Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Well, the hotel is very poor and puritan: there was not even a chair in the room, the bathroom is “old fashioned”, the cleaning staff somehow rearranged everything meaning that for example he/she threw my pajamas on the shelf next to the bed, the window is at least 100 year old so you can hear every noise and you cannot even open the window unless you pull it up and put a thing under the window that holds it. The breakfast was poor, however it was quite a surprise that they offered Starbucks coffee. It was complicated to connect to the WiFi, the receptionist had to type in the pw and explain the different networks. I am quite sure that during my batteries did not recharge during the sleeping.

Hotel Sao Francisco should be called Hotel Sao Thieves. If I could I would give them a zero rating. My daughter and I went out for a short walk. When we returned back to our room to retrieve our bags we found the maid/clean lady looking into the side pockets for valuables. Fortunately for us, we had our money and passports on us. My complaints at the desk went in one ear and out the other.

Perfect home base if you are running the Azores Whalers Great Route trail race. The location is unbeatable, the staff so friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean. Breakfast is great, everything you need. The rooms are minimalist, but just what you need to rest and recover for more adventures in the Azores. Will stay here again! Ocean view rooms are worth it to wake up to Pico every morning and see the beautiful harbor at night.

You can't beat the location- just a few steps from the harbour where all the yachts are moored. The rooms may be a little dated, but it is very clean and comfortable. We even had a small balcony overlooking the harbour, with a couple of chairs. Breakfast was filling and had good variety. The neighbourhood is quiet but seemed safe, even at night.

Very poor hotel. Strong humidity without ventilation. The fan is the room was not working. Staff unprofessional, useless. The breakfast room was small overloaded the morning. Room not clean, poor mattress, very hot during the night having just a small window to ventilate the room. I think they stopped to invest in this hotel 20 years ago. Run away from this hotel.

What, at the end of the day, do you need in accommodation? This old fashioned but comfortable hotel has lots of character and a great location in Horta. Breakfast was simple and perfectly adequate. Staff friendly. No air con, but fan in the room. Clean and comfy. No complaints here.

we've stayed here with a group for few days - and while the place is located not bad, there are more cons than pros. pros are, a FEW of the rooms are spacious, and FEW rooms are quiet cons are: the place just CRIES FOR RENOVATION! the bathroom was DIRTY, the breakfast is poor (and btw, out of few breakfasts less than half had eggs, the rest were just bread + meat + cheese). The coffee is a POISON! some of the towels were DIRTY! All in all, the best advice is to go elsewhere.

This hotel is perfect for a one night stopover in Horta. It is centrally located as you can walk to most anywhere in town. We were fortunate to get a room overlooking the harbor which was great. The room is very basic with no a/c which can be a problem only because the noise from the street is quite loud with the window open, although traffic is light later at night. The room was very clean and the wifi worked well. If you are planning on seeing the city and not spending much time in your room, what more do you need besides a clean shower, bed and a great view. They did have a simple breakfast included as well.

The hotel is very basic and quite old, so it should be cheaper. You only get towels, but no cosmetic products. There is also no fridge in the rooms. In our case we didn´t even get breakfast because we left early in the morning before it was served. The reception is 24 hours. The hotel is clean and quiet.
