Excellent, distinguished accommodations in a treasured site next to, almost adjoining the Castela Sao Jorge. There were peacocks resting on the rooftop as we looked out the window of our room. All staff were very kind, helpful and multilingual. We came as part of the Heritage Hotel system. Other hotels in this group were also very pleasant. Thank you! to...

We had a little trouble finding this gem of a hotel but once we did, we realized it was worth the trouble! This boutique hotel is a little oasis in an area that is saturated with tourists. We were exhausted when we arrived but were greeted with two glasses and a bottle of port. What a lovely welcome...The staff was...

Every evening, before my candle-lit bath, while enjoying a complimentary glass of Port wine, after a long day exploring the sights, tastes AND HILLS of Lisbon, I'd enjoy the solitude of the lobby after midnight while relaxing deep in thought on the couch... I'd play the tape of my day back in my mind, look around at the tasteful decor...

We spent our last night in Portugal in Solar do Castelo, and it was a night well spent. The location of the hotel allowed for us to pack our last day in Lisbon full of activity as we explored the castle and wandered around the Alfama listening to Fado. The historic nature of the hotel was very cool. We could...

Dear Guest, Thank you very much for staying with us and for your review. We are particularly pleased that you enjoyed seeing various artifacts, from the iron age until the 18th Century, when the house was built. The existing house was known as the Palacete das Cozinhas (Kitchen’s Little Palace) because it was built in the place where the Royal...

This unique hotel was perfect for an overnight in Lisbon. We arrived before check-in, but the staff kept our luggage safe, and the invited us have tea & coffee & a snack. While our room was readied we were able to walk the few steps to the castle of Sao Jorge and enjoy wonderful views of the city, its lovely...

The hotel is set in the Sao Jorge part of Lisbon and is a stones throw from the Castle. Very atmospheric and comfortable hotel with friendly and helpful staff- thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Belem is a must see. Watch out for pickpockets and taking taxis from the airport - we were ripped off to the tune of 30 euros to...

Solar do Castelo is a charming hotel option when staying in Lisbon. Only 1 km walking distance from the center of town (granted directly down or up hill), it also boasts some spectacular views. You definitely feel the personal touch here as there are just a few very unique rooms. We opted for a Mansarda room, which was at the...

Perfect stay, hotel is wonderful and the staff could not have been better. The hotel location is excellent, with very interesting building which has been brought up to contemporary standards in a very clever way. It very much felt like a great home for the weekend.

Lovely hotel in the heart of the gorgeous cobbled Castelo district, right next to the castle. Very pretty and comfortable room. Lovely courtyard to enjoy the sun. Excellent varied breakfast, available until 12pm. Staff were brilliant, all really friendly and helpful with restaurant recommendations, bookings etc. Honesty bar, tea and coffee and pastries available in the afternoon/evening and complimentary port...

A historic quiet hotel! We liked the location nearby Castelo De Sao Jorge. Good service, and nice clean rooms. It was nice to sit outside in the backyard. We would like to come back! We really enjoyed our stay!

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
