Hotel Old Dutch offered a comfortable way to finish our week in the Netherlands before returning to the airport. The hotel overlooks the main drag adjacent to the marina and can be noisy at night until things quiet down. Upper floor rooms will have a ceiling that has some funky configurations and beams to whack your head on; stay below the 3rd floor. The breakfast was satisfying. There are many shops within a short walk, including a place to rent bicycles (which we did.)

The beds were comfortable and, once the partying on the street subsided, the night was quiet. We hotel is a short walk from the bus stop, providing a convenient way to get there from Amsterdam Central.

We'd come back.

Great location with harbor views from the restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. Small lift but also has walkable stairs. Nice breakfast. Rooms were clean and spacious for Europe. Cute rooftop views. Secure Bike parking in the lower level garage.

Hotel Old Dutch at Volendam's harbor is a treasure. It is a small hotel above the local's favourite restaurant. The rooms are large and those facing the harbor have a magnificent view. Breakfast is typical Dutch and very good. We enjoyed this hotel (and town) so much we stayed an extra night.

This is a hotel which has rooms of three star quality, as there should be, but the mentality of a hostel!

It is true that the inclusions of the room don't mention a tea coffee kettle, but at the price level of nearly USD 200/ night, this is not something one would expect to check while booking! But this hotel does not offer that basic convenience. They want you to go down to the restaurant and buy it, so you must change before you can have a morning coffee! Breakfast is pretty basic too, with not even a toaster to warm up your bread.

The bathroom amenities are the cheapest quality too and most limited. No cream. No conditioner. No hand tissue. The weather gets quite warm in the summer but there is no cooling provision in the rooms, whereas the bedding provided is the same as the winter. One cannot open the window because of street noise. Check out is 11am and this is the FIRST time ever, a hotel refused to extend it even by 20min!! For no real reason, except attitude. Bearing in mind the price point, it was a very unpleasant experience.

The access to the hotel by car is confusing and when we arrived, we called the hotel for the access and we were told that it mentions on their website that there is no car access, which is, however, not mentioned on booking.com. So we walked with our luggage for almost half a kilometer to reach the hotel.

Mum and I stayed here during a cycling tour and were treated to a room at the front of the hotel which looked out onto the harbour. Amazing views, so much to watch and see. It was an absolute treat!! The decoration in the room was a little tired and old fashioned in parts, but really with views like that who is looking at it!
The staff were very friendly and welcoming, the room was clean and very spacious. The bath was a lovely unexpected touch too.
The buffet breakfast provided a range of options and was served in a lovely dining room, where you felt at ease and very relaxed.
Highly recommend staying!

If anyone were to look at traveller traffic routes over the past two decades then one would realise that when you look at the country of The Netherlands - by default one thinks "booze, sex & rock n roll" - However The Netherlands is more than the "xxx" modern day branding for Amsterdam. The Dutch are all about hospitality, love and Amsterdam basically means "Freedom" (of any school of thought which basically means to accept diversity)

I have been a part of the Travel & Tourism industry for over two decades so when I review a property I look at many factors before I judge a property (which I don't by the way) - I had to visit Haven, Volendam for some Real Estate work & I had to find a location to hold an Emotional Well Being Tour in the coming months...

Initially when we saw the property online we had many reservations - the website had listed the property but there was no personal touch in the website (hotel consolidator site) - I and my team had our reservations as there were too many rules to follow like a certain time to check in and kitchen timing limitations etc... We visited the property and this is what we found to be the reality!

The Old Dutch Hotel is a remarkable property which one should go to if they desire to have beautiful, breathtaking surroundings, serenity, and a peace of mind.

It really does not matter as you can be an old couple looking for some peace and quiet.
Or you might be a newly wedded couple discovering that there is more to adjust to in each other and one needs tranquility to overcome any fears ahead as getting married was easy... remaining married with all the surrounding challenges ahead might be a little complicated.

The Old Dutch Hotel property is a waterfront property so it is a given that any room you get will have simply stunning views. Being from the Travel World and with all my connections and FOC or Free Of Cost (Bartered Rooms) the best thing that I liked about the property was that "it did not smell of . smoke or weed" at all.

People who come to this hotel come for the true Dutch Experience as the menu is small & may seem inexpensive but the property is extremely focused on the quality of the food served. I tried their cod and chips (fish & chips) & then another meal which was a simple steak - being a Brit I realised that the food was fresh & most of all honestly cooked!

The Old Dutch Hotel delivers what it promises which is a simple honest Dutch Holiday experience. The staff are always available and smiling. Kevin at the reception as well as the rest of their staff are locals from the village and the best thing is that the Hotel supports the local community.

The property has excellent wifi being located the way a resort would be which is out away from the city noise & even though its remote location might be a concern to people one does understand that the shops that surround the hotel are very reasonably priced compared to some of the rates you might find for tourist trinkets or t-shirts in main Amsterdam.

I stayed for 2 nights & when I left all I could do was have one regret - leaving the property as one simply felt at home whilst being there. In my line of work one understands within a second if someone is trying to pull a fast one and even though i desperately tried to find something to complain about - I really could not!

(Please bear this in mind that everyone has a different view / opinion and their reviews are based upon personal customer experiences as are mine)

Lovely boutique hotel overlooking the sea.
The room was modern but well integrated in the ancient atmosphere of the hotel.

Unfortunately the people at the front desk were not very friendly with foreigns, our impression was that at 'the old Dutch' if you are not Dutch you are not welcome...

We were looking forward to this village in northern Holland as well as the "character" hotel that it was supposed to be. Well it certainly had character, just not what we expected or wanted.

First of all there is no private car-parking, there is a lucky draw on the dockside in front of the hotel, provided you arrive before 8pm when the gates are locked and you can't get in, in which case you park quite a walk away from the hotel.

Then the ground floor area is more like a big pub than a restaurant, with lots of loud people drinking, smoking etc, and the wait staff doubling as check-in staff for the hotel trying to deal with us in between taking meals and drinks out to tables.

The room was large enough but very old, and carpets were filthy with stains. Bathroom was usable but also old and the sink which had split was patched up with duct tape underneath and shower curtain was mouldy.

There was no free wi-fi (had to pay 5euros for an hour) which we expect given the cost of the rooms.

At 96 euros per night it was very expensive by European standards for what you got. We had booked for 3 nights but were so disappointed we left the next day.

Our group stayed at this "wonderful little hidden gem" of a hotel prior to our Scandinavia and Russia cruise out of Amsterdam. It was FABULOUS! From the initial contact about my group, Kevin, from the hotel, was very prompt and informative with his email replies. And, once we arrived, he was there every step of the way to make our stay perfect (seems like he was there 24/7!). This quaint hotel combined with the little fisherman's village, Volendam, is a great way to be close to Amsterdam (easy shuttle bus to and from for 10 Euro roundtrip) but yet not in the middle of the city! From the beautiful view of the water out the front door to the great local food and night life.....it was the perfect start to our great adventure!

The hotel location by the harbor is perfect. This newly renovated hotel offers lovely and clean rooms, great food choices and very friendly service. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are spacious. Just try to avoid the corner rooms because they are much smaller in size.

There is free parking at 10 minutes walking distance from the Volendam harbour. Links are not allowed here. Google is your best friend. Search for "volendam parking" and first after the ads is "Free parking - Gemeente Edam-Volendam". Advice: go and visit the famous cheese town of Edam. It's very close. Then buy a REAL Edam cheese at the "Kaasspeciaalzaak Edam" at the address Spui 8. You have never tasted the real Edam if you haven't been there! You'll lover it!!!
