1. underwhelming experience really. arrival reception team were great and most we met, were great altogether with exception of 1 colleague who just not only failed to be helpful with a late check-out but, what bothered us most was, the really poor attitude and lack of consideration. we could accept nothing could be done but the "i can't be bothered" attitude was enough to push me to write this feedback furthermore, 2. the beds simply not good. 2 twins put together (we asked for couple) and the mattresses were just awful 3. the rooms were quite dated. stepping into a bath for a shower is not something you'd expect in a trendy 5* 4. the casino was tiny (not in actual Hotel but owned by the same organisation) and as a Casino regular in many places, this was perhaps the most disappointing of my travels. Pestana, for someone who owns and manages in Hospitality, is something to be proud of as a Portuguese man, great chain of Portuguese Hotels spread all over the world aiming to deliver a high end experience, often large investments akin of the best hotel chains around the globe but having visited Carlton and now Casino in Madeira, this was, a disappointing experience and out of sync with others i've experienced thus far. said all of the above, you do have great people working in the team and a credit to im guessing the best elements of Management and Leadership…
The hotel is in an excellent location, facilities, staff and food very good. If you want a relaxing break with everything you need this is the hotel for you. I would highly recommend this hotel for family and friends.
I have stayed here many times over the last few years, Covid years excepted. The hotel is well positioned for the town. My room, overlooking Read’s hotel, was comfortable, well fitted out and quiet. Breakfast was more than adequate. I didn’t use the restaurant as I have a dread of hotel dinners, especially buffets. Funchal is endowed with a plethora of quality restaurants, my favourite is Casa Velha right next door to the hotel. My preferred drink is Guinness, so Moynihan’s Irish pub was well frequented. All in all Casino Park represents very good value for a visit to Madeira.
The very large and impersonal breakfast area needs urgently to be fitted with some sort of windows treatment that keeps the vista, also workable coffe machines, the frustration of the sun blinding your eyes and a line that kept growing ...because of the machines being too slow or not working, is not the best start of any day... Staff was very helpful and polite. Other few things that are expected on a 5 star hotel, should be in the room, the guest is not to "chase" the basics, All in all needs a good " refresher" if it's to be classified 5⭐
The location is good. Staff friendly. Breakfast very good. No good with car parking, always full. All hotel is clean and Confort. Every time i go to Funchal Pestana Casino Park is my home, sorry, hotel. 😁
We stayed here 3 night and was relocated after the first night. We could literally here everything that was going on on our neighbours rooms. We thought it was because the room we had was connected rooms if you are a family and there the doors between the rooms wasn’t isolated. But unfortunately it didn’t help changing our room to a non connecting room. The noise was the same. It’s a shame cause the location is absolutely perfect in Funchal, the breakfast was really good and the pool areas lovely. And the view over the ocean is stunning. Go here if you are a good sleeper and not bothered noise from other guests.
Returned to this hotel after being there 20 years ago. Architecturally the hotel is really interesting with big open spaces and very convenient to the town. There are lovely views from different areas in the hotel. We had booked through a travel agency and it turned out our rooms were located near the road (they are the cheaper rooms apparently which we didn't know would be the case) and it was quite noisy. Reluctantly the reception staff provided an alternative room. This had a family next door who liked to stay up late watching TV and you could hear them chatting away, doors banging, even when they plugged something into the socket. There is just no sound proofing and at 1am when you are trying to sleep it is so frustrating. You can also hear people on the corridor.
The lighting in the room was poor, the bedside table was in front of the long mirror which had no light above. The fixed furnishings were too bulky for the size of the room so there was only room for one chair in a room for two people. Housekeeping was fine before new year but went downhill after new year - late making up of room and not replenishing tissues etc. There was not enough information on the hotel, no booklet just a single photocopied sheet. The patio chairs were cumbersome, not easy to move round and not very comfortable. The lobby area was vast and merged with the sunset bar so having a drink was like sitting in a station concourse so no ambience. the only area for lunch or snacks during the day was at the Dockside bar by the pools which was no good when it rained. Not enough lifts for the size of the hotel. In general the hotel was cold and impersonal. Fine for business use and conferences but not a holiday.…
While we had a great experience at the Pestana Casino Park Hotel there was one very annoying niggle. We were pleased to see the complimentary tea and coffee, which you would expect in any decent hotel, in the room along with a complimentary honey cake and small bottle of Madeira wine. Very nice. The complimentary tea and coffess included 3 sachets of coffee and 6 small milk cartons which we used during our first 3-4 days. These were not replaced by the cleaning staff, as would be the case in most hotels. Upon requesting a top up of the coffee and milk, we hadn't used the tea or sugar, we were informed that only the first supply was complementary and top-ups would cost €8. This does seem a little excessive for a couple of sachets of chep coffee which would probably cost about 10c each. When we commented that on all of our previous visits the coffee and milk had been topped up daily we were told that it was to do with room tax and they could no longer provide complimentary top-ups. This seemed like a pretty lame excuse that the staff had made up to cover their embarrassment. So whether you are staying for 2 nights or 2 weeks (as in our case) you only get one comlimentary set of tea, coffee and milk. This does not seem very logical and does seem to be penny pinching. Very disappointing policy. We ended up buying a jar of coffee and carton of milk from a local shop. I doubt that any other 5-star hotel in Madeira has such a policy.…
The property is fine and big. There were few basic things missing however. The rooms didn’t have any complimentary Tea and Coffee and even the mini bar was empty. We were very surprised to see our room service bill at checkout. While the cost of 1 tea and 1 coffee was Eur7.4, they had additionally charged Eur8 for room service. So we ended up paying Eur15.4 for 1 tea and coffee. Please check all charges before ordering.
