The Downtown Design Hostel is just off Rossio Square, on which you have a great view - as the hostel is situated on the third and fourth floor - from the breakfast table. Rooms are clean, breakfast is ok. Don't get your hopes up about the "design", which in fact is just an ordinary IKEA interior.

This hostel is way too expensive for what it really is. For a family room for 3, we paid 332€. The room is decent. Only 1 power outlet in the whole room, and only 1 ceiling light. No small lamps. The breakfast is decent. However there is no actual dining area - if a large group takes up the table,...

Had a perfect stay there in December 2013. It's been some time but the staff is the same and they were very nice. The hostel was dirt cheap and the location was perfect. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good place to stay in Lisbon.

- Very good location. This is in Rossio area and very accessible to with the city metro. So it's easy to go here even if you're coming from the airport. Chiado and Baixa area is also walking distance. - Breakfast is included in the fee. Though the selections are not that wide, it's quite good for a hostel level. Aside...

Had a good time here back in 2013, yeah I know it's some time ago. Pedro who was working there back then was very helpfull and the room was fine. Nice central location to explore the city and we had a great view over the square next to the hotel, the Rossio.

The location is very good within walking distance to monuments, metro, buses and trams. The price was a bargain and included breakfast which was served in a room overlooking a very busy main square. Our room was good, without luxuries but clean and simple. The staff was very nice and gave us very good advices for restaurants and transportation. The...

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in October. We booked a room with en suite bathroom and a view. The view was lovely, over the square. The room was basic but well done. I thought it may be noisy due to bars and traffic outside, but it wasn't. What woke me up was our room was off...

We were very well received by the staff that also prepared a very good breakfast with fruits, cereals, coffee, cakes, fresh bread, jams, etc. This has probably the best location in town since it is right in front of a main square in the center with metro, buses, trams right at the door. The room had a big window to...

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
