Well if you like sleeping in a dark and extremely noisy ashtray, look no further, this place is perfect! 😷 Otherwise, this place is grossly overpriced for what it is. Very in need of refurbishing, and stop allowing smoking in the bedrooms, it is disgusting! We wanted to move, but of course there is a 24 hour cancellation policy, and...

Group of friends staying in the 6 person apartment. When we arrived at the hotel we we're very politely greeted by a man who went over everything with us and let us store our luggage there whilst we waited for the apartment to be ready. We first entered the apartment and were shocked. We knew the stairs would be steep...

We stayed at the Koopermoolen for 7 nights from 30th Aug 2016. We had a great stay we arrived in Amsterdam at 11.30 am I wasn't expecting our room to be ready as check in is later in the day but we were lucky our room had been vacated early so we could check in. We were on the second...

I only stayed here one night, so my experience may not be typical, but the worst thing about it for me was that the room stank of stale cigarette smoke, even though the window was open. OK, the hotel's a cheapish 2 star, so I wasn't expecting luxury, but I really didn't expect this - it was like sleeping in...

Stayed here for 4 nights at the end of august. The hotel was great, staff were friendly rooms cleaned daily. It's easy to find and in a busy location, try hill street blues just down the road and wonderbar. Only bad thing I will say is no air conditioning and the lift is tiny

Brilliant location two minutes walk from centraal station. Friendly helpful staff. Most comfortable beds I've slept in at a hotel. Breakfast is basic and tasty. Room was incredibly hot with a constant whiff of cannabis through the vent. The sink was cracked, the floor was cracked and there was a water leak in the bathroom so a constant puddle on...

We stayed with a group of girls for 3 nights it was really nice and a good location. We had an apartment which was nice and cosy. The only negative thing I would say about this hotel was the stairs were very long and narrow and you need to be careful after a drunken night as you may fall and...

The price for a room here is Good, the location is Good, but in the Red light district - theese two things attracts the low budget travellers - and the hotel provides just that. The rooms are ok if you just need a bed and a shower- the breakfast is there (coffee, bread, cheese), and that is about it. I...

Great little hotel on the edge of the Red Light District and walking distance to Central Station, sights, shopping and canal cruises. Very basic accommodations - no fancy toiletries or modern conveniences like A/C or a business desk in our room. BUT, very clean, no musty smells and no bugs. Very friendly helpful staff and basic breakfast in the breakfast...

I was unsure what to expect when my friend booked this hotel, as it was listed as 2 star, although the majority of TripAdvisor reviews said it was good. We arrived in the morning, and the very friendly guy on reception said we could leave our bags in the luggage room until the room was ready. The reception is manned...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
