2023 Travellers' Choice Best of the Best
The Ambassade Hotel offers the ultimate base for you to explore the magical atmosphere of Amsterdam’s canals. Discover the charm and character of this unique boutique hotel in the heart of a wonderful city. The Ambassade Hotel is an authentic Amsterdam family-run hotel, located in fifteen 17th-century canal houses on the Herengracht canal and the Singel canal. It offers 55 stylish rooms and suites, each of them uniquely decorated in a perfect combination of classic and modern. The location is truly ideal, amidst the Amsterdam canal belt and in the intimate shopping area 'De Negen Straatjes' (Nine Streets). The Ambassade Hotel is just a stone's throw away from Dam square and all the famous museums, shopping streets, and other main attractions. Ask our staff for the ‘Ambassade city bikes and explore the surroundings as the local Amsterdammers do. On the 1st floor, you will find ‘Restaurant Ambassade’ - beautifully decorated with artworks, large chandeliers, and with magnificent views over the canal. Here you can enjoy exquisite international cuisine dishes, made with local, artisan ingredients. During your stay, discover the unique collection of over 800 CoBrA artworks that can be admired in all public areas as well as in each hotel room. The hotel's ‘Library Bar’ is not only the place for a cocktail but is also a literary delight. Here you will find more than 5,000 books, each signed by famous authors who stayed at the Ambassade Hotel upon invitation of their publishers. At ‘Samsara Books & Art’, the hotel’s art- and bookstore around the corner, you will find books, gifts, and unique souvenirs. Ask for the unique ‘Art & Culture’ tours and packages, including a tour around the Art & Literature inside the hotel. Looking for a place to unwind? For hotel guests, special rates apply for relaxing float sessions at ‘Koan Float’, the wellness center of the Ambassade Hotel. Koan Float also offers fourteen types of professional massages. The staff of the Ambassade Hotel is looking forward to the pleasure of welcoming you!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My family and I stayed in a duplex room in late March and had a great time. The staff at the hotel went above and beyond with their friendly service. The location is top notch. Walking distance to everything, yet on a quieter canal street. The duplex was incredibly roomy by Amsterdam's standards with a large modern bath on the lower level and beautiful views from huge windows.. with drapes to shut out the world when it's time to get some sleep on the extremely comfortable beds. The entrance was just a few meters from the main hotel entrance so you can quickly pop over to get restaurant recommendations, check out the library or look at the beautiful art around the hotel.

Hotel's Favourite
There is nothing I would change about our stay at the Ambassade Hotel. Communication during the reservation process was prompt, friendly, and thorough. Check-in was flawless. Our room was comfortable and housekeeping did an excellent job. Assistance with luggage and our return taxi to the airport were 100%. Changed my mind. There is something I would have changed if I could. I would have stayed longer.

This is a beautiful boutique hotel. The staff was very friendly & helpful. There are a couple things that Hotel could do to improve customers experiences. #1. The hotel has two different buildings connected together. It would be most helpful to have a system of discrete different colored stripes, that would lead you to your room as it is an absolute maze. We ran into people wandering the halls trying to find their rooms. If you work there, of course, you know the building. But if you’re only staying for a day or two, it can be quite challenging to put it mildly . #2. I find most Americans make their beds with top sheets. Apparently this is not customary in Amsterdam & maybe elsewhere in Europe. With that said we asked that the beds be made with top sheets. We arrived back, after a long day of touring, to find the top sheets sitting on top of the beds, along with the towels for the day- meaning for the money paid for the room, you would think they could put the towels in the bathroom -where they belong. And of course the sheets on the bed. Other than those two things the hotel is located in a great location and as I said the staff is wonderful.

I have been staying at the Ambassade since my first trip to Amsterdam, which was fifty years ago! And it just keeps getting better and better. The location could not be more ideal. The rooms are spotless and stylish. The public spaces downstairs are comfortable and inviting. The breakfast -- absolutely delicious, with prompt and friendly service. The front desk staff is extremely helpful and cheerful. This time I traveled with my 9 year old granddaughter and she commented right away how nice everyone was to us. I have absolutely no complaints, no suggestions for improvement. They do everything with great care and concern for your well being. Honestly I sometimes want to stop by this city just so I could have a few days at the Ambassade. I always book a room with a canal view. Sitting by the window and gazing out at the stately buildings is my idea of total relaxation. A beautiful place. Truly special!

My whole family loved our stay at the Ambassade Hotel. The location is a perfect base for exploring different neighborhoods, and we could walk almost anymore in the city. We stayed in a quad room with two kids (15 and 13), and the room was very comfortable. The only downside is the quad room doesn’t have a canal room, but we didn’t spend much time in our room anyway. Breakfast at the hotel was also outstanding with a good selection of buffet items plus made-to-order eggs and crepes. Highly recommended!

Dear Sir, On behalf of all of the team thank you very much for adding your wonderful review, we're al so happy to learn you had a good time in Amsterdam. And sorry, indeed the Ambassade Hotel has only one real family room (our origninal 10 buildings werew very narrow and rooms are not so large), which happens to be at the courtyard-side. Hope to view from the breakfast room compensated. We all hope to see you back soon, Eelco Douma, Ambassade Hotel

I've followed this hotel's growth for over 40 years, from a small, elegant-yet-simple inn in the 1980's to a still small, very elegant and polished boutique hotel in 2024. It is a stunning place, well run, with excellent staff and charming rooms; the canal-facing room where we stayed last week was high-ceilinged, light & airy, with a fabulous bathroom and impeccable amenities. The location is superb (near everything, yet quiet) and the breakfast first-rate. Finally, the in-house restaurant was terrific, with an interesting menu of gorgeously prepared and presented food. We look forward to going back!

Dear Sir, we are so grateful for all your visits to the Ambassade Hotel since 1980 and it makes us really proud to note you do not wish to stay at another place. You have seen quite some changes over the years and probably will see some more since a few of our buidlings will be renovated over the coming years. We can't wait to see you back a few months from now, hopefully with warmer weather. Best wishes from all of the staff, Eelco Douma, Ambassade Hotel

Even though it was our first time in Amsterdam but we have been in Europe several times so we kind of expected what we would get from a boutique European hotel. Our experience met our expectation. The staff was very friendly and helpful with everything we needed to know. Our room was at the top of the building and we had a great view of the canal and the street below. The hotel welcomed us with a personal message card and a bottle of wine (however, we were already sick when getting in Amsterdam so we did not try the wine). The decoration was great. We also ate French food one evening at the hotel and the French food was excellent and it was probably the best meal among the 4 dinners we ate in Amsterdam. We also tried a massage at Koan Float (part of the hotel) and it was okay.
