Stayed here mid July and we had a great experience. Staff were all friendly, the people staying there were also all young (most under 26ish), prices were good considering it was in the BEST location (3 mins from central station and the red lights), the bar in the hostel got very busy every night and you could smoke in there...

I arrived to Amsterdam on a Saturday (July 18th)morning during peak tourist season without anywhere to stay. Everywhere was telling me that a last minute Saturday night would be 60€ and there were two night minimums and I thought I'd be homeless in Amsterdam until I found hostel meeting point. I showed up and there was a sign on the...

Stayed there with three other friends because their 4bed private room was the cheapest in Dam (and also on the main street!), but we were happily surprised by the amenities offered. There is no kitchen but they offer toasties at pretty much any time of night, same goes for some drinks in case of severe dry mouth and munchies. The...

Bad: no power in the rooms (have to charge everything in the bar) The bar was also the only room with wifi Very dirty with a musty smell Covered in graffiti Rudimentary lock system: There was only one lock and that was at the front door, and instead of keys they give you a flimsy piece of paper to show...

Great place to stay, good atmosphere and cheap drinks with a 24/7 bar. The staff were lovely also. Location was perfect right in the middle of everything. However there was no guest kitchen so this was only a small downside, however food was available to buy so no real downsides. Will definitely return.

Very cheap for an excellent location; right in the centre, a couple of minutes away from the train station with a great view. Wifi is only via access with facebook after liking their page!! So no free wifi! We had a quiet room with nice people on the last floor, so far enough from the noisy bar, which also smelt...

The hostel was clean, it had 24 hour reception and a very central location. It's definitely for budget travellers who aren't expecting many luxuries. However, there were no sockets in the rooms, no kitchen facilities I could use and wifi only worked in the bar. Also, no keys for the room was quite disconcerting. Overall, I had a pleasant enough...

Very friendly hostel staff and an amazing location in regards to the city and the main train station. However the building itself was dark, small and quite basic. Some of the sheets in my dorm were not exceptionally clean and that put me off slightly. The bathrooms were fine. One of my greatest issues with this hostel was that there...

The people here were so friendly. We walked in looking for available rooms and it was great. The shared room was very big and there is plenty of room for moving around. You are in a great location and can walk to anything from central station to the red light district. The lounge is always busy and has people in...

This is a very central hostel which accounts for both things in the title. However for the price we payed one would expect some extras such as a locker or free breakfast. None of this was included. The dorms are huge with 18 people sleeping in one room, the lockers all seemed to be falling apart, the rooms got very...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
