well organised despite so many guests arriving at the same time- friendly staff welcoming us all, welcome drink and a live band. Due to our early arrival our room wasn’t ready, which we had expected, but it wasn’t a problem at all. We were given towels and off we went to enjoy ourselves, getting re acquainted with the Dunas Bar and enjoyed the first delicious Prego of our holiday. Then we got ourselves our sunbeds and enjoyed time in the pool… when we were ready we grabbed our room card and found our room where our cases were waiting for us. This was the first time we stayed at the Pestana (previously stayed in the Columbus) and we had a lovely room with a pool view. Our room was cleaned on a daily basis and was spotless. The hotel and grounds are beautiful, well kept and spotless. The staff all work so hard and there is always someone cleaning up in the bar areas and restaurants. We never waited more than 2 minutes to be taken to a table in the restaurant. The food was fantastic, so much variety and different variety each day. We ate at the Pestana this year as we only came fir a week but remember you can use the Columbus too… both have a very different feel. We enjoyed the Italian twice and Maderia Lovers too - absolutely delicious and brilliant service. We always ate at the Dunas bar for lunch to enjoy the Pregos etc, toasted sandwiches and the buffet. It’s a lovely relaxed area near the bar and the pools. Food is cooked fresh so sometimes there is a small queue but it goes quickly as there are 3/4 people cooking. I get upset when I see negative reviews stating they only cook one burger at a time, staff stand around chatting, no one is cleaning the tables- it’s definitely not what we saw or experienced. The beach! Well what can we say…. it’s beyond stunning… we absolutely love it. Beautiful golden sands, clear calm water - our favourite beach we have ever been too. Definitely make sure to enjoy time here- we never reserved the sunbeds. We were just happy to relax on our towels (free wind breaks and parasols) and spend time in the sea. The pools are lovely and clean all around the resort and again you can use both hotels (The Columbus tends to be quieter). Sunbeds were absolutely fine, for the best ones closest to the pools yes you probably needed to be up a little earlier but nothing too crazy and walking across to the Columbus one afternoon, there were lots of sunbeds available. The trips are great- we did the 4x4 last time which is a wonderful way to discover the island. We did the Rib Boat for the 3rd time which we love- it’s lots of fun and you can another perspective of this beautiful island. We love getting the shuttle bus into town, having a walk round, enjoying lunch there in one of the lovely restaurants and walking back along the beach in the sea. We love this hotel and we love Porto Santo and we will be back. Try not to take too much notice of the negative reviews… some of the things stated were definitely not what we experienced. The staff are so friendly and my goodness do they work hard. We did notice there were probably less bar staff than on previous visits but they were speedy and never stopped. Everyone should consider that we have experienced a global pandemic these last couple of years. I can’t imagine how that impacted a tiny island that will rely a lot on tourism for work. This will have massively impacted the hotel in many ways and I think it’s incredible to see how they are recovering. They really appreciate all their guests and work hard to give everyone a wonderful holiday. Thank you for helping us to create many more happy memories and we will definitely see you again soon.

The location is stunning, right on the beautiful sandy beach and the hotel grounds/swimming pools are lovely. The room was spacious with a huge balcony and separate dressing room. The decor was a little tired/dated but no big deal. Plugs had been removed from the sink and bath, potentially indicating a problem with the drains as mentioned in previous reviews. The staff were pleasant enough but didn't seem to know what they were doing - problems checking in/ordering drinks etc. The only major issue was the food. We stayed half board and the evening meal was really poor. More like canteen food than 5 star. Thankfully we were only staying one night but would have been very upset if we had paid to eat there for a week. I don't know whether this was because it was low season and they just weren't making the effort. Good value in November so in conclusion give it a go but eat elsewhere.

We stayed here in October for one week as a family. When we first got there we was met by the entertainment team handing out wrist bands after 2 flights arrived together. The 1st room was nice with a fantastic view of the pool. The next day we went on a little tour of the hotel to get to know where everything is. The beach is lovely we just took towels down as you have to pay for the Chairs. The food was ok not a lot of choice but we did go near the end of the season. After 2 days our water turned yellow that we bathing our child in. We rang reception to be told there was a leak and to run the water for a little first for it clear. A day later we had to be moved to another room as we was told the boiler broke. That wasn’t the best. The room stunk of sewage which we was nearly sick. We was then moved the next day which took them 5 hours to sort out. Then we bar for a drink and the hotel house keeping managers came to look for us and to say sorry for what has happened. We just had to have a beach day as we was still living out of our suitcases :(. The reception staff just thought it was ok. There was a problem with ants coming out of the air con and then had them in the beds. There was mosquitoes all over in each room, we get being in a hot country but not as many as we killed. The hotel had to provide us with a spray to kill the ants and mosquitoes. As with a lot of others asking for help with the ants in there rooms. Porto Santo is a lovely town we did the day trip around the island which was very good and took a trip into town. We would not say this is 5 star hotel also we spoke to the rep to air our concern and was told that the star teatime g should be lower and that the hotel owner has been trying to get it down to 3/4 but is finding it hard. Then at staff were very good and the entertainment team was good and got everyone involved. We won a spa treatment but did not have time to use it due to all the messing about with swapping rooms. Very disappointed in the stay as this our first holiday after covid. A lot of pest control improvements is needed in this hotel and a little more food ideas and more options.

Booked through TUI as a 5 star platinum experience. Unfortunately we didn’t get anything close to 5 star. We read the reviews and decided to give it a go and wished we hadn’t. We’ll start with the positives. Pleasant reception staff. Sits on a great beach. Friendly staff around the complex. Room/suite a good size. TV channels good. Relaxed vibe. Spa a nice option although not serviced or cleaned regularly. Porto Santo a nice island with good weather. The negatives. The complex is grubby and dirty in many places. Eco points overflowing with rubbish and plastic. Bins not emptied enough around complex. Room cleaning poor with no disinfectant. Food generally poor and mislabelled. Drinks poor, had to switch to cocktails and sangria. Entertainment rather bizarre although fire show was good. Pools grubby, one which had a wild duck. Walkways and stairwells not cleaned. Bridges and boardwalks in need of repair. Toilets unkept throughout the day/evening. Lots of bugs, mosquitoes etc. Bar area dirty and not cleaned correctly. Overall if you have 3 star expectations and get a good deal it may be worth it for a week. If you are expecting 5 star please don’t put yourself through the pain. The feedback provided is reviewed by Pestana staff but nothing is done about it. We have cancelled our stay at Pestana Carlton based upon this experience.

The Hotel is probably one of the best on the island , the rooms are spread out in a range of different buildings with central pools and gardens wrapped in palm trees. Very relaxing , not too crowded as we went late in the season.Very good facilities , comfortable rooms . The staff were very helpfull and always on hand for any problems or to give help when needed. The entertainment was brilliant , a mix of traditional and local music , dance and circus type acts with different themed events . The beach is fantastic fine golden sand , easily accesible via a decked walkway from the Hotel. The food coice was ample with specialty dining , Italian , Asian and Mediteranean resteraunts availible . The Hotel staff and holiday reps were very helpful and polite. overall we had a fantastic holiday . I would certainly revisit this resort . The Island is 7 miles long by 4 miles wide and very quiet, not full of noisy discos and bars spilling on to the streets . There are other places to go if that is what you want , Porto Santo is ideal for a relaxed holiday away from it all. The Hotel is ideal for families and couples .
