Aqua Pedra dos Bicos Design Beach Hotel boasts a prime location favored by guests for its easy access to The Strip, Old Town, and beach, along with various dining options. While opinions on noise and value are mixed, with some concerns about additional charges and room quality, the staff's professionalism and the hotel's cleanliness receive high marks.
The amenities, particularly the well-maintained pool and breakfast variety, are appreciated, although the pool area can feel cramped. Rooms are clean with admirable views, despite some lacking storage and having dated decor.

Detailed Reviews
Thought I should post something as the global situation has changed immeasurably since the last review.
Traveled with a friend, booked in December through an online agent. Had a bit of trouble with cards being accepted and paid in euros in the end. Not sure what the issue was but it was a great deal.
I contacted the hotel twice via email , initially to request a room with twin beds on a high floor which was acknowledged and again via email for descriptions of the covid restrictions. Good response both times from reception. I called the hotel a few days prior to travel for an update and got a call center which was able to assist.
Upon arrival, masks are required inside the hotel, obviously barring your room and it is enforced which we found reassuring. All facilities were available, pool, spa, bar etc but the roof terrace was locked which was unfortunate as would have been ideal to view the sunset.
The room was great, we ended up with a double instead of twin beds but they are huge beds so we barely noticed the other there. Acceptable shower pressure for the top floor, shampoo and shower gel in fixed full size bottles over the bath. Good quality too.
We had a superior room with side sea views and agree with past reviews there aren't really enough plug sockets near the main mirror. Plugs are under the bedside shelves for phone charging. We also found the kettle didn't work, although oddly coffee pods were available from request at reception but not actually in the room. Really loved the sheets, matress and pillows! We emptied the fridge on arrival so we could use it for our own items from the supermarket round the corner and there was no issue.
Location is great for the strip, we enjoyed the walk to the old town and got a tuk tuk back often from the top of the escalators. Prices ranged from 7€ to 10€°
Reception staff, probobly the best I've encountered and I holiday up to 3 times a year!
Breakfast was odd as the usual do a buffet and I imagine they are still finding their way. It did feel awkward, this could be resolved by providing a menu of items available. Cracking quality though! One concern was one morning there were actual seagulls taking food from the tables and begging for food. They were gone the next day thankfully.
Didn't try the spa.
Pool was adequate, definitely not heated but I'm fussy unless it's set to 25 degrees! Good to cool off and immaculately tended.
The actual resort was quiet from what we heard but this was my first visit, we had no trouble finding great food and if you were in a bar by eleven could generaly stay until 2am. Visited Villamoura in an uber and was just about as busy as I remember.
Check out was friendly and efficient, in all really did feel like a holiday despite the situation and wouldn't hesitate to go back!

Our second stay in Albufeira for 2 weeks. We like this area compared to old Albufeira because the strip offers so much and is busier , and easier to get around. The hotel has direct beach access, and surrounded by condos called Quinta Pedra dos Bicos . The reception for both accommodation is located in the hotel. You can either rent the apartments or the hotel rooms , either way you eat breakfast in same restaurant. We stayed in the hotel but asked to view the apartments, and were impressed by the size of apartments (same price as hotel rooms but sea view better in hotel).
The reviews reflect exactly our expectations...no surprises.
There is construction next to the complex but did not bother us.
Cleaning service was great, so was reception, and breakfast was excellent.
The restaurant is surrounded by glass so you feel outside while you eat. Also you can eat on the patio or simply finish your breakfast on the patio with a coffee.
Parking was directly in front of hotel and the street utilized by complex guests only.
Rooms are sized ok but balcony is too small. We chose a sea view room and glad we did because the front rooms face the apartments, and ours were overlooking a lush forest with views of ocean and Falésia.
Food for us meant breakfast in hotel and out to restaurants for evening meals. You will find about 20 different restaurants within 500 yards of the hotel. Our favourites were Ribeiro, Pauli’s, and the Casa Velma next to the Old House bar.
Happy hour was at the Old House (best sangria for 7 euros/jug) ,and Coyote bar right in front.
The Inter Marché grocery is 300 feet away so you can load up with all your needs and walk back to your room in 10 minutes.
We took time to go visit other resorts we had contemplated before booking the Aqua hotel, but the environment at our place was the best.

We stayed for a week 21st to 28th May and really enjoyed our time at this lovely hotel.
From the welcome we received at reception to the cleaners and breakfast/ pool bar staff was very nice and friendly. The room we had booked was the superior side seaview which is an east facing room with balcony which overlooked the pine woods next door and along the coast towards Queintera. The balcony got the morning sun which was nice to sit on with a coffee from the provided coffee machine. The room and en suite bathroom was spotless and cleaned every day.
We had bed and breakfast and so glad we did as buffet breakfasts are plentiful with lots of choice and served in the nice looking restaurant or patio between 7.30am and 10.30am so never crowded.
We had couple of lunches and a few drinks at the pool bar on days we were chilling at the pool which were just right and good value. We didn't eat there in the evening at all, there's no point and the choice looked quite boring as a set menu. There are so many good restaurants locally and its a short taxi ride to old town for some fab choices. My tip is don't bother about Half board, just pointless and limits you to the hotel when there is so much great choice in the area.
The pool was a bit cool at this time of year but great once you got moving. There were plenty of good quality sunbeds and everything was clean.
Short stroll from the back gate to the small local beach and short stroll to other beaches was nice. The Beach cafe was a fab lunch spot which we enjoyed a couple of time.
Locally some good bars and restaurants with good choice and some reasonable value menus. Enjoyed a few beers and wine especially when watching football in the local bars on the sunday. Old Town is a 30 minute walk or 5 minute taxi or Uber which cost about 5 Euros
Overall, a fab hotel in a good location. Loved our week. Thanks. 5 stars.

We stayed at the Aqua Pedra dos Bicos Hotel at the beginning of June’ 23 on a B& B basis.
We found the hotel modern, clean and in a good location The room was on the 3rd floor with a side view of the sea without any disturbing noise and was comfortable and cleaned when you required.
Breakfast had a good choice selection and was fresh and regularly stocked up.
The walk to the beach took approx. 10 mins down a wooden set of stairs of 100 steps. If you have mobility issues this maybe a bit challenging. There is a bar/restaurant that greets you upon arrival at the small beach bay, that serves a good selection of food and drink and has fantastic views of the sea, well worth a visit for a few cocktails. Further along the coast path about 5mins, you will find a handful of bars/restaurants all with great sea views and good food. You can get to the main strip if you desire up some steep roads from the beach, again about a 5 minute walk.
There are a number of local supermarkets and variety of shops, bars and restaurants all within 5-10 minutes walk from the hotel.
The walk to the old town takes about 45 minutes, where you will find a good selection of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. The evening becomes busy and lively with good fun entertainment. Taxi cost about €8 one way.
There is a bus stop a few minutes’ walk outside the hotel, if you want to go to Vilamoura it cost €7.50 per person each way and takes about 30 minutes. The return bus, stops running late afternoon so plan your day if you want to return by it.
Our only slight grumble was the price of the drinks in the hotel, they were a bit expensive compared to the local close by bars. If the hotel was a bit more competitive, we would have had more drinks before and after our nights out.
All in all, a good quality hotel and definitely recommend for a relaxing and enjoyable stay.

We stayed here for one week 9th to 16th June
Check In was friendly, informative and speedy and we were very satisfied with our room which was on the 3rd floor with a lovely sea view. Bed was big and comfortable, plenty of wardrobe space and hangers nice toiletries and immaculately clean.
Breakfast was pre booked but this was to ensure covid regs were met and to be fair we arrived at our allocated time and were always seated promptly. We did see queues later but I think that was possibly because some people were not coming at there allocated time and arriving towards the end of service. I can’t honestly fault the efforts of the waiting staff to keep everything clean and serve.
On our last day they set up a new one way system where you serve yourself and coffee machines which seemed to work better. I think this will help elevate some of the queues.
Pool area although quite small was still lovely and again to provide safety re covid they have taped off 20 sets of two around it but I think to be honest you wouldn’t want to be any closer and there are ample sun beds which can be used on the grass area around the pool which some people preferred to do anyway.
There is a gate tucked into the corner of the pool area which takes you through a small road and down some wooden steps to a beautiful little beach. The restaurant there called Beach Cafe is really nice! Great food and service and a nice change from around the pool.
There is a small bar poolside with a nice selection of lunch bits but we were dissapointed it wasn’t open in the evening despite the covid rules saying all bars could open till 10.30pm We like to come back and have a drink after our night out but again on our last day the rules changed and bars could stay open till 1pm so the Hotel May now be offering a bar service in the evening ?
There is a lounge inside the hotel which looks glamorous but it wasn’t used at all but this may have changed now
We were impressed at being able to get our fit to fly tests in the hotel they made it easy and it was only 20 euros each, that eased the stress of finding somewhere so was really helpful.
I think if I were to suggest improvements it would be a better size plate-for breakfast as they were very small (no problem though with having as much food as you wanted)
Get the evening entertainment running and some house keeping in the shower facilities by the pool, they were handy but lights notworking,no mirror and cobwebs over the doors and no where to hang your towel whilst showering.
On the whole clean, comfortable good location if you like to be in easy walking distance of the strip (not for us must be getting old) friendly staff and a lovely beach!

The staff are amazing and always happy to help. I give them 10/10.
The design title does not match all of the facilities. It’s a good hotel however it needs to separate itself from the apartments as it’s difficult to see the line between the two businesses operating from the same space.
The restaurant is only serving breakfast and if you like a varied hot option this is not for you. It’s the same basic choices every day. The coffee is from an old vendor machine. Whereas in the rooms you have nespresso so unsure why they can’t offer a drip coffee. It’s also not open for lunch or dinner. I can’t imagine it does the food advertised even if it were open.
The minibar was stocked on day 1 with 5 items but then never restocked. Difficult if you want water for the machines.
The beach is not private to the hotel but shared with anyone that knows it and other hotels. No exclusivity.
The pool is medium sized and not heated. The beds fill fast and this is where I question if the apartments are allowed to use it. No bar or places to buy drinks near the pool.
I think this hotel could be truly 4 star with a few tweaks it’s nearly there. I guess covid through it off it’s journey. Currently it’s offer is a room and breakfast and this is where I feel booking.com is allowing false advertising!! My advice call and check all facilities are open before booking as they do not partial refund.
The guests are a mixed bunch. Groups of young lads or elderly aged couples. I guess again it’s the advertising of adult only and design hotel that is confusing.

... Choose your room carefully. We had previously stayed in a side Seaview superior room. On this occasion we were given a roadside room. Initially no problem at all... Until the youngsters descended in the apartments across the road. Shouting, singing & partying into the early hours sometimes 4am. After 2 sleepless nights we asked to be moved. The hotel staff were very accommodating & moved us to a quieter room, after which we had wonderful peaceful nights.
Apart from that glitch everything was lovely. Very friendly staff, good choice at the breakfast buffet. Exceptionally clean in all areas. Rooms cleaned daily, fresh towels every day if required, pool towels provided (there is a €2.50 charge if you want to swap them during your stay), bed linen changed often, very handy fridge, tea coffee & nespresso coffee machine, free wifi & safe. We walked into the old town most days, it's obviously closer to the strip but not really our thing. We also walked to olhos d'agua & back one day. So a good location for us.
The usual towel on sunbeds was evident but not necessary as there are plenty of sunbeds stacked up for you to place where you like.
Adults only... Always a plus for us.
Apart from that glitch everything was lovely. Very friendly staff, good choice at the breakfast buffet. Exceptionally clean in all areas. We have just returned from a 7 night holiday at this lovely hotel. This was our first foreign trip post pandemic and we wanted to travel to a destination we knew well.
We booked this hotel a long way in advance and got a superb deal with a side sea view room on B&B. The hotel is spotlessly clean. In fact the cleaners were continually vacuuming and polishing. The rooms are a good size, they have a fridge and tea and coffee making facilities. They even supply pool towels in the room. Breakfast was abundant and served between 7.30 to 10.30 so great for lazy day starts. Covid protocols are evident in the restaurant with the usual sanitiser in place and the requirement to wear supplied plastic gloves at the buffet. The staff did a great job of pointing these out to guests, most of whom happily obliged. Quite why some guests decide these rules don't apply to them and ignore the staffs instruction is beyond me.
The grounds, although small, are well maintained and the pool area is ideal. The hotel is quite an unusual style, really quite eye catching inside. The light and the views from the higher levels are wonderful.
What makes this hotel is the staff who are so friendly and efficient. A special mention to Ana on reception who was a delight, full of charm and good humour.
A great hotel with lovely rooms and super customer service. Thank you fir making our week so enjoyable.

We booked a h/b package with Easyjet for 2 weeks not knowing this area since we last stayed in the old town nearly 20 years ago, we were glad we did the old town seemed to have moved to a place for the younger person at night.
The rooms are cheapest overlooking the road, but you can upgrade to overlook sea or a superior room also with sea view.
The rooms are spotless, i can honestly say the standard was exemplary, free water for first day but a supermarket just around the corner for more.
If we had a slight criticism it was having a shower in the bath.
We had buffet evening meals for 9 nights then due to reduced numbers a set 3 course menu the standard of which was excellent.
Perhaps the hotel could look at ensuring the large plates were hot in the buffet and also some of the set menu meals were barely warm so could be areas to improve.
The hotel has apartments for rental in nearby blocks with the opportunity to use the hotel restaurant which we intend doing next year.
Thank you staff your superb.

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights from Saturday 3rd to Thursday 8th September.
Check in was quick and efficient. Our room was on 4th floor and was really lovely. We had a side view of the sea which was so nice to have when waking up in the morning and also to watch sunset at evening. Room was spacious and had plenty of storage space / plenty of hangers in wardrobe. Safe also available but we never used this. TV had a few English channels which was fine. Bathroom was nice - shower pressure wasnt great but no big deal. The housekeeping staff always cleaned the room very well with clean towels each day.
We was staying on a bed & breakfast basis. Breakfast was always nice with a great selection always being available. Always a queue at the coffee machine though so maybe look to put in an extra machine? The staff always seemed very busy running around making sure food/drink was replenished.
We didnt use the pool area as preferred the beach which was about a 7 minute walk from the hotel. Loved the beach which had plenty of loungers but you do have to pay 10 Euros each per day and you have to get there before 11.30am before they are all taken. A really lovely beach cafe which I had lunch and great selection of food and drinks.
The hotel was in a great location. There was a selection of bars/restaurants about 5 minutes from the hotel plus a pharmacy. The "strip" was about 10 minute walk and the Old Town was about 10 mins drive in a taxi - cost about 7 Euros - definitely work a visit. Villamoura was just down the road but never got to visit.
Overall a really good stay and we would definitely look to stay again in the future.

We had a pianist play at night and a singer one night but no major entertainment. There is plenty nearby though on foot or further with a few euro in an uber, and the beach bar is lovely in the evening.
Just type the word iron into the review keyword search!
After the experience we had at this hotel I personally would not advise half board.
140 odd rooms only between 8 to 12 people were dining when we were there.
As for Xmas do not know of any special meals being laid on.
Good luck if you stick with half board. Starter plentiful choices. Main. Meal poor.
Deserts repetitive
