My boyfriend and I stayed here on a weekend break in Amsterdam - I was so glad I chose this hotel. It's within walking distance of pretty much anything you'd want to see - shops, restaurants, museums, The Anne Frank House, Centraal Station, the red light district - you name it! It's right in the centre of the city, but...

I stayed at the Rho hotel with my sister for 3 nights in April and it was nice and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helped us out with directions and places to see while always smiling. It is a bit pricey but I guess that applies to most places in Amsterdam and I wish the cable would have a...

arrived here with a group of 30 people. 7 of the twin rooms were unsuitable. My own room was so small I couldn't open my case on the floor. I asked for the same room I had been given for the last 2 years on this trip to be told I expect too much of a room I am only...

This was a girls trip to Amsterdam and the hotel is in a fantastic location, being 5-10 minute walk from central station and being on the edge of Dam Square convenient for everything. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was a really good size, complete with a safe and a fridge. The bathroom had a walk in...

I stayed in this hotel for a business trip of 2 days. Well, as described in the website, but the hotel was an old theatre and the hall clearly shows what it was in the past. My room at the top level was really but really small, with just small room around the bed and nothing else. On the other...

The Rho hotel is in a great central location just 5 minutes walk from central station. The staff were very helpful and after we signed in they always had our keys ready for us when we returned without us needing to ask or remind them of our room numbers. Good breakfast with every taste catered for. The room was quiet,...

There is nothing you could complain about with this hotel. The location is central, the staff are great and most helpful. The rooms are comfortable and adequately furnished. What more could you want. Given that the hotel is several buildings converted into one, I think they have done well.

Rho Hotel's location, right on Dam Square, puts everything you could want in Amsterdam within easy reach - yet our rooms, at the back (281 & 283) were incredibly quiet. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful. Our rooms were both larger than expected, if with slightly odd geometry due to the converted houses nature of the hotel. Both were...

All in all, I would say about this hotel: OK. Apart from its really ideal location at Dam Square (in a side street) and the very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful reception staff, everything else is far from ideal, including the price. The hotel consists of several buildings attached to each other. Mansard-type rooms on the highest floor are obviously a...

I can start saying it was the best bed I ever had in a hotel! Excellent sleeping comfort. If you want to experience Amsterdam you should choose this hotel. It's not such a good value for money, but the location is great. Everything is in short walking distance. The breakfast was good, it surprised me that they had fresh pressed...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
