We spent 14 nights at the Porto Mare hotel from 2 December to 16 December. We have enjoyed many wonderful holidays at this hotel and this one was no exception. Everyone and everything in this hotel is first class. We look forward to returning soon!
This is our fourth stay at the Porto Mare hotel and again it never fails to please in every way possible. We had a lovely room with views of the beautiful gardens and seaview. The staff at the Porto Mare are always very friendly and helpful and are always happy to accommodate you in every way possible to make sure your stay is perfect. We always book bed and breakfast but because the evening meals are so good with such a good choice we eat at least twice at the Atlantida ( hotels main restaurant). We are already contemplating booking for next year as we love it so much ♥️
We spent a fantastic week in early December at the Porto mare in Funchal, Madeira. 2nd visit to this Hotel - and it wont be our last. Fantastic friendly staff, beautiful tropical gardens, 5 swimming pools, great food and drink - what is not to like? Suggest starting the morning with a walk along the promenade towards the Lido at about 08.00 - In December you will then see the sunrise every morning - simply stunning.
As previous Porto Bay customers, the hotel lived up to our expectations. Previously, we stayed at the Porto Bay Falesia in the Algarve, the usual Porto Bay theme is very much present, but the hotels are also very different. There are a vast choice of swimming pools, but the real crown is the beautiful gardens with so many unusual plants. Tucked away, there's even an orchid garden and a herb garden!!! Service was great, as was the location. Whilst there are more luxurious hotels in Funchal, this one offers very high quality at sensible prices. In our opinion it offers value for money that few competing hotels can offer. This will be our first choice when we return to Madeira.
We had a seven night break on a half board basis in a Sea View room. The room was spacious, clean and well equiped with excellent views over the botanical garden and sea. The breakfast had something for everybody which was of an excellent standard (you might like to ask for boiling water for your tea, its normally luke warm). The evening meal was normally good but limited in the main course choice. The caged birds in the gardens are well looked after, having said that,I would like to think that after they have had their day that managment might re-consider keeping caged birds, its an outdated practice for modern times, much better to see them flying free in the wild. I do not like the hotels system of paying Gratuities i.e. having to write on the receipt for everything you purchase in the hotel how much tip you are leaving, it makes me feel uncomfortable. I have always tipped but do not liked to be asked if I am going to tip. The first four nights in the Happy Hour lounge was spent listening to Nora Joans/Eva Cassidy songs, it was like sitting in "Gods Waiting Room", we might be old but still have a bit of fun and life in us, play something a bit livlier. All of the staff were superb, efficient and professional, that said, I always felt uncomfortable with the reception staff, I cant put my finger on the reason, it could possibly be the dynamic mood swing from greeting you with a frown to a fantastic insincere smile, not quite sure. Would definately go back next December.…
