Spent a week on the top floor of the Hotel do Chiado, overlooking Rua Garrett all the way up to the statue of Pessoa and beyond to the Praca de Camoes. What a splendid hotel! The location is just perfect for visiting anywhere from the garden of the Principe Real down through the Bairro Alto to the Chiado and on...

A great location in an upmarket area with nice restaurants nearby. The hotel is next to a shopping mall and a Metro station is below but our room on floor 7 was totally quiet. Would definitely stay there again.

We stayed for five nights and found this hotel a friendly, efficiently managed, clean and very conveniently located refuge at the end of a long day exploring this amazing city. Obviously the rooftop bar scores points. What an amazing view! Why bother joining the queue for the Santa Just tower along the street when one can sip a drink in...

I'm not sure if everyone gets a private balcony, but we did! The room was lovely and on the top floor for sleeping rooms (7th floor). The hotel location was perfect and the city is easily walkable from the hotel, with plenty of food options nearby. The free breakfast was amazing, and I had my first passion fruit of my...

The location could not have been better. The staff is very friendly and you get your car parked, which is a blessing. The room was perfect and very clean, the breakfast excellent and the bar on a terrace with a wiev over the ocean and the city was worth a travel. We will be back, for sure!

We stayed for 3 nights at this hotel and we were very satisfied with the facilities and helpfulness of the hotel staff. The hotel is above the Baixa-Chiado metro station. There is no noise, however, from the Metro. Hotel reception were very helpful. Our room was spacious and in a good state of decoration. The room faced the street but...

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!

Hotel do Chiado was built in the historic building of Armazéns do Chiado, nowadays a shopping center, which was completely restored by the famous architect Siza Vieira after the tragic fire of 1988. Located in Chiado, the trendiest, elegant and chic meeting point of Lisbon, this is the only hotel in town that offers rooms with private terraces and panoramic views of the Castle and the TagusRiver.
