There's absolutely nothing bad that I could say about Browns downtown. We stayed in the superior double and the minute we arrived in the hotel we received amazing service. They were really friendly and helpful and let me switch to a different room upon request with no fus at all. Reviews here say small bathroom but we found it fine,... More

Really special hotel. Easy to miss outside so pay attention to the door labels. The location is otherwise perfect. Just a step away from the busy center of Lisbon. You are in the middle of everything but it feels still quiet. Open the door and you'll see a very special lobby area. Doesn't really feel like a hotel at all.... More

It's hard to beat this location: two blocks from the Metro, three blocks from the Trams, four block from the waterfront, and four blocks the other direction to the Rossio entertainment district. The staff is exceedingly friendly and helpful. The lobby lounge areas were always a great place to strike up a conversation with other travelers over free coffee. The... More

We moved here as we came to the end of our stay in Browns central, and decided to stay another day, but they were full, so they found us an 'equivalent ' room in their sister hotel Browns downtown...... The staff are fantastic, friendly, professional, helpful, and efficient, but the hotel, leaves a lot to be desired. No bar, no breakfast, no... More

Very friendly, eager to help, young staff. Our room was nice though small. Bathroom had good shower with hot water. Excellent location just blocks from the metro, tram, and lovely square that has several cafes, all with outdoor seating. We enjoyed Populi for dinner our first night which a staff member recommended. Walked everywhere from the hotel.

When arriving we heard our promised room was not available, and we got a room on the second floor. Rooms are well equipped, decorated with style, but relatively small. The hotelmanager offered us a compensation for the error, which was appreciated. The employees were very helpfull and polite.

Frankly, I found the website a touch off-putting; all a little jazzy and avant-garde, I thought, but I was wrong, and very glad I booked rooms anyhow. The property is odd; joined commercially to another hotel a block away, and a coffee shop a different block away, it was fabulously quirky. Rooms were good; my travelling companion, as is the... Excellent hotel with a very hipster feel. Has a lot of high tech gadgets like iMac and iPads for your use in the room. Very clean, excellent location. You can walk just about anywhere. Close to the metro too so you can take that to get to places were further out. One weird thing about our room, the shower wasn't... More

We book 3 rooms for 5ppl. The guy in the reception was honest enough to tell that the extra bed is not the best for adults. Rooms are clean, beds are comfy. The airconditioner is working quite noisy but apart from that it is a slient street. We enjoyed our stay.

Overall, I was pretty happy with this hotel. But for a few small things, I would have given it an even higher rating. Pros: 1. Very friendly staff. Everyone spoke English, and was very eager to help plan trips, find restaurants, or call a cab. They also let me check in early because my flight arrived before check-in time. 2.... More

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
