NL-Hotel Leidseplein is a charming boutique hotel where you enjoy a personal approach by the staff and the comfort of Dutch design. The hotel is located in an authentic Amsterdam canal house on the Nassaukade and is designed by Edward van Vliet who transformed into a contemporary design hotel. The stylish design hotel is located in the heart of Amsterdam, which was recently declared World Heritage by UNESCO. Stayed at the NL Hotel for 1 night with my family: Its a small hotel, is a good area, near the Van Gogh and Rijks Museum. lots of restaurants and bars near by so all in all a god location if not central; its about 25 minute walk to the central station: On check in i was welcomed by a helpful lady who gave me all the information i need about the hotel (tourist tax city tax etc). The room had 2 small double beds - they were comfortable enough, it was a tight squeeze for 2 adults and 2 teenagers, but it was fine: The bathroom was however DIRTY: there were hairs in the bath and in the corners: in all my days traveling (i travel a lot) i have NEVER seen a toilet brush as FILTHY - its was DISGUSTING: On check out i mentioned it to the guy sitting at reception to be answered with shrug - we needed to leave some luggage - this it seemed was not something he was intrested in - he was rude, unhelpful; There must be better near by at similar prices: I for one will never be back:

The NL Hotel was very comfortable, cozy, and they made good use of all of their space in this quiet Amsterdam neighborhood. There’s a medium sized orange sign outside of the hotel; which easy to miss if you’re not paying attention because it looks like a regular apartment building. The price of the hotel is very reasonable for the location and close proximity to the trams and 15-20min walk to the city center.

This hotel came as a package with EasyJet holidays so we were a bit dubious after reading some of the reviews. We were very pleased to find it was very close to perfect for us. Upon arriving we met a nice young lady at reception who booked us in quickly and efficiently and also gave us a map of the city. We were dreading the stairs after reading the reviews but were happy to discover a newly installed lift which took us up to the third floor (our room was on the fourth) so we had to climb the remaining floor by the stairs. There was in total about 12 stairs so no big deal, and they weren't so bad just a bit narrow. The actual room (number 21) was small but perfectly formed. We were in the eves of the building which was complete with original old beams from when it was a canal house. There were fab shutters on a very big window which was great to have open at night plus a velux window in the ceiling. There was a big wardrobe for our clothes, a safe and a cool box. In the bathroom there was a large shower a toilet and basin. The only reason I have scored down one star is because the floor got wet on the toilet side when having a shower so the floor towel got soaking wet. At least the hotel have now replaced all bathroom doors with wooden ones now instead of the glass see-through ones that were there before. I have to say that the actual bed was one of the best beds I have ever slept in. It was like sleeping on a cloud, so comfy! Another good feature was that on the inside of the room you could press a button which told the housekeeper whether or not you wanted the room made up or not to disturb. This was displayed on the wall outside of the room, great idea! There were tea and coffee making facilities in the room with several free tea bags and coffee sticks, two free bottles of water and two kit-kats. Tea and coffee were replenished every day. We also found the hotel to be very quiet, we never heard our neighbours although some reviewers are saying the walls were very thin, we never had a problem. Lastly, the location of the hotel was really good. Just on the outskirts of the centre but close enough to walk to all the main attractions. I would advise to get the bus from Schipol (no. 397), it takes only 40 minutes and they run every 7 minutes and stop a few minutes walk from the hotel (6 euros each way and pay by card, no cash). We would recommend this hotel and would not hesitate to stay here again, enjoyed every minute! PS: Check out is 11am but you can leave your bags in the lobby and collect later if you need to.

I can understand when one wants to stay in the center of the city and this location is fantastic - no doubt, and the staff (only one!!!!) is good and kind - I met one staff in the evening when checking-in, who was busy taking people up the newly installed 'elevator', which is actually a construction hoist all cleaned up (see pictures) and had to wait for more than 10 mins to check-in. I then met another staff the next morning when checking-out. That's the good part. There is no restaurant in this hotel - so don't expect any meals. Scary lifts/elevators if you're claustrophobic. I was on the last floor (4th) and there was no elevator for it - I had to go to the 3rd floor and lug my bag up a spiral staircase that was very uncomfortable. I could hear my neighbors chat through the think walls of my room. Horribly small rooms (got an 8 sq.m. hole-in-the-wall for €167/night) and bathrooms. An owner trying to maximize his earning - You cannot shave properly since the toilet bowl/seat wouldn't allow me to stand erect. The wash basin size reflects the small room (see pictures). There was no air-conditioning/air-flow regulator and I was miserably hot. The window was complicated, so I couldn't open that either. The bed was alright, but the plug-points for charging your phone were on the other side - so you can't sleep, check your phone when charging (if you wanted to). Go at your own risk. I definitely won't be staying there again.
