The strongest point of this Hostel is the location! It is on the middle of the "Red Light", so you're close to everything. We got in at night, the check-in was made by a really nice and friendly young guy, that explained to us all the procedures and did some reccomendations about the city. The conditions of the room was...

I'm a 24 yr old female solo traveller. I loved staying at the globe. The bar downstairs was fun. The location is hard to beat (so many coffee shops, restaurants and red light district close by) it's easy to find from the central train station and the rooms are clean and lots of room (I stayed in a mix 8bed...

For a group I think this hostel is ideal. It's a great location, it was clean and tidy, the bar was good and the staff were fine. That said, I found it a bit expensive - but then we did have 5 of us staying in an 8 person room, booked last minute, so the price was probably higher than...

The first thing I would say about this hotel would be, for the most part it is very convenient; clean, good pub/smoking area atmosphere, decent drink and food prices, coffee shops and supermarkets with an ATM machine near by, wifi (however only works on the stairs). I stayed in a family room with 4 friends which appeared clean and sufficient...

I wanna start by saying this is well worth the money paid. We had a family room with our own bathroom which was clean ENOUGH, I also used the communal areas which were spotless as well. Now, don't come here if you want a quiet break, it won't happen. Also, our phone alarm was going off and the bloke accused...

The room I was staying at was not clean, I found a bug on the bed and the receptionists were extremely impolite and the man was rude and mean and he insulted me. also the blanket on my bed was missing and when I asked for another one they told me they don't have extra blankets.

Stayed here for a few nights in Feb. Things to note are that the wifi sucks unless you are down in the bar and nowhere else. There is a five euro deposit per door key. A can of cola is two euro seventy. They do have good drink promos on which is fine. Pool room is available but is used...

The bartender was an old man who seemed extremely angry and didn't really want to serve me. The prices weren't the same as they were on the internet. The wifi didn't work in the rooms. I'm in love with Amsterdam and this put a bad taste in my mouth.

The hotel is in a really good location, close to the Centraal Station and Dam Square. It has a great bar downstairs (with happy hour in the afternoon) that is open til late and also a smoking area with pool tables/darts etc. I travelled with a group of 8 people so we booked a private room with ensuite bathroom. The...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
