Cerro da Marina Hotel is celebrated for its traditional charm and relaxing atmosphere, a sentiment echoed by many guests. Reviewers are charmed by the friendly staff and the hotel's spotless cleanliness, from the well-maintained rooms to the pristine pool area.
While the location is praised for its tranquility and proximity to the beach, some travelers caution about the additional charges for amenities like transportation. Although the pool and generous breakfast receive high marks, a few guests miss having kettles in their rooms.

Detailed Reviews
I'm well travelled so have good experience about cost v expectation.
Clean hotel, good breakfast, dark room, toiletries provided with hairdryer plus fridge.
Quite a steep walk from marina back up to hotel, certainly not suitable for young kids or elderly.
4nts in march booked well in advance cost us £275 B&B for 2 rooms for 4nts. Therefore excellent value. We did a trip each of our 3 days booked in advance & got a taxi to a beach side restaurant one evening for 10 euros each way (15min drive).
My only negative is mainly due to me being a light sleeper. 1 night the room above me snuck in a dog & the claws tapping on the floor kept waking me. Sunday morning I got woken up to someone playing rock n roll music. I do sleep light but I do think the hotels acoustic isn't great. I'd predict in high season it could be quite noisy for some people.
The coast line is absolutely stunning & absolutely recommended visiting.
Weve seen beaches, caves, sunset, dolphins, villages & had 21-25 degrees of sunshine mid march. Absolutely perfect for a sneaky long weekend just as covid 19 causes chaos.

We stayed at the Cerro Da Marina hotel at the start of August as we flew across for a friends Wedding during the week.
The hotel was everything that we could have wished for.
Our room ideal for what we needed with Aircon and cleaned every day. The pool area in the hotel is great, there were never concerns over sunbeds and the pool itself was always clean and perfect for cooling down or swimming in during the day. The hotel also has an outdoor Jacuzzi which was popular during our stay.
The honesty bar works really well in the hotel, grabbing what you need during the day/night and marking it down before paying at the end of the trip. Breakfast service was excellent and the food was great too. Same for dinner we liked the idea of having to book our meal (set course menu) daily rather than a buffet which you tend to see in a lot of hotels, the food like breakfast was very good.
Yes the location is on a hill, however if walking was a problem there are plenty of taxis available either through Uber or local taxi ranks.
The staff were very considerate with us during the week particularly on the day of the wedding which we were very thankful for. Would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to return one day.

Got back yesterday after staying here for a relaxing week on half board with my husband and adult son. The location of the hotel is on a hill and you have to walk down to the resort which can take anything from 15 to 30 mins depending on which route you take as there are no buses up to the hotel, taxis from the resort cost anything from 6.80 euro to 9 euros. The hotel itself is nice, the rooms are of a decent size with balconies and terraces and are cleaned daily. It also has a good sized pool with plenty of sunbeds , jacuzzi and shady areas and is quiet relaxed and there is no need to get up early to reserve a sunbed. The breakfast is buffet style with a good choice of fresh fruit, yogurt, pastries, hot food etc. They have a honesty bar where you help yourself to snacks during the day and you enter in the book what you have had and pay later, the prices of the sandwiches and snacks are reasonable and we did this every day. The evening meals are good with two speciality meals on offer but if you don't fancy them you can order a fish or meat dish also. You can hire pool towels for 6 euro each towel per week, a safe in the room is 15 euros per week. One thing I will mention is that if you arrive at the hotel after reception closed which it does early evening you have to use the phone outside and the no to ring is displayed by the phone and then they give a code for a safe with your card keys in it which is also located by the phone. All the staff that work here are all very friendly and helpful, in fact much more helpful than the TUI rep who referred you to them if you wanted any local information such as how to get from the hotel to the resort and where bus station is etc, would we stay at this hotel again, most definitely if we were to stay in Albuferia again

If you are looking for a quiet, small and friendly hotel in the Albufeira area I would recommend this one. The staff are very friendly, helpful and welcoming. The building is spotless with towels changed daily.Breakfast includes a fantastic range of fresh fruit, cheeses, cold meats and a selection of bread rolls, Danish pastries and doughnuts. Hot scrambled eggs, beans, bacon and sausages are available. There are always sun beds available around the pool area so you don’t have to be up early to get one! The hotel is situated on a hill but it is only a short walk(15 minutes) to the marina where there are boat trips or a wide range of restaurants with entertainment in the evening. The old town is about a 15 minute walk in the other direction. If tired, taxis or tuk-tuks are very reasonable!

If you want a friendly, very clean and peaceful / relaxing place to stay, then this is for you. Away from the hubbub of the town, this small and friendly hotel is a nice quiet place to relax all day in the sun before heading down to the town in the evening, or between trips out and about.
Breakfast is a nice spread (I loved the freshly baked rolls and pastries) considering the size of the hotel and it does also offer a 3-course dinner on a pre-booked basis if you're not half-board (book before 2pm on the day to eat).
We ate dinner in the restaurants in town as we like to vary the food and location, but that's just us.
There is an honesty bar which was easy to use. You also have the minibar fridge in the room. There's also a nice lounge area, pool table and a book cupboard to swap books while you're there.
The hotel is very clean and the staff are all very friendly. I emailed the hotel before travelling from the UK and the response was efficient and friendly.
The bed was very comfortable and huge! The rooms had eveything we needed, but do remember this hotel has a 'traditional' feel in terms of decor, so don't go expecting modern chic furniture, think rustic / traditional!
The room aircon worked well and the rainfall shower was as powerful as you like.
If you have a very early morning check-out, the hotel provides a breakfast tray with kettle etc for an early continental bite, which is a nice touch.
If you have a pickup later in the day, you have to check out by 12pm and the hotel is fully booked in peak season, so you have to use the shower in the toilet area near the pool / breakfast area. For a quick freshen-up before leaving later in the day, its fine and the hotel happily give you clean towels for this when needed.
Pool towels can be hired for 6 Euros each for the week and then changed every 2 days (or take your own). Safe keys re also on a hire basis, 15 euros for the week.
Although the hotel is within a 15 minute walk from the 'old' town, the walk back up is a bit of a hilly trek if you're less mobile or on the very humid nights. Ubers are super-cheap here (4.50 euros for a small car for 2 of us) and a lot easier on the legs, so ensure you download the Uber app before going if you don't already have it as that's so easy and cheap to use.
We didn't use the spa, but the treatments on offer looked nice and we saw a number of people use it. It's in a separate building by the pool and you book at reception.
The pool isn't heated and can feel a bit chilly compared to the blazing sun, so the best thing to do is just wade in and you quickly find its a welcome relief to cool off. Once you're in, you'll find the water is fine and its the heat of the day that makes it feel chillier than it really is when you first get in.
The pool isn't deep, so it's not for energetic lane swimmers, but as a nice quiet pool in which to do a gentle bit of swimming or just chill and talk to fellow guests, its great.
There's also a jacuzzi which was nice to sit in and like a bath as it was warm.

This is a tough one as there is nothing basically wrong with Cerro da Marina but it could be so much better. There are rules and additional charges for lots of items which niggle. A kettle and tea and coffee making facilities in the room would be handy and appreciated as would fresh drinking water each day. Having to pay to use the pool table seemed harsh too and whilst the honesty bar is handy having someone serve you at busy times makes you feel as if you are on holiday!
It is also worth mentioning that although the hotel is close to the old town area of Albufiera the walk back is almost all uphill so bear this in mind if you are not that fit!
If you go there with children be warned that balls and rubber rings are not allowed in the very clean and inviting swimming pool which may be tough if you are teaching your kids to swim……
On a positive note the rooms are big and well cleaned and the breakfast buffet is generous although completely self service including laying the tables and making coffee and tea. Basically you just don’t get served.
We never sampled the evening meals as you had to decide if you wanted one by 2pm and the choice was limited.
I hope this is helpful and gives an accurate picture. It may suit many and remains reasonably priced but just lacked warmth and hospitality.

Response from Paulo Guerreiro, Owner at Cerro da Marina Hotel
Responded 8 Mar 2024
Thank you for your comment But from what I saw, you are a frequent user of comments on Tripadvisor as you have many comments and complaints in your history, but unfortunately you did not see the hotel you booked well, nor did you see the comments on Tripadvisor either before or after booking, nor did you see it in your confirmation of your reservation made through TUI and what your stay at the hotel included. I'll explain, you booked a 3-star hotel with breakfast (you didn't book an all-inclusive hotel) and adults only (we don't accept children) only over 18 years old but you didn't see it on your TUi confirmation or at the main hotel door which has a huge amount of information saying that it is adults only + 18 and that we only accept adults aged 18 and over but it is so easy to criticize and comment and post information that does not correspond to reality. Our hotel has a very high standard on Tripadvisor, as well as on Tui and Booking.com and other sites, a very high score for a 3-star hotel. In recent years it has been considered one of the best hotels based on customer comments by TUI. You must have seen the award certificates that we win every year at the entrance to the hotel. Regarding your complaints, as a courtesy we only put 1 bottle of water per person at check in as a courtesy - we don't have to. The kettle and facilities for making tea or coffee are normally only supplied in apartments, but in our hotel and for an extra cost of €2 per day we can place a kettle and cups in the room. Regarding snooker, it also has a normal cost, like most bars, I've been to England several times and all the bars I went to charged for the pool table or snooker, why does the hotel have to be free?? It failed to mention that the safe and pool towels also have an extra cost and is mentioned in your booking confirmation that it is not included. When we make the prices we do not include the extras as not all guests use them. Of course with these extras included the price was not the reasonable price they paid, but it is not right for guests who do not use them to be paying for these services. Breakfast is a self service buffet which is normal practice. If you want waiter service at breakfast, read the hotel information first before you book. Regarding the bar. There are never peak hours and it is a self-service bar where you can get food or drinks from cafes or teas for 24 hours and indicate it in the book and we will put it on the bill. What distinguishes us from other hotels is the honesty that we still have with our guests where you don't see anywhere else .There are many reviews on Tripadvisor commenting on this bar service and they love it because they trust people. Of course we could have staff to serve them but it wouldn't be the same The warning we have by the pool that inflatables or mattresses and ball games are not allowed (even for adults), is to prevent guests around the pool from being disturbed by balls and mattresses occupying the pool and they can fully enjoy the pool to swim and cool off. Regarding dinners, yes, you have to book by 2 pm, except customers arriving that day can book when they arrive, as everything is freshly made and we don't want to waste food. The comment about lack of hospitality is not true as we tried several times to talk to you, but we found it almost impossible to have a conversation with you. You were very unfriendly. It remains to be said that you had a better room than you booked. The standard rooms with TUI are a pool or garden view on the ground floor, but you had a room on the first floor with a sea view, one of the best in the hotel. Next time you should book a 5 star hotel so you always have someone to serve you - at a different price of course. It was a pleasure meeting you, I wish you all the best. Director

This hotel is small but has a lovely pool, plenty of loungers, a jacuzzi and a small spa treatment area. It also has a very small gym for those who may be interested, with a rowing machine, bike and a cross trainer but no treadmill. The hotel is situated towards the top of steep hills in all directions so may be less suitable for the disabled however it is only about 700m down into the old town & beach, which are both very clean and lovely, and in the other direction coming out of the hotel the marina is probably about a similar distance downhill. The marina has a range of cafes and restaurants and offers trips from here to see caves, dolphins, the coastline and other activities including scuba diving and parasailing, for example. Although we didn’t use them, taxis and Tuk-tuks were available, cheaply I believe, should you have trouble waking or not fancy the uphill walk back. Car hire from the hotel compared very favourably to the bigger international brands and we had no complaints whatsoever. The hotel was exceptionally clean, quiet and the beds very very comfortable. The hotel staff were always courteous, friendly and very helpful. We loved our stay here, would come again and would highly recommend this lovely place to anyone. Thank you Hotel Cerro da Marina for a lovely experience.

Sadly we found the Tui description of this hotel did not reflect what we found. It is, on a hillside, and some roads are really steep, also it is in an urban area surrounded by large villas, not a countryside setting.
Our room was large and had good storage, but the balcony was unusable if the aircon was on as it vented hot air onto the seating area. Overall it was rather old fashioned.
The pool area was very well maintained and generally it was was easy to get a sun bed.
Buffet breakfast had all the usual things but food was served by 2 staff. Dinner menu was on a weekly turn around so if staying for 2 weeks you got a repeat, of not very good food,! more canteen than restaurant and the very friendly staff were not appropriately trained, no-one had any idea about the wines being offered with dinner.
Honesty bar worked OK In the day for drinks, but the food on offer looked a bit sad by lunch time. Once dinner service completed the place became empty. Bar still open but drinks on optics and expensive, and snippy notices about ice only to be used for drinks purchased in the hotel were a bit annoying, Although on half board we ate many times in local restaurants, despite the walk to the town and the extra costs.
In the past we have found the small and friendly Tui hotels generally very good but this one has just to go down as a bit of a mistake for us.
The Spa which I used twice was excellent due to Christina who was very professional.

Dear Madam Many thanks for your reviews , but for sure you did not see what you booked in the brochure of TUi, and now you are making a complaint on tripadvisor. The website referes to the hotel situated on a hillside. Please find below the description on tui website and brochure : Swanky and intimate, with a countryside setting, the Cerro da Marina is the ideal adult getaway. The hillside setting of this hotel gives you impressive views of the countryside, the marina and the ocean. It’s quiet, but you’re not cut off – the beach is about a 15-minute stroll away, while the town’s main square is a bit further. all the information in Tui and the brochure are correct and the photos are all correct We are a small hotel with 23 rooms as we are on the brochure small and friendly. It is normal that the guests go out for a walk in to the town after dinner. Hope to see you in the future. Kind regards Paulo Guerreiro - Hotel director

Huge thanks to Paolo and his whole amazing team, who keep the hotel spotlessly clean 24 hours a day. From clean rooms, communal areas, pool and surrounding areas to the gorgeous breakfast on offer each day. (If you have a mind too, you can actually have a different breakfast everyday for 14 days like I did)
The honesty bar says volumes about this hotel, they trust their guests and don’t feel the need to watch you 24 hours a day. The fully stocked bar has everything you need, including a chiller cabinet with delicious rolls, pastries, salad and fruit pots and a very posh coffee machine. Make your choice, write your room number and items in the books, enjoy. Settle your bill on leaving.
I cannot fault anything with this hotel, it was the perfect holiday after waiting 3 years to go. We will definitely be going back.
The hotel is situated approx 15 mins walk to the marina and 20 mins to the old town where you will find an abundance of great restaurants, we didn’t have a bad meal anywhere and everyone is so friendly.
Two things I wouldn’t bother with is visiting the new town, what a disappointment, defo for the younger generation. also the open top bus tour, the worst one we have ever been on and for 22 euros each, apart from a couple of distinctive roundabouts there was nothing else to see.
You will have a fabulous time with Paola and his team.
Thank you to everyone x
The honesty bar says volumes about this hotel, they trust their guests and don’t feel the need to watch you 24 hours a day. The fully stocked bar has everything you need, including a chiller cabinet with delicious rolls, pastries, salad and fruit pots and a very posh coffee machine. Make your choice, write your room number and items in the books, enjoy. Settle your bill on leaving.
I cannot fault anything with this hotel, it was the perfect holiday after waiting 3 years to go. We will definitely be going back.

Our many visits to this expertly run small Hotel, have always been delightful. The location on the hillside away from the hustle and bustle of Albufeira centre, provides peace and a relaxed atmosphere. The rooms are modern and comfortable with many facilities included. The grounds, Pool and Gardens are well maintained. Centre of town and beaches are a 10 minute stroll. The Hotel Staff and Management are very friendly and helpful. Looking forward to our next visit as my planned visits in October and December 2020 were cancelled due to Covid 19 travel restrictions from UK.
