We stayed on the 4th floor for 3 nights. The stairs were really narrow and hard to climb -no elevator- , the staff were not friendly and one of them did not speak good English and could not communicate with us as he should. The bathroom was the most disgusting thing ever and we could barely use the bathroom and...

My friend and I needed somewhere to stay for a few nights, this was the cheapest place that was available at the time we booked. The location is great, but that's about it. The rooms were pretty small and were super hot when we were there. There was also a mouse running about downstairs, but he left the scene pretty...

In the heart of the red light district. Only stayed there because of someone we knew was also, staying there. We stayed on the 3 rd floor, 8 beds, tiny room, absolutely no,security, shower, bathroom was disgusting. It was so small , if you wanted to sit on the toilet the way you should , you could not. Although who would want...

Very good location and warm room. Everything else was terrible. Very small and not very clean bathrooms. Very small room and overall an unpleasant place. If you are not staying for a short time and you care about more than location wouldn't recommend.

This is a good place to stay in Amsterdam if you are looking for a bed in a central location. It is on a very busy street just a 5 minute walk away from the Train station and right on the edge of the Red Light District. There was no sort of common area for everyone and the staff worker...

This hostel was by far the worst I've ever stayed at. The rooms were tiny. We had a 4 person room and could barely move around when all 4 people were in there. The bathroom sink was so small you could not even wash your face. No free breakfast, the blankets seemed to have not been washed, and the place...

The handy location is the only redeeming feature of this terrible hostel. They charge you the 'location price' - near to the station, the centre and the red light district, but the location is not worth it for such a horrible experience. 15 euros for a cramped bed in a really cramped 8 bed room. The stairs are as steep...

I've stayed in plenty of hostels but this one is by far one of the worst I've stayed in. Stayed in a 10 person dorm, i know it is being renovated but i expect cleanish rooms and bed that didn't squeak or move every time some one rolled over on the bottom bunk. Church bells ring every 5 minutes but...

My two friends and I (21 & 22 yr olds girls) stayed here for a long weekend Thurs to Mon and we would definitely go back. The location was absolutely perfect, so close to everything (we never needed to pay for public transport anywhere) and easy to find from Amsterdam Centraal when we arrived. The rooms were small but everyone...

Stayed here on my own in a 10 person dorm room. The location is great, lots to do around here. The beds were actually comfy which I didn't expect from a hostel. The staff were super friendly and I got discount at the awesome crepes and waffles place next door with my wrist band!

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
