We had a short, 6 night, holiday to Madeira this year in December and wanted to stay somewhere nice. This was definitely it! Great location on the hillside above Funchal (but just a 15 minute walk down into town or a €7 cab ride back!), its a botanical oasis with a lovely 2.5 acres of garden, Colombos the giant house tortoise and a great pool. The staff were unfailingly wonderful, kind and helpful. Very quiet, beautiful room. Great breakfast. Really relaxed and opulent at the same time. Perfec' getaway!
Room was fantastic with two balconies. Food in the hotel, breakfast, lunch and dinner were first class. Gardens were well kept, flowers blooming in November and Colombo the giant tortoise was the highlight of the gardens. Staff could not be faulted all were courteous, friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. This trip was for my birthday, on returning from breakfast I found a birthday cake and two glasses of bubbly a lovely touch and much appreciated. We were looking for total relaxation and were not disappointed. We will be back.
We had a wonderful week in the Quinta Jardins do Lago at the end of November. My parents spent a week here every year for several years and had always said we should go, so after they passed away recently we decided to go. It is a lovely small hotel in a beautiful garden. Even in November there were flowers everywhere so I’m sure in the spring it must be outstanding - cue another trip! The hotel generally was great and the room was lovely. The staff were outstanding - at every level a credit to the hotel. It has a great swimming pool and gym, Turkish steam room and sauna. There was a courtesy bus several times a day which we used (if it was fully booked they did a second run) but in the evenings, if we didn’t eat in the excellent restaurant, we walked down a near vertical road into Funchal old town for dinner and then either walked back or got a taxi. Walk down was about 20 minutes - slightly more going back up! The breakfast buffet was one of the best we’ve had. Finally I must mention my mother’s favourite at the hotel - the giant Galapagos tortoise, Colombo. He was to be found in his own bit of garden attracting a lot of attention. All in all a wonderful holiday.…
It was our second visit to Madeira and to the Jardins do Lago. Our room was excellent, with a separate balcony upstairs and a fabulous view. The best thing about the hotel is the staff - I'd like to namecheck Rubina, Salvador, Joel, Andre, Hermes, Fatima, Fernanda - but everyone was so lovely it's like being in a country house with family and no arguments! The breakfasts are excellent, lots of fresh fruit and a good selection of other comestibles. I can't praise this hotel highly enough, especially when compared to some ot the other enormous hotels on the Lido. Everything was perfect! Thank you to all of you who made our holiday, especially the recommends for the restaurants!
We were transferred to this hotel as the first hotel was unsatisfactory. We were so pleased to arrive here as everything about the hotel and the service was first class. The gardens are stunning and all the staff were most courteous and kind. We have stayed in Madiera on two previous occasions but this was the best hotel we have stayed in. The food was delicious with lots of variety for breakfast. The courtesy car from the hotel to downtown was frequent and again the driver was most helpful and polite. We cannot praise this hotel enough really and will return very soon.
