We initially booked a standard studio apartment via an online holiday package - we were aware that some rooms were "sea view" but this wasn't an option when booking and we were initially allocated a side view room overlooking the adjacent street. We asked about upgrading to a sea view room when we checked in late in the evening but the man on the desk suggested we ask the desk team the following morning, (which we did). The space, decoration and facilities of the standard studio room were very, very good despite the balcony overlooking the side street and we would still have had a good holiday had we stayed in that room but fortunately for us an upgrade to a sea view room was available the next day for the remainder of our holiday and it was absolutely fantastic, great balcony with sea views overlooking the promenade, spacious room with ample facilities, very clean and cleaned regularly throughout our stay. Albeit the pool & bar on the roof terrace at the hotel were not open we still used the sun beds up there on a few occasions as it was very convenient to call back at the room if you'd forgotten anything. Centrally located and within easy reach of plenty of shops & restaurants (as well as the beach) but also very quiet and we were not disturbed during the night other than the crashing of the waves on the beach! Fantastic location and very polite & helpful staff working at Algar who really do everything they can to ensure you enjoy your holiday, we enjoyed our time there so much we looked to book again as soon as we got home (unfortunately no availability for our other holiday periods this year). We will definitely return to Algar Apartments the next time we holiday in Portugal.

Excellent well equipped apartment. V spacious & immaculate. Cleaned every day if you want. Good shower/hand rails. Security good as passes for lift & main entrance after midnight. Not sure how it goes if you arrive after midnight. So I would check that. Drop off by shuttle bus is a 7 min walk away at The Hotel Holiday Inn as there is a promenade walkway down the avenue but cars can get in. The hotel apartment is near the end of the walkway before you turn the corner. Beds & bedding extremely comfortable. Full cooker, fridge, microwave, kettle, coffee maker & plenty pans, utensils, glasses etc. Good supermarket on doorstep & Lidl 10 mins. Plenty of places to eat for all tastes & budgets. Soo inexpensive to self cater & €1 for a coffee in the wee places nearby. Not very commercial so if it’s a quiet break with stunning beach on the doorstep you want yes! If you want to party no! There’s a wee choo choo tour bus just nearby & worth €4 to get an idea of the surrounding area. Reception can organise trips & they are also very helpful Thank you for a wonderful stay Algar.

Great location if you want a quiet relaxing holiday, plenty of restaurants and shops and a lovely beach. Hotel was nice, friendly helpful staff and can't fault the cleanliness. Absolutely spotless, housekeeping come to do room daily,supply clean towels and top up toilet rolls and are always cleaning in and around hotel,they work very hard. Swimming pool out of use though and told it will probably not be in use again,where is the gym?? Both advertised as facilities but not available so that needs updating. Also no sign of 24 hour reception as we checked out at 5 am and there wasn't a soul about. All in all good value for money and if all you want is basic,clean and comfortable then this hotel ticks the boxes

Very disappointed as the rooftop pool which is illustrated and featured on all publicity for this hotel has been closed for two years.We went to the rooftop on our first morning to find it covered up and also the bar was closed There was a sign saying the pool was available from April to October !
I asked at Reception when the pool would be available(we booked a two week stay)and was told it had been closed for two years due to a water shortage and there were no plans to reopen it.
I find this hard to believe as other hotels in the area do have functioning pools, one of which is clearly visible from the Algar rooftop area.
Disappointing to say the least and sharp practice,misleading,in my opinion to show the pool as a feature ,and even illustrate it on the card signed by the manager giving details of your stay.
The apartment itself was fine.Comfortable beds,plenty of room,good size bathroom with shower and bath.And a roomy balcony overlooking the pleasant seafront with great views.
Staff,especially Miguel at the desk were pleasant and the TV,which went blank a couple of times,was promptly attended to by a technician called in when hotel staff were unable to fix it.
To avoid further complaints or even actions by disappointed and disgruntled guests the Algar needs to immediately reinstate the rooftop pool or delete any mention or illustration of it from all publicity including that put out by operators such as Love Holidays through whom booked our stay on the strength of there being a rooftop pool available to us.

This review relates to the restaurant at the algar apartments . It is in a lovely setting and very tempting but that’s where it ends . Do not be fooled ! The service is atrocious. The waiting staff do not understand your orders even though they have an English menu . The wine list is extremely difficult to get hold off and the charges per glass of wine are extortionate in comparison to all other restaurants. The food was ok but chips had to be sent back as only half cooked. The waiting staff they did speak English was surly and the whole experience was dreadful . Never again and certainly no tip for service . Such a shame as the setting was perfect .

Just spent the last 6days here. Upgraded on arrival to a room with sea view which was 100% worth it. Woke up every morning and had breakfast looking out over the sea then in the evenings had a fabulous view of the sunset. Nice apartment with everything we needed. 100% recommended. Town is quiet at this time of year with only a handful of restaurants open for dinner but still enough choice. Beach is right opposite the hotel and lovely and quiet. Perfect location for a relaxing getaway.

Arrived late at night to a friendly helpful receptionist. The room/studio apartment was a good size with a small kitchenette which was more than enough for our week's break. We were located to the side of the building so no sea view (would not hesitate to stay here again but would pay extra for a sea front room) and only a small balcony but this didnt spoil the visit at all. The rooftop pool was not functioning but the roof terrace had amazing views and was great for lying in the sun without getting sand in your shoes ! Could stay up there all day! The beach was literally a stones throw away across the road and plenty of restaurants and bars along the promenade. The staff were all very helpful and friendly and really cannot fault this hotel at all.

We were welcomed by Claudia(lovely eyes) and given room 105 on the 1st floor. Apartment had everything one would need for self catering and was very spacious. Our big balcony looked onto the promenade and the beach. The apartments are in an ideal location and Elsa and another lady did the housekeeping every morning. Janet and Miguel are the other two people on reception and we found Miguel to be a friendly and witty chap. We chatted with him most days and we met him one day in the town walking his 16 year old dog. Keep up the good work you three and we'll done to all involved in this perfect apartment block. The reason for not giving 5/5 is that the swimming pool on the roof should be removed from the advertising as it is a bit misleading due to it being out of use.

Myself, and my teenage son visited the Apartments Algor in August this year. The location is fantastic, directly opposite the beautiful beach. Having visited Armaceo De Pera many times, we knew exactly where we wanted to be.
The room was cleaned every day, and the amenities, including the pool area were kept immaculate.
The biggest attraction however are the staff. Very friendly and helpful. On the last day, our transfer didn't arrive to take us to the airport and the lady on reception couldn't have been more helpful - she sourced alternative transport and we were on our way in no time. There is also a jolly gentleman who manned the desk, mainly of an evening, who was also very lovely, chatty and friendly.
We will definitely return - well done to the whole Team.

Our third visit .Hotel is spotless throughout. The apartment has everything you need for a home from home stay ,the only thing missing is a washing machine or on site laundry. Perfect location bars restaurant s a stones throw away
