As life is too short we never go to the same place twice. There are two exceptions to this rule: a riad in Marrakech and Casa nas Serras. Like last time, we really enjoyed our stay. It was great to see how the B&B had evolved as we hadn't been here for many years. The pool is definitely a great addition and we spent a couple of days at the pool side, just reading, swimming and enjoying the environment. The breakfast was still as great as we remembered and the hosts are ever so helpful with tips on local restaurants, local activities and places to visit. It had everything we needed: close to nature to go hiking and kayaking, a pool for a lazy day, and close to Coimbra for some great restaurants and its historical sites. I am sure this wasn't our last visit to this amazing B&B.

This is a charming house located in the country, approximately 25 minutes from Coimbra. There is a great picture of the house on their website to give you an idea of the setup: rooms are located on the ground level and breakfast is served on the 2nd floor balcony overlooking the countryside. Inside, the second floor is reserved for the owners' family. It's quiet and relaxing, nice after staying in downtown Porto. We stayed in room 4 as it was the last one available. I knew it was a small room and normally this does not bother me as we don't usually spend much time in the room. However, I must admit it was too small for my liking because, if you open your suitcases, there is not room to walk around. We also found the room stuffy when the patio door was closed at night as there are no windows--and this is the only reason for my 3 star evaluation of sleep quality. There is a nice private sitting area outside the room where it is nice to relax at the end of the day and also a nice pool (although the water was a little too cold when we were there even though a few younger guests were taking a dip). Breakfast was very enjoyable sitting in the sun on the balcony and the food was delicious. Angélique and Frederick, our hosts, are a lovely and friendly couple. Driving to Coimbra is an easy 25 minute drive and Angélique recommended a parking lot near the bridge that only costs something like 5 euros. From there it's an easy walk to all the sights. Being in the country, it is also necessary to drive about 10-15 minutes to restaurants for supper--the price to pay for staying in the country I guess--and there are not that many options, particularly on Mondays when many restaurants are closed. I recommend this B&B if you don't mind driving to the restaurant for supper but would not recommend room 4 unless you are a single person.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa nas Serras. Frederik and Angelique were gracious hosts, suggesting restaurants and driving directions to nearby sites. The views from our patio were splendid, and the pool very inviting. An honor bar refrigerator stocked with wine and other beverages. Each of the rooms has a private patio and comfortable seating. The rooms are immaculate, and the hospitality memorable. We paln to return!

The kidness and hospitality opens when you open the gate of the house! Frederick (the host) & casa nas serras is feels like an extra home in Portugal! With his great advise about travel routes, restaurants and all other things you can do so much amazing things! But you can chill and relaxed at the big pool with a view of the green environment and small towns. Thank you, we will definitely return!

My husband and I stayed 3 days in Casa nas Serras. Frederik was the perfect host, suggesting restaurants and even his favourite items on the menu, supplying directions to local sites including the Roman ruins, and offering us use of the honour bar. I was concerned before we arrived about the house pet as I am quite uncomfortable around dogs. Chopin was ideal for me as he did not try to prove he was my friend, nor did he come within my personal comfort zone. He is a lovely dog (not easy for me to say) - he spent time on our terrace, but just lay quietly about 4 ft from my chair. It was wonderful to stay based at Casa nas Serras and relax after a hectic week in Lisbon and area. I highly recommend Casa nas Serras and your host Frederik (who was on his own while the rest of his family were away).
