The bulldog is a great hostel for backpackers the rooms are pretty standard with lockers and a bathroom and the set up makes it easy to meet people. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is that incredible I plan to return in September. It is also a very safe hostel with entrance only allowed via showing a pass. The...

It has a perfect location in the heart of Amsterdam. Any place you might think about is reachable. Breakfast is its only draw back, but food is the last thing you think about while in Amsterdam. I kept eating french fries for 3 days and it didn't have any problem.

I guess a few visits to the gym might be in order after 3 days of nothing but fries! Thanks for the review. Safe travels.

Visited may 2014. Very clean and tidy place, well priced and staff great. Sun terrace great to chill and have a beer and a smoke. Fantastic location. Good bar atmosphere in the evening. Bouncers on in the evening so if your staying there you feel safe and exclusive to the hotel. Overall brilliant.

Stayed in the Bulldog last weekend(31st july to 2ndaugust), stayed in private deluxe room, overlooking the canal. The view/room, first and foremost, was absolutely perfection! decent size, nice bathroom, not overly loud, and then the view, ovberlooking the canal.. amazing! Location, literally a stones throw from Dam sqaure, with a lovely bar built into the hotel, and the famous Buldog coffeeshop(well...

Great location, great hostel and great value for money. The staff were very helpful, the room was clean and good (stayed in 8 mixed dorm). The bar is also good and I would like to highlight the great location again, just 10 mins walk from central station. I will definitely stay here again on my next visit.

My friends and I were looking for 3 nights accommodation somewhere cheap and so stayed in one of the private rooms at this hotel. The hotel exceeded every expectation we had after reading some reviews prior to going and met every criteria we wanted - location couldn't have been more ideal, high level of security at entrance of building so...

Thank you for your review. We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay. We also appreciate the constructive feedback and we have plans to introduce full length mirrors as we have heard this a few times now. As for the church bells, there is not much we can do about that and we find them charming. Ear plugs are available...

Guy who checked us in was informative but blunt. Only stayed for a couple of days so it was okay for what we needed. Little bit dirty and dingy but that's expected if a youth hostel :) Great location. Happening vibe. Close to coffee shops, bars and shopping.

Well, informative and blunt is the Dutch way ;) The Dutch are famous for being direct! We do our very best to keep our hostel in tip top shape so we are little dissapointed you found it to be a bit dingy but it certainly seems that you enjoyed your stay and to us, this is the most important thing...

Stayed here with 3 friends at the end of 2 weeks travelling around Europe. We stayed in the 12 bed dorm. Beds were super comfortable (slept in way more than planned) and the showers were amazing. Great security on the doors. Only complaint would be the noise of the cleaners in the room but other than that, we had a...

The location was excellent and the bar was great for smoking in with a very relaxed atmosphere and affordable drinks. Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
