Overpriced nasty hostel with filthy rooms and bathrooms! The staff were a bunch of incompetent, not service minded rude people. Found a bed bug this morning on the bed in a 8-people room. The staff wanted proofs such as bites - pictures was not enough. Their explanation was, that the pictures were taken in another hotel. The only thing they...

Stayed with 3 friends, aim was to have fun and enjoy a friends birthday weekend. It went well. Can get train from Schipol and walk from the central station around 10-15 minutes? Right in the heart of the city. Next to the red light district but don't let that put you off. Has a communal room where you can smoke...

Really 2 1/2 stars. Spent 3 nights here during Halloween weekend. The bathrooms and showers were clean and I had no complaints about them. There was what looked like paint stain on one of the sheets, which wasn't a problem with me but may have bothered others. I would not recommend this hostel to solo travelers as it seemed to...

I'd recommend it. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. After showing my US military ID for check in, the lady at the desk was VERY kind and gave me a room all to myself. It was a five person room with its own shower and bathroom. The beds are what you can expect from a hostel. The facilities were...

Disgusting place plagued with bed bugs, had to search on the streets until I found Hilton doubletree (which is perfect) at 2am but refund was given.. Rooms were cold, dirty and the bed sheets were like card board.

First of all is not so bad. It has best location in Amsterdam, situated just in the Red street. People working there are in the bad mood, but dont mind it. Our room was 18 people sleeping room, but it was fine. With deposit of 5€ you get your locker, so you will be fine with precious things. Toilet is...

As my first stay in a hostel, I was not expecting much, but this was worse than what I imagined. The hostel itself seemed ok. Situated over a bar and minutes from the heart of the red light district, we were happy with the location. You needed a card to get from the bar up to the room, so were...

The service we received was the worst I have ever experienced. We knew it was shared rooms however the first night we arrived my friend was waken up and then attacked, kicked out of her bed by a man that was drunk and threatening everyone because he was told that was his bed. The receptionist on duty told him to...

After booking this hostel and reading the reviews I was extremely worried. I honestly cant find one fault with this hostel. Its located in the Red Light District and there is plenty going on in the evenings nearby. It is also located beside a canal which is very pretty during the daytime. There were 3 of us and we stayed...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
