This has been the single best place I’ve been to in a long time. The location is breathtaking, picturesque and very tranquil. An amazing place to get lost in the beauty of nature and we also found it to be an amazing place to reflect and just appreciate a peaceful moment.. We dinned with the owners of the Herdade and other guests, which we thought it to be a lovely personal touch. Our apartment was beautiful, spacious, clean and well equipped. We cannot wait to returned and highly recommend this fantastic little g of a place.

Wasn't sure what to expect after a 3-4km approach on a dirt track, especially as we had booked it months earlier and couldn't remember why! But after all that we absolutely loved this place and can't wait to return. Rustic charm and a chic ambience delightfully supported by relaxed, friendly staff all in a stunning vineyard location in the middle of nowhere. A set dinner supper is available if you book (30 euro with wine) - no choice but good home cooked Portuguese fare. Breakfast is vibrantly fresh and carries on through the sense of wellbeing. A honesty bar, a beautifully designed infinity pool and walks through the vineyard down to the river complete the package. Superb.

Let alone the setting is magnificent but the hospitality was amazing. The scenery surrounding is beautiful. We started with wine tasting with approximately with six other people. We then went onto pre dinner wine with nibbles and finally dinner where the gorgeous wine flowed. The other six people were good company and a great evening was had by all. Our host was extremely attentive and well organized.

Me and my family stayed there for one night and it was amazing. The drive there helps build up the feeling you are going to place to relax and simply enjoy it! The rooms are beautiful and the all property is very well kept. The views are spectacular and spending the afternoon at the pool was really good, how not to enjoy a pool with those views?! We had dinner and breakfast outdoors, the food and service were really good, local products, attention to detail, and social distancing measures in place. A wine tasting session was gifted from a friend and definitely recommend it, it helps to know a bit more about their passion for winemaking and to know about the story behind Herdade do Vau, needless to say, how gorgeous the wines are. Definitely recommend it and looking forward to staying there again soon! Thank you so much for such an amazing weekend!

I am in love with Herdade do Vau! From the moment we arrived to the last moment was magical. We stayed only one night here and that was a mistake. I want to go back for a week. When we arrived we realized we were the only guests there on the property. Rang the bell and a lovely woman came out who did not speak English (and my family does NOT speak portugese.) Through miming we found our GORGEOUS rooms in the main house along with a lovely living area and dining room and well equipped spotless kitchen. She showed us the pool, made sure we had towels. I asked about beer and wine (it had been a long drive after all) and she led me to the old beautiful barn that had been repurposed as a tasting room and game room. So atmospheric! Then she pointed to the refridgerator which was stocked with beer and the wine made by the family that owns the house, took me to the kitchen to show where the corkscrew and glasses were. I was so excited about this that I went looking for my brother in law to show him. She did not understand what we were doing and was concerned we did not like our rooms and offered to let us stay in others. More miming later and we settled that because our rooms were, again, fantastic!!!!! We relaxed and enjoyed the pool and the amazing views and the nice lady came out to say that cocktails and appetizers would be served on the terrace and dinner would be ready in 30 minutes. We sat down to dinner in the lovely house at the large table meant for more than our small crowd and enjoyed spectacular paella, fresh tomatoes and salad. There was a lovely cake for dessert and the most amazing local cheese. STAY FOR THE DINNER, people! The next day, Luis came and apologized for not being there that night and told us of a lovely hike to the top of the nearby hill for more spectacular views and the way to the river where an old mill was there. Apparently this was the site of the old roman road and river ford. Those romans knew what they were doing - the countryside was so lovely. The breakfast the next day was lovely, more of that amazing cheese as well as meat, cereal, sweet rolls, bread, fruit, cheese and ham. And more of that amazing local cheese. Luis said we could stay as long as we liked if we could move our luggage to one room to allow the housekeeper to clean the other rooms. We lingered as long as we could and were reluctant to leave. When I went to pay the bill, I bought 3 bottles of wine for 7.5 euros each and told my brother in law. He said we needed 6 more because it was such lovely wine and a great price. We mimed to the housekeeper that we wanted more and she asked us to wait. Unknown to us, she called Luis who had left and came back to sell us more - how sweet is that? This is an amazing property that has been lovingly restored and expanded by a family that loves what they do - making wine and sharing it with others. Staying there is like staying at your rich friends country home. You MUST make a point of staying here! You will remember it for a lifetime. One note, they do not take credit cards, so have your euros handy.

I returned this year with my husband after a wonderful night's stay on the way back from the Algarve to Lisbon last year. It was a good as I remembered - a stunning conversion including a barn with ping pong and a picturesque pool. It's worth booking in for dinner as it's a good 20 mins to any other kind of life. The food is delicious and you sit with other guests who are always interesting. We even helped a bit with the grape harvest the following morning. All very idyllic.

We have been already a few times at Herdade do Vau. The experience has been always great. We enjoy the swimming pool and the wonderful views together with the drinks at sunset. The meals are excellent: real home made Portuguese food, simple and very well done with local ingredients. The visit to the vineyards is very instructive and Miguel is a passionate "professor". Manel and Miguel are fantastic hosts and make us feel at home.

A former farmhouse nicely restored in a place of difficult access that ensures peace and magnificent view over Guadiana river. Have some attention when driving in the last 2 km . The road is not asphalted! My room was spacious with nice furniture but could have a few more chairs for clothes . The bathroom was modern but poorly lit and with little room for personal belongings . The breakfast was excellent, varied and delicious . We had dinner at a large table with the owners and other guests. The codfish main course was delicious and the wine even better

This 19th century renovated villa is a unique and delightful get-a-way. Although it's off the beaten path it is well worth the effort. Situated in the rolling hills of a countryside covered in olive trees and grapevines, the beauty is exquisite and very different from the mountains in the north or the seaside towns on the coast. The rooms are beautifully redone. They have modern furnishings and air conditioning. The service was outstanding, as was the wine from the vineyard. The infinity pool, various areas to read or rest, and the family style dining for dinner made it an experience we will never forget.

And so we drove in the country side, beyond castles and forts endless plantations of olives, sunflowers and vines until a dirt road started. As a Chilean i knew that it was a great sing, the sign for real people. Lovely setting to enjoy wines, relax and look at the stars. Thank you for all the talks and all the thoughts, you built a great place for travelers to gather and share stories. Cheers!
