Located downtown Lisbon, in Chiado, Casa Balthazar is part of the city’s history.Balthazar, the founder of the famous Confeitaria Nacional (the oldest pastry in Lisbon), acquired this beautiful property in August 1882. The house, with wonderful views to the castle and Rossio, still belongs to the family. The old factory, where all the cookies were produced to Confeitaria Nacional, including the famous “pastel de nata” and many other old recipies, became a restaurant. The family atmosphere can be felt in the living rooms and rooms which provides comfort and a unique experience.Come learn more about Lisbon and you’ll have a surprise.

We had booked 2 rooms for a total of 5 nights. We loved everything about this hotel. It is hidden behind a tall wall and gate ensuring the privacy of its guests. All the rooms and public areas are tastefully furnished and there is interesting and quirky artwork throughout the property. The hosts couldn’t have been nicer and made us feel welcome throughout the stay. Due to COVID breakfast was delivered to the room on a tray with a nice selection of fruits, ham and cheese, a selection of rolls and pastries. And because the hotel used to be a historical pastry factory, there are always some delicious pastries delivered with the breakfast. The level of cleanliness throughout the property was kept to the highest standard and we felt totally safe during our stay. Definitely a place we like to visit again

The hotel is very charming and perfectly situated to walk most everywhere. I spent 4 nights here with my grown daughter and even though the room was small, it worked out fine since we had a lovely terrace with a hot tub and great views of Lisbon. The staff were all very nice and helpful. You feel like you're staying at a friend's home here. The decor is lovely and the beds are very comfortable, although the walls are a little thin and I could easily hear my neighbors—luckily they weren't loud.

The other guests who we spoke to at this hotel all agreed - this is a little oasis in the heart of Lisbon. Though literally steps from several busy restaurants (all with outdoor seating), inside the walls of Casa Balthazar there is a calm and peaceful atmosphere. Our room, the Duplex, was huge, with its own rooftop terrace that gave a wonderful view over the hills of Lisbon. But we spent a part of each day sitting next to the pool, enjoying the garden and a glass of beer from the honor bar. All the staff were so kind and helpful with information on where to eat and what to do. It was such a nice relaxing start to our Portugal trip!

Wow, what a hotel. The room we stayed in - the panoramic terrace - was absolutely incredible. Amazing views over the city and just a beautiful and relaxing spot. The whole hotel is beautifully appointed, room was comfortable and with excellent blackout curtains, and the breakfast was exceptional. The onsite secure parking lot was a huge plus as well.

I went with my partner and another couple also stayed in a different room. The staff were invisible but also on-hand as soon as you needed them, everything was immaculate and pristine and we loved the style of the hotel. Both us and our friends had big, well thought out rooms with superb facilities and the attention to detail was second to none. It was peaceful with stunning views and we enjoyed having breakfast delivered to our room.
