I chose this hotel as I wanted to be in the Amsterdam area but not in the city and it was very reasonably priced and had free car parking.

The hotel is located in the suburb of Zaandam and is one of the more modern B&B hotels and at the time I stayed there in June 2022 was undergoing renovations to transform the rooms from their former Ibis Budget style rooms to the better, I think B&B style rooms.

The hotel has a modern look and when I arrived it looked to me that it was kind of a life-size Lego building and that they had run our of the grey bricks and used some red, blue, white and yellow bricks here and there.

Check in was easy and the man on duty at the time was very friendly and informative and the lobby and café area seemed like a nice place to spend some time and there was also a small outside seating area.

The room as expected for a B&B property was small but functional, clean and modern with a comfortable bed, small side tables, some hanging and shelf space, wall mounted TV and a very small desk and padded stool. The bathroom which looked brand new was also small but functional and from the floorplan of the building on the back of the door appeared to be the main area that had been renovated enclosing the open shower from its former Ibis days into an enclosed room with the wc and vanity and the room was serviced each day.

.The only downside to my room that because of the renovations the air-conditioning wasn’t working which luckily wasn’t a huge problem during my stay.

One of the main reasons I picked this hotel was the free parking which was plentiful and didn’t have any issues finding a spot each night of my five night stay.

The location like most B&B hotels is in a semi commercial industrial area and there wasn’t much within walking distance except for another hotel and a Shell petrol station but there were plenty of other options a short drive away.

I used the hotel as a base to explore the areas around Amsterdam from Zaandam to Den Helder, Delft, Gouda and The Hague and found that the hotel and its location were perfect for this.

Would happily stay here again.

On arrival needed an optician, reception were very helpful. Very clean basic twin room, beds pushed together as wanted a double room. No problem. We stayed 5 nights and housekeeping changed towels everyday, till we realised how to stop her. Would advise a sign in bathroom to only replace towels left in shower, when room is more than one night. Breakfasts were very varied with several breads for toast or sandwiches, jams, etc. Cereals, boiled eggs, yogurts, fruit, tea, coffees, drinking chocolates. Plus orange and apple juices. Very filling. Snacks were available during the day and evening for small prices. We have used several of these hotels in France and Belgium and knew we would be well looked after in Holland too. Would recommend and will use again.

We travelled as a couple to visit Amsterdam for my wife's 50th birthday. The hotel was great value for money but it is off the beaten track (it seems to be located in an Industrial Estate) though a short bus trip away from Zaandam central which means that there are few shops/amenities within walking distance. A bus into Zaandam is currently €2.80 and there is a decent choice of bars/restaurants. A bus trip to Amsterdam is €6.50 and the bus stops are only five minutes away from the hotel. The receptionist was brilliant and informative and the room, whilst compact, was ideal for us and very clean. The breakfast option is a continental cold meat buffet with various breads/rolls/croissants and enough to bulk up on to start your day. There is cereals, yoghurts also with tea/coffee and because there is nowhere close to get an alternative, then I would recommend taking the breakfast option. Overall, we loved our stay in a great budget priced hotel and thank you to the staff for all of their advice. Please bring euros as a lot of the local shops do not take credit or debit cards.

In short , a modern well managed hotel 25min away from Amsterdam central .
The staff is extremely friendly and caring , Ron the Manager , Pamela and Rosa will help you making your stay very comfortable! The rooms are clean and funktional , shower is in the room and wc is seperate. The beds are comfortable , two pillows are provided ( soft & firm) .
We had a room close to the elevator and the soundproofing is outstanding ( believe me i know the difference).
The breakfast is basic but delicious, one has to order it the night before and specify the time ( seating is limited due to the pandemie, but Ron manage the table-times very efficiently .
The bus 391 ( 3minutes walk from the hotel) takes you in ca 25 min to Amsterdam Central Busstop H . Returntrip departs from Busstop L . Scheduled times are roughly every 30 minutes.
Zaandam city center is 20 min walking distance away which is a lovely walk . A chinese take-away and a small turkish supermarket is 10 minutes away.
In an emergency : a petrol-station is across the street!
&
Dear Ron , Pamela and Rosa : thank you for your hospitality!

This is an option to stay at Zaandam as the hotel next to the train station is expensive. You need to take bus number 111 to reach this hotel and walk about 50 meters from bus stop.it used to be Ibis Hotel. The location is nice as it is near residential area, but as Schiphol airport is not too far away you still can see airplanes take off and the roaring sounds. Lobby is tiny, and there is free croissants at reception desk at afternoon. Small room as expected, no kettles, only two paper cups. The bed is comfortable, there is AC in the room and window can be opened but expect for insects fly in. The location is in the center of nowhere,so prepare yourself before check in such as snacks. There is even no minimarket in walking distance. For a short stay it is fine but not for long stays. The price is moderate but still expensive compared to Germany B&B hotels. Only recommended for those who just need a place to sleep and shower.

We stayed at ibis for three nights and would recommend it. The room was very comfortable with everything you would need. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was continental which was enough for us and it was of a high standard. We will definitely choose this hotel again.

So this is a remote basic b&b on a trading estate, 20 minutes by taxi to Amsterdam central. Clean and acceptable for a couple nights stay, I would not have been happy if I had stayed longer, as the rooms are very small, no tea or coffee in rooms, the bathroom door doesn't close unless locked. Our room wasn't changed daily as the website suggests, but I asked and made sure it was the third night. Also only one flat pillow. Aircon works well. Unfortunately with window open we had lots of flies and mosquitos in the room so had to keep it close. It's ashame the place won't take cash as its easier sometimes. Also tables outside could have done wirh a clean where people smoke etc.

The hotel was situated half an hour outside the city centre with only one bus. There was renovations going on for the past 5 months which we were not informed about when we booked it and started every morning at 6am. Staff were incredibly rude.

Staff we lovely but it was a 40 min walk from zaandam centre and over an hour to get into Amsterdam centre. We were in an industrial estate with nothing around us not even a shop. We had to leave after our first night and pay for a new hotel in Amsterdam as felt unsafe in the hotel a lot of banging through the night and can hear everything. Room was very small and could not open out suitcase.

Stayed for 4 nights, they offered me a slightly bigger room for comfort. Staff is very friendly and flexible and they'll always look for possibilities to help you out.
The hotel has a nice lobby/seating area where you can meet other travelers. Plenty of choices at breakfast.
I had a car at hand so didnt havr to travel by bus/train. Its about 15mins to AMS centre and about 18 to Zaanse Schans.

Pricewise; very good deal!

Hi, You can check in and out with a debet or creditcard in the bus and pay only for what you travel, if you only want to go to Amsterdam once a day is this the cheapest option. We also sell public region tickets in the hotel. With this ticket you can use all public transport unlimited (bus, metro, train) in the region of 20 km around Amsterdam. Prices per person for 1 day is 21 Euro, 2 days 31.50 and 3days 40.50. Best regards, Ron Team B&B

Hi Jet, Connexxion Buslines provide transport in the area that you are staying, you can get a one day travel ticket from them for the Amsterdam Area for 16 EURO a 1 day per person (Multiple days available). A single one way ticket is 6 EURO according to their website (although I have also got a lower price of less than 3 EUROS, so a bit confusing ). The Connexxion website has this information on the travel ticket: "Amsterdam Travel Tickets: Are you planning to visit Amsterdam for a day or more and will you be arriving at Schiphol Airport? The Amsterdam Travel Ticket includes a 2nd class ticket to and from Schiphol Amsterdam Airport to any station in Amsterdam. You can travel by NS train, or you can travel by bus 397 (Amsterdam Airport Express) directly to the centre of the city in only 25 minutes. Combined with unlimited travel on all trams, buses, night buses, metros and ferries operated by GVB, this is the perfect ticket for exploring Amsterdam". That makes these day tickets excellent value, however it's important to remember that these cover the Amsterdam area only, a similar ticket with access to regional areas close to Amsterdam cost 18.50 EURO 1 Day, this will give you all the same as the Amsterdam Area but plus travel to close regional centres, for example, Edam & Volendam. The bus stop is very close to the hotel, and the bus will take you into Amsterdam centre, or to Zaandam centre, the bus station is at the Zaandam railway station, so you can have the option of getting the train into Amsterdam Central as well, NS trains are included in the day ticket. Google Connexxion NL and go to the Connexxion website, you can purchase the pass on line, several pick up places available, if you pick up at the airport you can use it straight on the Connexxion Airport Express bus, or go downstairs to the NS train station and travel on your tiket to Amsterdam Central and change trains to Zaandam, gt the Connexxion bus from Zaandam to Ibis Zaandam, the bus is 392 and the stop is "Zaandam, Hotels Vijfhoek" . PS The bus stop for Zaandam is nearest the Hotel, the one for Amsterdam is a few metres further down on the opposite side of the road. Enjoy your trip hope this helps. Cheers Drew

Can you get a tram to the hotel? If so how far away is it from central by tram?
Answer from Andrew
Perth, Australia321 contributions141 helpful votes
Hi there, the ticket I used was the "Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket", available 1-3 days, I had the 3 day pass, so I guess if you want to get a card for 5 days buy a 3 day + a 2 day pass (5 Days) for each traveller, the card doesn't activate until use it the first time. So keep the follow-on cards separate! Alternatively just wait until the 3 day one expires, and buy a 2 Day one, from selected outlets in the city, e.g. Central Station, tourist offices etc. The advantage with this pass is it includes Connexxion buses which are the company that connect you to Zaandam Centre and rail station from the bus stop 100m away from the Ibis Zaandam. You can also get a bus from the same stop to go to Zaanse Schaans the fabulous outdoor heritage village on the River Zaan (Beware not all cards include private bus operators, this one DOES). The bus is a 392 and the bus stop you want is "Zaandam, Hotels Vijfhoek" the internal buses digital display will show it as the next stop. The range outside the city is extensive, it includes Edam/ Volendam and Marken. They supply you a network map, the card also includes the tram network and regional rail network. NOTE: It also includes the Schipol Airport rail service (Not all Amsterdam cards do). There is also a pickup point for the cards at Schipol on your way out of the Airport, so you can use it straight away for your trip into the city. If you are coming from Schipol just change at Amsterdam Central and get the train from there to Zaandam, the bus station is to the left just outside Zaandam rail station and is where you get the bus to the Zaandam Ibis. The cards are tag on/ tag off system. Your hotel is an excellent choice by the way, the staff are helpful and the rooms practical, modern and clean. Google "connexxion.nl/amsterdam-and-region-travel-ticket" this will ensure you get the right ticket, across the board it is EUR33.5 for a 3 day pass, the image of the card on their site is exactly the card you need. Click on the "Download the map for travel tips (2017)" Adobe Icon, this 2 page Map is a mine of info for the destinations included and which transport option goes where and all the company logo's that supply the free travel. I recommend buying online and then picking up at the Schipol Airport or Central Station, but check open hours! To buy online Google "public-transport-holland product amsterdam-region-travel-ticket" MAKE SURE YOU GET THE PUBLIC TRANSPORT HOLLAND SHOP SITE, the distinctive RED colour with Amsterdam and Regional Travel Card will be displayed on the home page and 3 day= EUR33.5 One last thing this card is strictly for transport and will save you heaps, however it does not give discounts etc at attractions as far as I know. If you want info on Zaanse Schaans hit me up. Have a great trip. Drew
