My husband and I stayed at Maes B&B - Heren's other rooms - and loved the experience. We stayed in the room next to the kitchen, and enjoyed being able to use the kitchen and the terrace. Vlad was a welcoming host and we were impressed with the app that the had to show us restaurants and more near the... More

I can't imagine a better place to stay while in Amsterdam. The hosts were friendly and knowledgeable, and the typical Dutch breakfast was very good. The newly remodeled and modern rooms are very nice, and the windows let you soak in the city. Plenty of space for gezelligheid.

I really enjoyed my 2 night stay at this b&b. I arrived after a long flight from the US and an easy 10 min walk from Amsterdam Central Station. Ken allowed me to check into my room early. He downloaded an App on my phone that proved to be very helpful in finding great restaurants close to the b&b, sites... More

The annex has just two rooms - a double and a loft unit with bedroom and living room. Both are ensuite and attractively decorated. There is a full kitchen and roof terrace on the 3rd floor with the double. The refrigerator is well stocked for breakfast plus snacks and refilled daily. Someone bounds up the VERY steep stairs each morning... More

We were on a two-week European vacation book-ended by stays in Amsterdam at the beginning and end of that trip, along with stops in Berlin and Prague in between. I have always used Rick Steves as a reliable source for all things Europe and once again his guidebook did not disappoint. We loved our stay in Heren B&B. Our room... More

To summarize (if you want to skip the rest): The room was extremely noisy especially at night, the mattress was very uncomfortable, and during the night the room was too bright from the hallway lighting. Owner Ken is an irritable and very offensive man with no sense of customer service. He sees guests as dollar signs and once you book... More

We visited Amsterdam from 30 December 2015 - 3 January 2016 and stayed at Maes & Heren. We arrived on time and were warmly greeted and shown to our room which was a couple of minutes walk away from Herenstraat on Singel 95. Our room was lovely with an excellent bathroom and as we found out later on the most... More

Staying in Centrum

Neighbourhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
