We found the Singel based on online search. Most of the reviews about it discussed the nature of the rooms as being small and boring breakfast, but as being reasonably priced. We decided just to go for it, and agreed that we would move out after the first night if all was not okay. Upon reaching the hotel, we found...

I stayed at the Singel Hotel for 3 nights. Originally I had reserved the room online with a credit card, American Express. When I arrived to pay for the room and receive services, the girl at the desk informed me that they do not take the Amex. After talking about it with her, she was very kind about taking my...

I recently stayed at Singel Hotel with my teenage daughter during July 2011. We caught a train from the airport to Amsterdam Centraal. It was then a short walk to the hotel which was easy to find. The hotel consists of three 17th century buildings and the rooms were compact, but clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful....

This hotel is walking distance from Centraal Station. It is very basic, but the setting and good breakfast makes up for that. We had a room overlooking the Singel canal and I will definately return. Make sure you get a room with a view.

Although our intro to this place was a little worrying, it turned out fine in the end. We had booked a triple, which happened to be on the first floor (think half a floor), with full exposure to all the noises of the street, even with windows closed. Even with the window closed, and the door to the room closed...

Good location. That is the best and only point. Average cleanliness, tiny rooms with only basic equipment and splendid views of nothing except next building's wall (just about one meter away). Male staff in reception is nice, polite and friendly but the woman gives a very bad impression with her attitude; didn't like her ways at all. Breakfast VERY expensive...

We used this as our base for going to the Assen MotoGP as we had never been to Holland before and wanted to see Amsterdam. The hotel is in an excellent location, very central, with a short walk to the Centraal station, but it is just basic and so noisy! Doors get slammed at all hours and although the hotel...

Stayed here on business trip, was easy and quick to find from the station. Foudn hotel staff to be very helpful and friendly. Rooms average for the price really but then again find Amsterdam quite expensive for accommodation. I slept fine but my colleague who got a ground floor room said it was very noisy the whole evening. TIP: try...

We booked two nights at the Singel Hotel because its location on one of the most attractive canals was close to the center of the city and the major destinations one would want to visit in Amsterdam. Price of the room was just under $200 US a night. We were in Room 32, and it was ridiculously small, even for...

Staying in Centrum

Neighbourhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
