It rocks in more ways than one because it is situated on the rocky sandstone cliffs of the Algarve. Four of us rented two one bedroom apartments in the Prestige for a month. They were spotless, well equipped with anything one needed in the kitchen, lots of closets for our clothing, spacious bathroom and a good sized balcony where we could dry laundry and relax at the other end when eating, playing games, reading, etc. We would have appreciated some chaise lounges, perhaps folding ones.
I have never slept in such a comfortable bed. What a treat it was to fall asleep in clean white sheets of high quality with a cozy duvet on top! And...the apartments were so quiet.
The staff couldn’t do enough for us. We were only at the elegant cafeteria a few times and had the best treatment. Our first night, being exhausted from a long flight, we wandered there and shared a jug of Sangria and various tapas. Our waitress, Luba, took delight in our enjoyment of the food. Another time she served us afternoon tea and special cakes while we relaxed on some sofas. And our final meal there, they had to call in extra help because many people showed up. Our waiter And Mr. Marcos hurried around to deliver our food and were so attentive to make sure that we had the right dishes. They made us feel special.
We used the minimart many times because we usually cooked our own meals and it was well supplied with fruit and vegetables all freshly grown in Portugal. Meat had to be bought elsewhere but I believe that they are in the process of opening a bigger shop where they will have some other products. Again, they were kind and didn’t mind if we had to bring something back.
Loved the patience of the people at reception and, I’m sure, that we tried their patience at times. Two younger men, Danny, and other one with last name de Silva, had me in stitches often with their humorous answers to our questions.
The maintenance staff and the gardeners were so friendly. This was a well run place. Even at the end, when the Corona virus was threatening the world and things at the complex needed to be shut down we still felt welcomed. I remember our last day when the housekeepers were in the room, I motioned that I wish that I could hug them. One woman put her arms around herself and I did similar and then she pretended that she was crying.
I hope that I will be able to return there many more times. My second time at Alfagar. Let’s pray that our world and our economy will survive to allow me to do this.

We stayed for 5 nights with our two kids (aged 5 and 8) after staying here in August 2019 and loving it. Overall, the apart hotel is clean and has great amenities. The apartments are spacious and the pools, although freezing cold, are large and in the prestige areas are nowhere near as busy as the other pool areas in the complex. We were unsure what impact COVID would have our on stay. Face masks were mandatory in the communal areas such as foyers and lifts which was fine. One local restaurant was completely closed leaving a few options for lunch/dinner.

The biggest impact was on service and facilities at the prestige block. Reception there was closed so all guests had to check in at the main reception in the other block. The queues were big and slow to speak to anyone on reception. When I checked in the guy on reception said he’d “upgraded us” but when we got to our apartment it was as booked and the same as we’d had last year. By the pools at the prestige area the cafeteria was completely closed meaning no drinks or ice creams near the pool area. That’s a shame as if you wanted anything you’d have to go to the other pool areas. Our air con wasn’t working on arrival and despite 5 phone calls and 2 trips to main reception, nobody cane to fix it. We had to complain yet again at at 6pm somebody turned up. Overall, I’d say that the service wasn’t as good this year and we won’t be coming for a third time. Great apartments for families but the management need to up their game when still charging full price when only offering half the service.

Mu husband, two kids (10 & almost 6) & I stayed at the Alfagar II Aparthotel for 10 days the end of August, 2022. We were so impressed with the whole place from start to finish, we had a lovely pool view 1 bed apartment, okay the orange & brown tiles were a bit eek but otherwise it was perfect. We had a double bed in our room (two single beds pushed together so it was very roomy) & the kids slept on the sofa bed in the living room. What really suited us was the sliding door between our bedroom & the living room, we have two nervous sleepers & as it was a new environment there were extra nerves so the sliding doors suited us perfectly because it felt like we were all in the same room 😁. The whole apartment was spotless bins emptied every day & the apartment was cleaned every second day, bedding changed every third day & they always arranged all of the kids teddies so sweetly om the sofa bed afterwards ❤️ The kitchen was really well equipped & the balcony was a lot bigger than we expected, it fitted a table, 4 chairs & 2 loungers with loads of space to spare. The complex also had laundry facilities (which were a little hard to find, more signs needed at the steps!) & we had a drying hanger to hang the clothes out on the balcony. We paid for B&B & breakfast was from 8.30am to 10.30am every day, and I can honestly say it was the nicest breakfast buffet we had ever come across, soooo much choice & everything was delicious. The pool area was AMAZING!!! 😍 The kids pool was ideal for my kids, there were two big slides, perfect for our 10 year old & smaller slides for my 6 year old. The pools were clean & the pool staff, (Animaco I think they were called), were so nice & friendly & great with all of the kids. There's a bar just beside the pool area & they did good, which was really nice & I have to say out of all of the staff they were the nicest, particularly the girl who served us every day. Prices weren't as cheap as we expected but I guess prices are gone up everywhere. The complex is huge, we walked to the nearby beach twice which is fabulous. There's a small shop & an ATM in the complex also. We also came across a gorgeous Playground for the kids. I only have two negatives to say about this place which are really minor, no.1 The wifi is really bad in the apartments, but it's better when you're in the reception area & by the pool. No. 2, the laundry area needs to be signposted a bit better, there are two signs & then nothing so we were walking around like headless chickens for a while til we were lucky enough to find it.

Just back from 5 nights at the Alfagar Aparthotel. We stayed with our 2 children 5yrs and 1yr old.

Our apartment was modern and had everything we needed. The bedroom was large with a/c and the resort provided us with a travel cot free of charge. The pull out sofa bed in the living area was large (two single beds effectively) and the balcony was huge and connected both rooms. Our apartment was plenty big enough for 4 of us and all our luggage that travelling with children entail.

The resort is top class. Plenty of pools for all ages. We spent the majority of our time by the kids pool as that is all they wanted with the numerous water slides etc. Plenty of other pools if you wanted a more low key day. No matter what part of the resort we were in it was spotlessly clean. There were also plenty of soccer courts, tennis areas etc and lots of playgrounds dotted around the place. The kids were always entertained. There is also a kids club but we did not utilise it.

The staff from pool attendants, to reception to the numerous cleaners were all very friendly and polite.

Two points of note.. the pool bar is expensive for what you get, but then again I suppose most pool bars are. The mini market on site is also expensive and there is a more reasonably priced Spar shop 200 meters to the right when you come out of the resort.

The beach has access from the resort but is not suitable for buggies. We walked along the road which took about 10-15mins and was well worth the visit.

The food in the resort is fine. We found a nice restaurant, Portobello, which is only 5 mins walk from the resort in the direction of Albuferia. We chose to eat here twice as we found it better for the kids and adults and was very reasonably priced.

We also used Uber to visit Vilamoura and Albufeira and was far cheaper than hotel transfer. Of note is that public transport in Portugal be it taxi or Uber will not provide child seats and they will have to sit with adults. Taxis are much the same price as Uber.

All in all an excellent resort, would we stay again.. absolutely.

Room Tip: The Spar shop 200mtrs to the right of resort has a better selection than the resorts mini market.

We stayed here as a family in February half-term. We chose a 2 bedroom apartment with a seaview and it turned out to be a good choice as there was lots of room and the balcony was huge. The balcony had 2 sunbeds and a table with 6 chairs. Our apartment was on the top floor (room 522) and its probably one of the best we have stayed in. The hotel itself was was very clean and the pools were open (including a heated covered pool) The water was a bit too cold to enjoy but pool area was large and there was plenty of sunbeds available probably due to the time of the year. The aparthotel is part of a complex alongside Alfagar village. There are many facilities on site including a gym,spa facilities, tennis courts and a small football pitch. We only ate once on site as we preferred to eat out or have breakfast in the apartment. There are a couple of small supermarkets close by which sell everything you need. There is direct access to a small quiet beach which is a 10 minute walk down many steps so not so good if you have difficulty with this. The strip of Albufeira is a 15 min walk or a 5 euro taxi ride. This is a great place for families to enjoy the beautiful coast of the Algarve.

Where can I start? This place has no Service at all. People from reception desk is extremely impolite and rude. Calling the reception desk from your bedroom is a mission impossible since nobody ever answers.
The bedroom phone is broken and roughly glued with duct tape.
The cleaning of the bedroom is appalling ! It only happens sometimes very rarely and you can hardly see it as the only thing they do is making the beds (without changing the sheets or the bathroom towels ). The bedroom stays exactly as you left it. Actually, when I checked in I was throwing away trash from the previous guests. Including melted icecream found in the middle of the couch. Yes , because You rent an apartment for 4 people and you get one bedroom and a sofa bed. But you pay 2200 euros per week and you need to make your own bed. Not even when you ask them to do it.
Honestly for the price you pay I was expecting to get some service, clean bedrooms and at least kind and polite staff.
I will never come back and definitely won’t recommend it to anyone I would be ashamed to show to my friends that this is how Portugal treats it’s guests.
There are so many amazing hotels in Portugal Alfagar is NOT one of them - This is not a good experience at all .

The worst hospitality staff I have come across by far. From the front desk, to the bar, to the restaurant staff, they all seem to detest their jobs. Slow, rude, non talkative, non friendly. Just not welcoming in any way! The hotel does its best to keep you on site spending and if you look to head out do not use their transport options, order a taxi!!

- for a Trip to zoomarine they wanted sixty euros return just on the transport for 2 adults 2 children, the fare in the taxi was €17 each way (€26 less than the hotel) . They will try to talk you out of ordering a taxi, try tell you "ah but the taxi work from the meter, it can be expensive" this hotel try tp exploit tourists! Even when we requested taxis to old town, they did everything to try get is to use their transfers (which we did first night only to be dropped away from the main part of old toen because only taxis can go that way) (hotel transfer 10 euro, taxi is €8 but taxi cab drop you directly in the center)

- Staying here as 2 adults and 2 kids, we were going through towels as you do, and trying to get more towels was a struggle "today is not your cleaning day". Imagine staying somewhere and asking for more towels and they try to tell you no!! We had to demand more towels, it is very odd!!

- The aircon in the room did not work, despite calling numerous times it was never fixed or nobody even came to look at it.

My advice to anyone considering staying here is don't. Every interaction with any staff member will leave you scratching your head and making you feel like you have done something wrong or you are simply not welcome. AVOID! This is across all the alfagar hotels as they all share the same amenities.

We are a family in out 30s with young children, who are well travelled and this experience was awful!!

We stayed here from 9th June to 18th.
Check in is quick and easy, although you cannot check in before 4pm (quite an odd policy) the hotel is part of a complex, we stayed in the village.
We spend most of our time by the pools with the water slides which the children loved, not much in the way of entertainment (possibly due to Covid) although there was a kids club but you had to pay €10 per child, per morning or afternoon.
The rooms are big and spacious, maids came everyday and cleaned the room, fresh towels etc.
The food was the highlight of this place, it was fabulous and the chef hand cooks all the food (remarkable) plenty of choice and different every night.
We found the whole experience lacking entertainment, not much to do for children and once you’d been to the old town once there was nothing worth seeing again.
Overall I have gave this place 4/5 but this is largely due to the staff who are helpful and friendly and the food.
Had a pleasant stay but would not return

So we arrived at approx 14:00 with our 2 young children 5 cases a pushchair and other bags...reception staff just watched us struggle in. At check in we were told our room would not be available till 16:00, and that we should come back at 15:00 to see what they can do. We finally got our room and someone to drive our bags to it at 15:30. This wasnt easy with 2 young children who had started their day of travelling at 4am that morning. We decided to go down to the pool bar and have lunch while we waited. Pizzas are not bad there but definitely overpriced. We did go a couple of times oit of convenience. We had a prestige one bedroom apartment. Everything was really clean and the room was nice and spacious with a fully equipped kitchen/diner. In 7 days our room was cleaned twice and towels changed 3 times. The cleaners were really pleasant but they literally clean for 5 mins and leave. The hotel and grounds are all immaculate and well kept, the swimming pools are cold (including the indoor) but you will soon warm up. I do use the gym when i go abroad and this hotel gym was a bit tired and not maintained well(i know most people dont really care) there is a supermarket on site but really not good, just go to lidl which is a short journey in a uber. As for taxis we only used uber as it is supercheap in comparison to other taxi services. The location is not bad and only 10 mins in a taxi from the main strip and restaraunts etc. The beach is to the rear of the complex but will require some walking which is pleasant however the steps going down to the beach with a baby was not easy. The old town is a lovely place to visit and the zoomarine is a must visit too. We had breakfast included which is pretty good to be honest, there is not a huge selection like some places iv seen but what they do have is pretty spot on and all fresh. As for the staff, looked like they were not happy to be there and as other reviewers have mentioned, asking them anything seems to irritate them? If you want to use your safe in the room it is 12 euros for the week. And you cannot use your room towels at the pool(pack accordingly). When leaving the hotel at 7am in the morning i called reception for help with baggage and i was told sorry we cannot help. I have traveled all around the world and never experienced this before? I would stay here again but just a few little let downs stop this place from being really great. Lots to do for kids and families

Pleasantly surprised with our prestige apartment. It had a massive balcony wrapping around the full apartment. Spotlessly clean with all the utensils needing for cooking (not that we did that) Rooms were made up every day apart from once while we stayed there, didn’t expect it but it was nice to come home to an immaculately made bed every day & fresh towels. Shop on site good plus there’s a spar within walking distance didn’t notice that much of a price difference between them for the things we were buying (water, soft drinks etc) We used the pool bar twice for lunch purely for convenience and the fact we couldn’t get out little one to leave the pool, it’s massively over priced!! But what we did have to eat was tasty so although a complete rip off we were fed & watered without having to walk into town. Didn’t encounter much staff as the aparthotel doesn’t have a reception, you just use your keycard to gain access into the building. Security guards go around the pools to check everyone has there hotel bands on, we were caught out twice not wearing them, the guy had a list of names and rooms numbers and he did check us up, they must get random people coming in and using the facilities. Make sure you take a printed hotel voucher as they do ask for this on check in, I only knew this by reading other reviews, people we being asked to email them at check in to then be printed off. Would come back nice family friendly place with clean and tidy gardens and play areas. We used Uber taxi’s while staying there to go into the old town & vilamoura, easy & cheap.

They are all part of the same complex and as a guest you can enjoy the facilities of all of the other parts (village etc). The main differences are the distances from the water park or the beach but it’s pretty negligible from our experience unless you have a serious condition that affects your mobility
