Bulldog Hotel in Amsterdam has long been a favorite of ours, and after our recent stay, it’s clear that the recent refurbishment has taken this place to the next level. This isn’t our first time booking here, and we’ve always enjoyed the welcoming vibe and great service, but the updates have definitely made a noticeable difference.

The rooms are now more modern and comfortable, with cool designs and upgraded amenities that make the unique atmosphere the Bulldog brand is known for. The staff remains friendly and attentive, and the overall ambiance of the hotel is still as relaxed and inviting as ever.

One of the best things about Bulldog Hotel is its central location, making it easy to explore the best that Amsterdam has to offer. Whether you're here for a night out in the city or just relaxing after a day of sightseeing, this place remains one of the top spots to stay. The refurbishment has certainly enhanced its appeal, but it still retains that distinctive Bulldog charm. Definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Amsterdam!

My wife and I (late 50’s) have visited Amsterdam a couple of dozen times since getting engaged there in ‘96. We’ve stayed in lodgings of every class over the years, tending toward luxury lately. Our stay at the Bulldog last March with another couple was probably the best experience we’ve had in the city. The hotel is in the heart of the canal ring, situated across from the Red Light District amongst a series of Bulldog properties. Smoke boats dock and pick up passengers just outside the door. It’s a short walk to all the sights and entertainment areas. It’s a great place to party! The staff at the hotel (and all the Bulldog establishments) were friendly and made us feel welcome. We just really had a great time… Going back for another round right after Xmas this year. We highly recommend the hotel and their private suite in particular.

Stayed here a few times over the years but hadn't been for some time, but it hasn't changed a great deal, if at all. If you are going to Amsterdam to sample the 'culture' then this is the place to stay, centrally located, coffee shop next door and guests only bar to relax in and smoke if you've had enough of aimlessly wandering the streets in a blur and not knowing where you are going (or at times, why).

The guests bar is great though always seemed understaffed. They would take so much more money by being a bit more efficient on service. I witnessed the longest making of a cocktail I have ever seen in my life which included the precise geometric positioning of a leaf of mint on the top. The time taken and flair to make drinks seemed to correlate to the gender and general attractiveness of the person placing the order (FYI my drink came within seconds, albeit after having waited for the straws to be arranged just right in the drink of the attractive blonde next to me at the bar).

Rooms are ok and functional for their needs, somewhere to rest your head or chill if it all gets a bit too much.

Found the staff friendly, did not experience any rudeness like some other reviews here but a the end of the day this place is busy 24/7 and the staff have to put up with people just like me day in day out.

I would stay here again next time and recommend to anyone travelling to Amsterdam for that side of things.

Dirty, noisy, near the red light district.

If you do not like to party then stay far away from this hostel. The rooms are filthy not due to the staff as they do clean but the guests—they are all animals there to drain every ounce of nutrients from their body in order to fill it with depravity and excess.

The downstairs has a pub that absolutely pumps repetitive electronic music—coming from Canada this made zero sense. Clubs are for that kind of music not wood panels and brass taps.. but you are allowed to enjoy the herbal delicacies while drinking which is nice. There is a coffeeshop next door where you can purchase the stuff. It is directly across from the red light district.

I paid $65 for a bed in a 12 person dorm on Halloween—complete robbery so therefore I would never return. Although the staff was the most friendly and accepting in all of the Netherlands.

The room was a cesspool—ensuite shower is open and just sprays all over the floor. The washroom is not big enough for a full grown man, let alone 12. The beds squeak with any movement. The lockers were large enough to fit both my backpack and mini suitcase so at least the security was not an issue.

3/5 is generous

Was extremely disappointed by the way in which I was spoken to. Entered shop / cafe requested items which were put on the counter. I put them in my pocket and I as stood with my phone waiting to pay. The server snapped back where are the items you do not take from me without payment. I’m stood there looking confused with my card on my phone staring at the card machine. I advised I’m stood here waiting to pay?? I was alone and I’m in my 40s no threat of running anywhere. Was then called a derogatory Insult by the woman after I paid. Still so confused sent time and date to the bulldog cafe who have reviewed cctv and issued a warning. So they say but I can see this has been an issue since 2022 according to reviews. Would never return to any of these establishments . The place is an absolute dive also with lots of unsavoury characters that appear to circle you when you enter also

I have stayed in The Bulldog before (around 2006) and was glad to see it hasn't changed at all.
I booked a twin private room at a rate of €125 a night, which is really good value. They do also offer dorm rooms for a much cheaper rate.
The private room was small and basic, but clean and comfortable and perfect for the amount of time actually spent in there, and we were also provided with towels.
The location is right by the Red Light District, so there is plenty of bars and restaurants nearby, and is in close proximity to Dam Square and tram stops. The hotel has a loungebar open late and a smoking terrace on the roof.
Staff are really friendly and super helpful and there is an overall friendly vibe about the place.

For us, the Bulldog Hotel is the one place to stay in Amsterdam. It's bang right in the city centre, close to many landmarks, and is located in a spot where you can appreciate the Amsterdam busy but yet quiet city life.

We felt very welcome at this hotel. The Bulldog Hotel has just undergone refurbishment, and we must say that we found our room, the corridors, the lounge, the reception area and the rooftop terrace super comfortable and pleasing. Our needs were all met and the room is kitted out with whatever you might need if you are on holiday.

The staff at the Bulldog Hotel is super nice, welcoming and efficient. We were met with smiles at all times.

Cleanliness is top at this hotel. Housekeeping are marvellous and never miss a spot. The room was spotless, tidy and neat, while the bed was super comfortable.

Thank you for such a pleasant stay!

Had yet another great visit with cycle group. Well accommodating for cyclists.
Reception staff awesome and friendly. Breakfast staff rude and unfriendly. Breakfast to pricey but we paid anyway to eat on our bike trip that day to be told we couldn’t WHY ? And no notice to tell us. 8 X breakfasts is not cheap if the individual cannot choose when he/she wants to eat it. Only blip on otherwise great visit. Boat trip staff also awesome and we had a great trip.

This is place is awesome honestly and it pains me to write a 3 star review all because of one person. From the minute I came in the staff from the front desk, to the cleaning crew and the bar/server staff in the lounge were nothing but friendly and awesome. Even from the beginning they knew how tired I was from traveling and they even warned me about the suite I was getting that was left that painters would be working on my side. I was only going to stay one night but even with the noise the staff was so rad I decided to book 3 more nights.

The crappy part about this experience was the guy working the front desk right now! I went out to have a smoke and realized I needed a thicker jacket cause it was cold. The door was locked so I pushed it a couple times and didn’t realize they had a doorbell. The front desk made me feel like an idiot and told me it was common sense that I didn’t notice there was a doorbell… I mentioned how rude it was that he would say that and it was an honest mistake not seeing the doorbell after noticing the door was locked. I get it we all have bad days, but I came in here spending a lot of money dealing with more than I should have. Just a shame that one person would bring me to not be the biggest fan of this place now.

I had an awesome stay! The staff was absolutely incredible. Thanks to Jeff, Fatti, and Carmen (apologies if I spelt their names wrong) my experience was unforgettable. They were extremely helpful and friendly. The hostel had a great atmosphere. It was in the best location. The rooms were clean too. I would recommend this place to all my friends whether they’re traveling with friends or going solo. Thanks!

We booked a private room for two and it had the hotel sized shampoo/shower gel which would do 2 people for 1/2 showers each. The room we got was pretty basic.

You don't need sheets, pillow and comforter, they provide all that. You can even get a clean towel every day if you want. You can buy a padlock on site, it's around $10 and very good quality, much better than something I can buy in Walmart and bring with me. Can't think of anything you might want. They don't care if you borrow a cup, a plate or some silverware from the breakfast area in the morning, so you don't have to worry about that either.

It depends on your perspective. There's something quite nice about wrapping up well, having a hot chocolate and reading a book up there, even if it is a bit chilly.
