Great staff throughout. Marco at check in helped with our early arrival, and set the scene for all the other fantastic staff at the hotel. Stayed in a corner room with nice sea view and terrace. Our daughter (under 1yr old) was looked after well by staff - gift on children's day, swift delivery of high chair at restaurant every meal, playful staff engaging with her and live music keeping her entertained. Really felt like everyone went the extra mile. Look forward to returning next week!

Hotel's Favourite
Having had several holiday attempts thwarted at the last minute because of the volatile pandemic situation I was delighted to finally make it to Madeira and the Melia Mare. Protocols were excellent everywhere from arriving at the airport and speedily tested. Having checked in to Melia I was asked to remain in my room until test results arrived which they did in under 6 hours. Had a lovely spacious room and was perfectly content that for COVID reasons the room was serviced every other day. Protocols were very well set up and followed. Temperature was taken on entry to the restaurant and masks and plastic gloves whilst inside and serving from the excellent breakfast buffet. Very comprehensive and well presented. Fatima and Lenine, in particular worked tirelessly and cheerfully coping with comprehensive sanitising of every table at changeover. Likewise Hugo and pool staff worked very hard to ensure everything was scrupulously cleansed and maintained. All in all I was delighted by my choice and look forward to returning to the excellent Melia Mare and delightful and charming Madeira. I’ve no doubt that restrictions elsewhere have led to a new influx of visitors most of whom, like myself will have been sorry it’s taken too long for us to experience the multiple delights of this splendid island and its people

Pluses: great location with nice sea views even from partial view rooms, very nice buffet breakfast although coffee queue is a bit of a pain, indoor heated pool with massagers and don't need to book a slot, gym open but need to book a slot, can arrange reasonably priced hired car with free parking Minuses: dated decor, room service food quality is not good, outdoor pool doesn't have enough sun beds Covid protocols: mandatory masks everywhere inside the hotel, limited people inside the lift so long waits

In my opinion not good choice. The staff was not helpful. Everything was closed. The food very poor and always the same. The Gym was open only 6 hours a day. Nothing happened in the evenings. The real 3stars hotel.

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for your review. We're truly sorry your experience, on the whole, did not meet with your satisfaction. Your opinion and feedback is vital to us in our constant and ongoing efforts towards attaining complete guest comfort and satisfaction and appreciate your constructive criticism. Not too sure regarding your comment about everything being closed - as this is not quite true. Yes, there are some offsite restaurants and bars which are still closed but there are many that are open already. With regard to the gymnasium hours, regretfully due to Covid-19 Safety Protocols and Hygiene Control, certain facililties have to have breaks in between for complete disinfection and sanitation procedures which is essentially for both guest and staff safety. Due to the Covid restrictions, evening entertainment has been prohibited. We're sorry our food did not meet with your satisfaction too and your comments will be shared internally at senior level. Unfortunately, we are living in a pandemic situation which has regretfully limited some of the services which can impact on guest satisfaction. Restrictions are being lifted slowly and we do hope your recent stay with us has not deterred you from returning to our lovely island and our Resort. We hope to welcome you back under more normal conditions and look forward to your return. With kind regards and best wishes

First things first: the hotel is clean and all the sanitary measures are well respected. It made us feel quite safe during our stay there. Due to the curfew, we decided to go with a half-pension option. I must say that we were a bit disappointed with the buffet(s). Breakfast is alright, even though exactly the same every single day and the coffee is horrendous, by any standards. For dinner, there is always a salad buffet with little to no variation, a selection of main courses and a dessert buffet. Even though the quality of the food is alright, it really bugged me that some of the plates weren't refilled between the first and the second sitting. On several occasions when we got in around 20h30 (starting time for second sitting), some of the plates were already empty and they hadn't been refilled by the time we left. There is also a larger piece of meat being served at the main buffet on most nights, which is always cut to order... if there were someone present to cut it for you. On every single occasion, we had to wait for someone to show up - sometimes up to 10 minutes. The person who seemed to be in charge watched people line up, but couldn't care less about it. This, along with the fact that plates would pile up on your table before someone decided to clear them (including thr aforementioned person who seemed to be in charge), makes me think that they're way understaffed there at the moment. Despite their flaws at the buffet, they really are trying their best. The staff members are nice and accommodating, and so are the rooms. I'd come back here again, but certainly not for a half-pension or even an all-inclusive deal!
