Ok- I didn't actually stay here. I did, however, ask for a tour so we could see if we wanted to stay there next time we are in Lisbon- which we will. I am extremely impressed with what they have done with this historical and ancient property! They have not diminished it's antiquity with modern touches but rather enhanced it-...

I am smiling thinking about our time at the Palacio Belmonte. What an experience! First, I have to agree with the other reviewers who have loved this place for - and not despite - its quirks. From the moment you step inside the palace walls everything is different, starting with the fact that there's no obvious entrance...but not to worry,...

First and foremost, this place is wonderful. It felt like we were living in the oldest part of Lisbon rather than staying at a hotel. There were other guests, but we barely saw them. It was like it was our own house. The palace has been updated in a way we love, mixing old and new beautifully. There are some...

My family stayed at the Palacio Belmonte for two nights in Lisbon during the St. Anthony festival. The hotel staff was incredibly helpful before we arrived, helping us with options for things to do during the day and dinner reservations at night. They also arranged for excellent transport from the airport when we arrived. We had one family suite and...

Unique and magical place with only 9 exceptionnel suits. Located in the heart of Lisbon. You can reach everyting by foot. The private garden with all the fruits and the pool will let you feel like your are in paradise. I recommend you to book a suit with a terrace. The views are absolutely stunning!

The palace has been meticulously and lovingly restored, each suite is a unique section of the castle with it's own history. A cool breeze flows through its tiled rooms and libraries. This is not a hotel to just stay one night in, you need to alternate between busy, stylish Lisbon and this tranquil hill-top retreat, recharging your batteries. Take a...

The Belmont Palacio is a wonderful spot not only because it's really cool from a design point of view, but the owners and few staff make it really special. Once a palace, the layout of the suites can be a little quirky, but one gets over this quickly due to the overall simplicity and beauty. The owners Fredrick and Maria...

Beautiful rooms in a grand if slightly faded palace with views across the city and the Tagus and next to the St Jorge Castle in the Amalfa district of Lisbon along with a secluded garden with fountain and small pool set the scene for a great stay. The staff are unfailingly courteous and helpful and one evening walked us to...

A unique and unforgettable experience. The terrace suites are a must. Amazing views, excellent service, lovely staff and owners. Just top notch! Not to be missed. The neighborhood is quaint and filled with shops and restaurants, all within walking distance. We stayed here and did a day trip to Fatima. My only regret is we didn't stay long enough.

We planned a 3 days trip to Lisbon with our two children. I've heard of this hotel a couple of years ago from a friend who stayed there. Before reserving, my husband has been in contact with the staff to organise the reservation of restaurants (no restaurants in the hotel) and he was already impressed by his hospitality and attitude....

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.

At the Belmonte there is no crowd, no noise, no chocolate on the pillow, no television, just fresh air, space, light, your own laughter and music. For an experience beyond compare, far back to our roots, to our childhood, to fantasy, let Palacio Belmonte be your house while discovering the wonderland of Portugal. Palacio Belmonte offers 10 suites, all different, all unique, some with terraces, winter garden or built in a Roman tower with 360º view or in a Muslim one on top of a 40 meters high rock, all equipped with fully modern bathrooms, natural ventilation, a Mediterranean garden and black marble swimming pool to relax, read or dream. House of the Earl of Belmonte, Cabral and the Marquis of Atalaia for the past 500 years, the Belmonte is a stunning sculpture, a 2197 years synthesis of Portuguese history. It became a few years ago the House of a Landscape Collector. He then decided to open his house to a very few for whom luxury is synonymous of encountering one's emotions. Palacio Belmonte prides itself on delivering memorable unique customized experiences for those who choose to stay with us. For this reason Palacio Belmonte suggest experiences that can be personalized for you, whether it be a fabulous sunset in a yacht on the Tejo River, a private tour to unique architectural features of old Lisbon, your own private Fado singer, a special day out with wine, olive oil tastings and Lusitano horses in the Alentejo or maybe a dinner at the unique local "Tascas" in which you will experience the real authentic Portuguese hospitality. The Belmonte is the most veiled secret in Lisbon... And definitely a place to experience! History, Architecture, Culture, Sustainable Development... Here you will not find a standard accommodation but a single life option!
