This hotel was meant to be the treat at the end of a cycle trip from Porto. Unfortunately we received the same ‘welcome’ as the previous reviewer. Despite cycling down the Atlantic coast and staying in some fantastic small hotels who all accepted our UK vaccination certificates without hesitation, we had to provide a negative test on arrival. Not really an issue if we’d been forewarned. There was absolutely no welcome at all and we were constantly made to feel the hotel was doing us a favour by letting us stay there. The hotel was definitely not full and there was an eerie empty feeling throughout as most guests ate and socialised in beautiful Cascais itself. The room was lovely and spacious but strangely only had sun beds on the balcony there were no tables or chairs. Breakfast was excellent and the service improved each day as staffing levels increased. This hotel has a long way to go to match the standards of hospitality we received in all the other 3 & 4* hotels on our Portugal trip. Needs to do much better.

We recently returned to Cascais for a vacation after living there for all of 2018. We were at the Holmes Place Gym nearly every day while we lived there and the Miragem was always a beautiful looking hotel with a great lobby. We decided to spend our last couple of days there after moving out or our Airbnb and were sadly disappointed. Yes the hotel has a spectacular location and if you have a sea view room, which we did, it has a breathtaking view. But when you get into the rooms it is an entirely different story. The bathrooms are severely outdated with obviously very old marble tiles. The shower had separate hot and cold water controls so getting the temperature right was a challenge. There is also a motion detector that turns off the lights so if you take a long shower get ready to have the lights go out on you. There is a dearth of outlets in the room so charging more than 1 iPhone at a time was a challenge. We had maintenance come up three times because of electrical problems in the room. We asked to speak to the GM but were told he doesn't work weekends and the Manager on duty was either unempowered or uninterested to do anything. Perhaps the most obvious and tacky feature was how they mounted the TV on the front of the credenza where they had replaced the old tube models with flat screens that did not fit so they just stuck them on the front of the furniture as you can see in the picture below. Yes the pool is amazing but for a 5 star hotel that is as expensive as the Miragem I have to say they should lose 2 of their stars. I have literally spent thousands of nights in hotels including having Lifetime Titanium with Marriott and having had top tier loyalty status with IHG, Windham and Best Western and I have never been more disappointed in a hotel. I am not sure if it is that single hotel or all of the hotels this company runs but it seems pretty obvious that it is being treated as a cash cow and not being given the attention it deserves and needs

This is a beautiful hotel which I would have rated as ‘Excellent’ had it not been for our experience at ‘check-in’. On arrival the receptionist was polite but a little cool, and when we showed her our UK Vaccination Certificates curtly stated that these were not acceptable, as we are not in the EU any more! We had been travelling in Portugal for 2 weeks by then, and had never been told this before and from our research believed a reciprocal arrangement between the EU and UK was in place to accept each other’s certificates, (which was the case, as I later confirmed online). She was adamant however that our certificates were not acceptable, and that as our PCR certificates were 2 weeks old, we must pay 5€ each to take a ‘lateral flow’ test, unless we had our own sealed tests with us, (which we did, but had to find from the bottom of our luggage!). This was all rather embarrassing and vexing, given that I was sure she was wrong, but didn’t wish to make a scene or prejudice our later treatment by the staff. Whilst we waited for the result, I checked the UK Government Site, which sure enough stated the reciprocal arrangement, and gave a link to the Portuguese Government website which corroborated this. I showed the receptionist this, and she said she would inform her Manager. For future reference, the following statement may be useful:- It is mandatory to present EU COVID Digital Certificate or a negative test* in: - Tourist accommodation, upon check-in (where in the case of tourists from the United Kingdom it is also acceptable to present a proof of complete vaccination recognized for the purpose of entering our country. (This it’s a corresponding excerpt from Portugal’s Government site:- Os turistas provenientes do Reino Unido que tenham um comprovativo de vacinação completa reconhecido para efeitos de entrada no nosso país podem também apresentá-lo no momento do check-in. Aside from this, our room was spacious and well-appointed, though I was surprised that both the towels and especially the toilet paper was not softer… it was really quite rough! The poolside is also attractive and well-maintained, but when I ordered a cocktail, it never came. After 1/2 an hour I asked another waitress, who brought it to me, but the quality was not good, especially considering the price! The quality and choice at breakfast was good, and the staff helpful. The food served at lunch-time was also tasty and attractive. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but unfortunately the our ‘check-in experience’ did ‘cast a shadow’ over our stay.

From beginning to end this hotel was excellent. We were an adult family of 4 on a 5 night stay. The check in was great, we were upgraded upon arrival to seaview rooms which were breathtaking. The pool service was quick and easy, the breakfast was delicious and varied, and all the staff were so lovely. Special thanks to the friendly breakfast/pool bar waiter, I didn't get this name but he was so chatty and always remembered us, and the fact that I take almond milk! This hotel was the safest-feeling I've been to since covid restrictions began. We ate at the pool bar twice for lunch and it was superb, however it's expensive compared to restaurants down in the town. We didnt dine in the hotel in the evening so can't comment other than it looked lovely when passing by. The pool area fills up quickly and I know it was full on our last two days (weekend days) however we always found 4 beds together after breakfast quite easily. They lift your towels if you've reserved sunbeds which I like as it's only fair and that way everyone gets one and there's no scramble at 8am or anything. Our room was cleaned to a high standard daily. The rooms are lovely, my only gripe was the shower is quite small, however there is a bath too if you like that. Cascais itself is beautiful and charming, with excellent restaurants. It's around a ten minute picturesque walk to the centre from the hotel. We loved our stay and we will be back to Miragem!
