We really enjoyed our stay, the staff was very kind and helpful. It is located on a quite street, but it is close to many attractions in the heart of the city. The breakfast is full of wonderful pastries, meats & cheeses. We would stay here again!

We stayed for 2 evenings in early Sept 2016 in the Calcada II and III. Although difficult to find by car, it was a perfect location behind a protected gate and we did not need the car during our stay. The Rossio Train Station was minutes away and we were within walking distance to many major sites in the Chiado...

Beautiful old casa, situated high above Rossio square and station, heart of tourist city, offering well-appointed and well-maintained suites and rooms, with an in-room breakfast service and basic kitchenette. Helpful reception and friendly premises staff. If you want to see the view, you need to book a room which specifically lists that - none of the public rooms or areas...

Beautiful hotel, great location and fantastic service! A gem in the heart of Lisbon. We stayed here with two other couples for two nights and the rooms were clean, spacious and unique. They set up a special table in the courtyard for breakfast for us one morning and it was very special! This is a beautiful boutique hotel!

I spent three nights at the Casa Balthazar on the recommendation of a friend who had previously stayed there. It was a great suggestion. My room, the Calçada II, was spacious and comfortable with a terrific walk-in shower, a big bed, a nice table for sitting at (plus other comfortable chairs), air conditioning that overcame hot weather in Lisbon, and...

My wife and I, and two couples, stayed at Casa Balthazar for 2 nights in September 2016. We had the Duque Garden suite. The room was spacious and well appointed, with contemporary comforts and a charming 'antique' / classic european style. The hotel pool is perfect for a plunge after a day walking the city, and the help yourself honor...

The hotel is located in the heart of Chiado and makes easy walking to all of the best food, shopping and attractions the city has to offer. Loved our time at Casa Balthazar! The pool was the perfect respite on a hot day. The breakfast was simple but tasty. The room was simply decorated. My one con: they desperately need new pillows. All of the pillows in our room were like pancakes. A simple upgrade for a nice place to stay.

We stayed here for 4 nights. Feels like home. This hotel is so well located. Everything at your doorstep - great food, monuments, shopping - perfect!! Our room was large with a sitting area and huge bathroom. Breakfast every morning was delicious and served in our room. Others had breakfast by the pool. The hotel staff were all so friendly...

My son and I spent 4 nights here celebrating his 21st anniversary before he returns to his senior year at university. It's in a perfect location in the Chiado close to everything. Gorgeous terrace with incredible view from our room. Delicious breakfasts. Charming and quiet courtyard with a pool. Very helpful staff. If you take a day trip to Sintra,...

Staying in Chiado & Carmo

Neighbourhood Profile
Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.
