Staying at the Savoy Palace for a second time. Was extremely pleased with the first visit and again, on our second visit. A wonderful hotel with excellent facilities. We are in a Garden Room with a view of the gardens and pool. Really enjoying relaxing on the balcony with views of the Atlantic. The room is very comfortable and has the amenities one would expect in a five star property. The staff are so efficient and enthusiastic about their jobs, from Reception, to Housekeeping, to the Food and Beverage staff etc. Huge choice of restaurants, bars and lounges to relax in. We are on a bed and breakfast package where there is a huge choice for breakfast. The choice is amazing. The Savoy Palace in located in an area where there is a number of restaurants and bars. The centre of town is a 10 minute walk away. Excellent location for exploring the sights of Funchal and surrounding areas. To sum up, well done to the Savoy Palace for allowing us to have a relaxing break and to enable us to recharge our batteries for the return to the wet & cold in the UK. Wonderful stay in a fabulous hotel. We will definitely come back at some point in the future. We could not stay anywhere else in Madeira!!…
The Savoy Palace is definitely the place to stay in Funchal, a true 5 star experience. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Our 14th Floor suite was spacious and luxurious with fantastic views over the harbour. The premium guest status was exactly that with lovely treats every day, free access to the Spa and to the exclusive Jacanda Lounge on the 16th floor where we had the most fantastic breakfast every morning. We ate at 3 of the hotels restaurants and each was very different in style but all were provided excellent food and service. We will hopefully be returning before too long.
I came here as a solo traveller half board for my 50th birthday 16.01.23, I was on the 6th floor with lovely views, so I watched cruise ships coming in. I was out all day on excursions, so I was too tired to visit the rooftop bar for cocktails happy hour, which would have been lovely, may I add. I did visit the roof top one day to chill out, as I was only half board. I didn't order any food whilst up there as it probably would have been too expensive. Cocktails were 11/12€ a time, which for this hotel is ok priced, but when I had a cocktail on the strip, I paid 6€. The starter portions are huge, so I struggled to eat all my main course but definitely found room for desert. I preferred to have dinner at Par de lum and always sat outside on the balcony mostly alone, which was lovely to just people watch and listen to the music sometimes live from the restaurant opposite. When it was a little breezy one night, the staff bought a heater out to keep me warm. I would like to say a massive thank you to Suzana, who called me by name Mrs Edwards each time she saw me, and all the other staff that looked after me at par de lum each night. They would spend time talking to me, recommending excursions (especially the polish girl), suggesting cocktails, wine, and food choice even though they were very busy. Reception staff always greeted me when I returned from an outting and asked if I had a good day. I would return and recommend this hotel. Of course people will always find something to complain about wherever they stay but go here for yourselves and decide. Only a 10 minute walk to the marina, bars, shopping centre, old town, McDonald's, pizza hut, h&m, and more. The excursions are a must well worth it until you get told by your REP lunch is included when it actually wasn't. …
The Savoy Palace is a fantastic hotel with wonderful friendly staff. We loved our stay with them and will hopefully return. Service was excellent, the best hotel we’ve stayed in. Lovely bars and restaurants.
We have just come back from a 4 night stay at the Savoy Palace. We have been to Madeira twice before in January and love it here. The weather was warm and sunny and a little breezy. The hotel was really lovely much bigger than anywhere we have been before. The bedroom and bathroom were spacious, comfortable and spotless. The breakfast was excellent and we were able to sit outside. We had a half board option - Table d’hote in Pau de Lume restaurant. Five courses of freshly prepared delicious food with excellent service in a totally relaxed environment. We had cocktails in the rooftop Galatia sky bar at happy hour. The grounds of the hotel were really lovely with lots of loungers. The sun deck on the 16th floor was comfortable with great views over the harbour to see the Cruise ships. We didn’t use the spa as it was 35 euros and the weather was so good. Everything in the hotel looks good and the service was great so thank you.…
My husband and I visited Savoy Palace with our baby following recomendations from family members and our experience really lived up to this. Naturally, visiting Madeira for the first time with our baby, we wanted everything to go smoothly. I emailed the hotel beforehand and received quick responses confirming that all requested needs would be met (ie: bathtub for baby) and offering to book restaurants for us. This correspondence was reassuring and upon arrival we were greeted warmly - with front of staff helping me to get hot water etc for a baby feed - and instantly felt that this was a family friendly hotel. The hotel ticked all of the boxes in terms of friendliness, cleanliness, comfort and delicious food and drink. We stayed in an Ocean view suite room with a kitchenette and balcony etc and this extra space was so helpful with a baby -like a home away from home. It was only a short stay for us but in that time we enjoyed a few of the hotel restaurants and breakfast was the highlight of the day with great quality local cuisine as well as British favourites. Our daughter enjoyed the freshly made omelettes from the egg station. The hotel was in a great location - a short walk from the old town and surrounded by great amenities. Our only regret is not staying for longer. Thank you to all the staff at Savoy Hotel for making our stay so comfortable and memorable. …
Great hotel, amazing staff, great location. We had a wonderful sea view room (767) which was, to us, worth that bit extra to wake up every morning to the splendid view. The room was spacious and modern and constantly kept to the highest cleanliness standards by the housekeeping staff. The people looking after us, made our stay complete. Nothing was too much trouble and always served with a smile and patience ( eg extra hangers, ironing board sorting out 5am taxis ). Breakfast was incredible. We travel a lot and this was the best we’ve encountered. So much choice, such high quality and excellent knowledgable staff to help you with your day. ( shout out to Dario and the lovely lady with the red spectacles… thank you both) The hotel indoor breakout spaces are beautiful, as are the pool areas My only minus was the price of the spa. €30 per day per person I think is too much when you are paying 5* room prices. Finally, I know the time of year may have helped , as nowhere is Funchal was overly busy, but I got the impression that the Funchal people and the Savoy Palace staff especially, want to do their best to encourage positive tourism. Would definitely stay again, should we return at a similar time of year. …
Probably best service experienced in a hotel from the doormen ,bellboys reception restaurant staff and maids all of them so friendly and helpful, it was my girlfriends birthday and we were gifted a bottle of champagne and a birthday cake , the interior is unbelievable, the pool with seating area is amazing, and the rooms perfect with maids attending at least twice a day
We booked a 5 night stay here for our first visit to Madeira. The location is excellent - an easy walk into the centre of Funchal, close to lots of restaurants and on main bus routes. It is a stylish building with excellent views over the port and shoreline. The best thing about the hotel is the staff. Without exception everyone we had contact with was smiling, helpful and courteous, whatever their role. The breakfast was varied and plentiful. Although the bacon and sausages on offer were very odd there was a huge choice of other options, including freshly prepared omelettes and vegan choices. We chose not to have dinner in any of the hotel restaurants as there is such a good choice of good value dining elsewhere in the city. Our sea view room o the 9th floor was spacious and generally well equipped, with a good sized balcony, a small sofa and an enormous bed. The mattress was too firm for us to sleep well, and it was difficult to adjust the air conditioning to be sufficiently cool, even though our stay was in January. The bathroom area was perfectly functional, but we disliked that it had sliding doors rather than being a completely separate room with a fully closing door, as even with sliding doors closed you could hear everything going on from elsewhere in the room. The TV is equipped with a screen mirroring option to allow material from phones and tablets to be screened, but only for Android, not Apple devices which meant we couldn’t use it We enjoyed the large outside pool - water temperature was fresh but fine once you had been in it for a couple of minutes. Plenty of loungers to enjoy the sunshine. We also used the spa - €35 per person per day unless you book a treatment costing over €100, which we did. The spa has an indoor pool, a good sized sauna and a steam room and a separate relaxation area. It was comfortable but extremely dark other than right by the windows, which made it impossible to read a book. The facilities are reached down a long corridor and the access has to be given by a staff member. However the toilets are in the changing rooms outside so each time you use them you have a long walk and then have to asked to be let back in. There is enough space in the spa area for a couple of toilets which would be much more convenient (no pun intended!). My wife and I both had a 90 minute aromatherapy massage which we thoroughly enjoyed - both our therapists were excellent and took the time to discuss exactly what we wanted before commencing the treatments. I visited the gym every day as it was free to use. It is well equipped with a range of TechnoGym cardio and resistance machines as well as free weights and benches. There was never anyone else in the gym whilst I was using it. So overall we enjoyed our stay very much and felt we got good value overall. I would recommend it to others bearing in mind the improvements which we think could be made…
This hotel exceeded our expectations. The room (on the 12th floor) had a great view of the sea, was spotlessly clean and spacious. The service levels are the highest we have experienced in any hotel. The staff are terrific. Breakfast was great with an enormous selection. We ate at Terreiro and the asian restaurant. Both were top class with excellent service. The rooftop terrace was a great plus for relaxing. Cannot wait to return.
