An elegant small hotel on Herengracht, with COBRA art of museum quality and quiet comfort, in a series of old homes on the canal. Feels more like a home than a hotel, intimate library, lovely dining room, thoughtful and accommodating staff.

We stayed here with friends for 5 nights. What a wonderful visit. The hotel is ideally located- walking distance to everything but on a quiet street at night. The staff could not be more helpful- with advance tickets to museums, restaurant suggestions and reservations. The bar is perfect for a quiet drink after a day of touring or dinner out....

This city hotel comprises of three or four attached buildings. Going to the some of the rooms is like going through a maze. The rooms are not large but spacious enough to be comfortable. The Hotel is centrally located with Canal views. Many attractions and restaurants are only 10 to 15 minute walking distance. The staff is courteous. Even if...

Once Amsterdam locals ourselves, we stayed here for just one night when we were visiting our old home town. We absolutely loved it. The location is unbeatable and on one of the most beautiful streets (canals) of Amsterdam. You're right in the center of the Negen Straatjes shopping area. Loads of sights are within walking distance. Great restaurants, cosy breakfast...

This hotel met our expectations and more. It is centrally located but in a quiet attractive area. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our top floor room was stylish, the bathroom (shower not bath) was pristine. We were at the back of the hotel so the view was only of rooftops but it was very quiet and peaceful. The breakfast...

My wife and I spent 6 nights at the Ambassade Hotel. Our room was lovely. Our bed very comfortable. The proximity of the hotel to the 9 streets was a real plus. The view from our window --- looking over the canal at the buildings across from us was endlessly appealing. Perhaps more than anything, we appreciated the warmth and...

Based on reviews on line and recommendations of friends and clients who had stayed there, we chose the Ambassade, and were beyond pleased. I had a million questions over the course of several months of planning, as I was traveling with my elderly mom with some mobility issues. I'm in the travel business and am detail oriented and like efficient...

We are just returned from a 3 night stay at the Ambassade, and we are so thankful to the way that the staff at this wonderful hotel looked after us. The hotel is beautiful, packed full of charm and character, and perfectly positioned to explore Amsterdam from. The hotel has grown it seems organically from a row of houses along...

We stayed 3 nights at the Ambassade Hotel. Very charming hotel, excellent location along a canal. Close to all major attractions. We had room 53 which was spacious, very nicely decorated with a view of the canal. The bathroom was large. The staff is friendly and professional. Breakfast was very good. The 'library' bar is wonderful to enjoy a glass...

Classic Amsterdam hotel right on the canal. The staff are so professional and the service was excellent. The restaurant on site is also highly rated. I had a canal side room. Convenient to walk to nearby sites like the flower market, Dam Center. No need for a rental car.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Over the years, the Ambassade Hotel has expanded considerably. Starting with just one canal-side building in 1953, it now has 57 hotel rooms distributed among 10 of these buildings. Eight of these canal-side homes are on the "Herengracht" canal, while two others are located on the "Singel" canal. Other buildings are in use by the Ambassade Hotel too, but for other purposes: a few houses further along the Herengracht is the hotel's Float & Massage Centre known as Koan Float and 150 meters further along the Singel canal you will find the hotel's conference room. Except for the building at 335 Herengracht, all the canal-side buildings are physically interconnected. So as not to unnecessarily damage the original character of these canal-side homes, small sets of stairs and landings can be found at various places in the halls and in some of the rooms themselves to bridge the differences in floor elevations between the buildings. Over the years, two lifts have been installed, making all rooms easily accessible. The Ambassade Hotel has a bar and restaurant/brasserie called 'Brasserie Ambassade' that specialises in the classical French kitchen. The canal houses have been carefully restored to maintain their authentic character and all rooms and suites have been stylishly furnished and decorated. The furnishings are predominantly Louis XV/XVI style with the use of colourful fabrics and in all rooms and public areas you will find original paintings by artists from the famous CoBrA movement. ... more   less
