A terrific small hotel on a quiet street in old Lisbon. First rate staff, large well-appointed room with a wonderful view over Praca Rossio, the fortified castle and monastery. Wonderful breakfast of fresh fruit, fresh local bakery items, meat and cheese, juice and coffee, all served in your room. The common areas are warm and inviting, as is the small...

Casa Balthazar is a beautiful property in the center of the Barrio Alto section in Lisbon. It is a short walk to many restaurants, shops, bars, and public transportation. Our accommodation was large and well appointed with colorful pictures throughout the rooms. There is a pool on the property as well. You can't beat the views either and the stay...

We stayed in Lisbon in Sept 2016. It was very hot and it was such bliss to return to our apartment and sit on the terrace or lie in the pool. To be delivered breakfast every morning by a knock on the door and to have it set out on our terrace was luxury. The apartment was a short walk...

Casa Balthazar was a wonderful guesthouse for our stay in Lisbon. The breakfast was outstanding and the people in the office were extremely helpful with suggestions for activities and reservations. Casa Balthazar is in walking distance of most of the areas that we wanted to visit. We would definitely choose to stay at Casa Balthazar again, highly recommended.

Wow - what an amazing oasis in the heart of Lisbon! After spending some time in Madrid and Seville we were so happy to arrive at this idyllic and peaceful hotel. Our taxi driver from the airport had a bit of trouble finding the street and ended up dropping us off at the top so we had to walk down...

The service and room were divine. We checked in and were glad that we got a room with a view. The breakfast was served in our room and it was perfect. The bed was comfortable and the room had plenty of space.

We stayed four nights at the Casa Balthazar and were totally impressed by the location, aesthetics, and thoughtfulness behind the hotel design and layout. Staff were extremely helpful in helping us find - a wonderful personal tour guide to explore Lisbon its neighborhoods and history, - excellent restaurants, - and art galleries. Being in Chiado made walking to restaurants and...

We had the best stay at Casa Balthazar. It is right in the heart of the historic downtown Lisbon and you can walk everywhere. When we arrived, you didn't even know it was a hotel as it's in the middle of a street with homes, restaurants, etc ... a hidden gem! The receptionist made all of our reservations for dinner...

Staying in Chiado & Carmo

Neighbourhood Profile
Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.
