Spent 3 nights at the guesthouse and could not find fault. The staff were very friendly, it's set in a historical neighborhood and close to the station. It's easy to walk around Lisbon from here and there are many little cafes and restaurants. The rooms are basic but clean and perfectly adequate considering how cheap the guesthouse is.

This is a clean , simple but tasteful B&B. Very good location, nice personnel. There is no wifi in the rooms, but otherwise everything is perfect. The location is really good: close to Alfama and good location for travelling further by train. Just 20 min from the airport.

This GuestHouse/Hostel is very central in the Alfama district 5 minutes walking distance from train connections (St. Apollonia), Plaza de Commercio and city center. The price is affordable and it has free WIFI Access. Since it is an old building, there is no elevator and the four floors have steep steps that can be exhausting if you have big luggage...

In a very central location, close to the main streets and to the railway station, the room was spacious and clean, the whole structure is nicely furnished. In February we paid just 30 euros/night for a double room with private bathroom, with breakfast included, one of the best I've ever had in an hostel/guesthouse! Fresh bread, cake, different jams, coffee,...

We had a nice River facing room with a cute balcony on the top floor, with a small & clean room & bathroom with an excellent shower. The breakfast is simple & its mainly breads, jam & some fruits; but for only $36euros/night for my 2 people, I ate a lot of breakfast & was satisfied. The hostel is old...

My girlfriend and I stayed at Guesthouse Beira Mar the two first days when we visited Portugal the summer of 2013 and decided to spend our last night there before flying back to Denmark as well. We enjoyed it. It was in an exiting neighbourhood and very close to the center of Lisbon, and the people working there were very...

This is a weird little hostel. My brother and I stayed there for 2 nights and shared a room with a double bed and a showercabin inside the room (right next to the bed!). Everything in the room seemed old and outdated, and I'm not too sure about how clean it was ... all in all a weird little place...

this "guest house" (i would say hostel!) is in a very nice part of the old town, a good location for exploring Lisbon. Unfortunately I cannot say much else about this hostel. when we arrived the building was in the process of being renovated meaning there were builders banging around and painting throughout the day, and also walking through the...

Staff were extremely helpful, friendly and understanding and dealt with the problem in our room as best as they could. The shower had an issue and the room as a result became damp and smelly. They fixed the shower, which is a testament to their professionalism, but the room remained smelly due to typical Lisboan old building restrictions preventing the...

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
