This lavishly decorated and well managed B&B exceeded all our expectations. It’s special in every way. We were very pleased with our ‘luxury’ room #4 on the ground level and especially enjoyed its spacious sunroom sitting area with patio doors opening to a lush garden. Heaps of natural light illuminates the room during the day from the south-facing sunroom and large west windows; but blocked out when needed with thick curtains. The stylish room is equipped with a comfy-cushy bed, large table surface, stocked minibar, laptop-size safe, sufficient closet space, 2 flat screen TVs and uber-fast Wifi. Although the bathroom (with a shower) is on the small size, it’s in great condition, clean and refreshed daily with new towels. Traffic noise from the main road can be a bit loud at times when sitting in the south garden, but you cannot hear it from inside or the front of house patio area. Their self-serve, honour system works incredibly well for check-in, coffee/tea/pop/beer/wine (ranges from 3 to 5 euros) and bikes (5 or 10 euros per use depending on style of bike). Parking (on or off street) is a breeze. It’s an easy walk of 10-15 minutes to nearby restaurants/bistros and the centrum. We didn’t partake in the optional breakfast but the selection looked very good. There are various communal spaces for lounging inside - all are elegantly designed with chic touches. It’s hard not to love the boutique-style and serene surroundings of this accommodation that’s set in an upscale neighbourhood. Every aspect, including the hospitable owners, made for a restful week-long visit to Hilversum. On a scale of 1 to 5 (best): Staff 5 Location 5 Value 5 View 4 Comfort 5 Quiet 5 Cleanliness 5 Wifi 5

We really enjoyed our stay here. The room was clean and the owner was especially friendly. They also have a nice, inviting policy: they ask you to say what you ate/drank from the minibar/downstairs and settle-up at the end.

Almost unnoticeable from the busy, main road it sits upon, Villa Trompenberg is certainly discreet in its standing, and 15 minutes’ walk from the Media Park. Its traditional Dutch design and self-service methodology are refreshing and work well in this family-run, converted house. The décor and furnishings are on the darker side, almost cosy, and with good blackout curtains and sound-proofing. Strong Wi-Fi and complimentary toiletries provided throughout; a mini-bar is also available, both in-room and downstairs. Breakfast was of a high standard with a nice selection of continental options and eggs cooked to order.

The hotel is beautifully situated in a dead end street, surrounded by lots of green. The choice of colours wouldn't be mine, it's all very dark. Dark grey, brown and black, from the walls to the carpets to the paintwork. The room was small and very hot. The dark colours andthe large chandelier hanging above the bed made the room even smaller. The summer in The Netherlands was unusually hot and so was the room. The doors to the balcony could be opened to let some air in. Unfortunately the portable air conditioner was blowing only air, the cooling system didn't work. Although the bed was extremely comfortable, we didn't sleep much because of the room's temperature. The small bathroom had no ventilation at all. Breakfast was a feast however, lots of choice and great coffee, great selection of tea, fresh bread and rolls. Friendly staff. But for the price per night I was really disappointed that nobody had checked the makeshift air conditioning. An unnecessary bad night's sleep.
