Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This hotel is small but ideally located in the museum district, so very handy for walking to the key sites in the area or if you want to go on a canal cruise. It's also on the direct bus route from the airport and also for getting to the train station via tram. The rooms are not big (and some are very small indeed) but they have everything you need including tea/coffee/TV/hairdryer. The walls are a bit thin and there can be quite a bit of noise with guests coming/going. As far as breakfast is concerned, there is the usual selection but the breakfast areas is small and it's provided in shifts so you have to pick a time that you want breakfast the day before. The staff are pleasant and helpful. It's OK for a couple of nights but for any longer stays you will probably want something with a bit more room/storage space.

This hotel is situated very close to the Rijks, Van Gogh and Moco museums, as well as to Concertgebouw. There are many trams and buses you can get from just 100m away, some good brasseries, pizzerias, bakeries and even a small supermarket if your budget is tight. So the location is great.
The staff are really lovely and helpful, and the rooms are very clean. Comfortable beds, good shower, great pillows! Breakfast is good, with enough choice. There’s a small garden area at the back where you can eat if you’d rather, but early breakfast was always quiet.
The room we had was on the top floor, with a view of gardens at the back, so quiet for Amsterdam. Sound insulation could be improved, but we didn’t get disturbed except once or twice, very briefly, by some late arrivals.
I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Nice size and remodeled cool room. Clean and close to Leidseplein. It would be nice to have a fridge and reception people could try to be more friendly. Never tried the breakfast. Would stay again if back in Amsterdam.

We stayed once before at this hotel. For the second and the third time we bought a promotion with a discounted price + check-out at 23:00 h. We booked for the same promotion two weekends apart from each other. As soon as we arrived, even with the printed confirmation, they told us that we had to leave the next morning before 11:00 AM and that it was a system mistake and we had to leave. Just like that, we were not offered to leave at 14:00 or a place to leave our luggages. They also wanted to cancel that weekend "because we payed a cheaper price". It was raining cats and dogs so we said that we would like to stay that weekend but to cancel the next one. They broke the printed reservation for the next time in our face and told us "you cancel it yourself on the website". The only procedure to cancel is sending an e-mail requesting the cancelation and wait for their confirmation...
We asked for the complaints book and neither they had one, so again we had to send an e-mail. The owner, a sort of Italian man even said: "where are you going to go to publish this, Twitter?"
If a company doesn't respect the written agreements and disrespect their customers then it is not the best place to be.

You can fiend others hotel like the "Alfred Hotel" close by for the same price.

The rooms are clean, hotel staff are nice and helpful.
There was no telephone in the room so the reception staff knocked at my door at 8 am for a phone call that they supposed is for me even if my name had nothing to do with the person they looked for.
Bathroom is super small and there s no shower cabin,is just an open space with a curtain.
The sink was leaking every time I turned on the water.
Unfortunately you can hear everything that s hapening outside your room like it was just there with you.
The place is ok for the money.

they invented that we smoked in the room, which was absolutely false, they withheld our 200 euro deposit telling us that we had to pay a further 200 euro fine or leave the hotel immediately by blocking our card to enter the room. It's a real scam, something like this has never happened to me in my life. you are shameful I hope you will use this money to buy medicines NOT RECOMMENDED seeing from other reviews that we were not the only ones to have been scammed in this way

Lenzuola sporche,e capelli sugli asciugamani
Spero non ci andiate per non passare quello che abbiamo passato noi,un’esperienza che spero di non rivivere in nessun altro hotel

They will do anything to make you pay a €200 fine by making up untrue stories.
They kicked us out of the hotel on the penultimate day of our stay, giving me the choice of paying a €200 fine for something that never happened (saying that we smoked in the room, which wasn't true, we always went down to the hall, where they also reprimanded us so we didn't we didn't even smoke there in front), or leave. (I'll leave you the imagination to find hotels at the last second)
The sheets are dirty, the towels are dirty
I hope you don't go there so you don't go through what we went through, an experience that I hope not to have in any other hotel

Really good location, close to museums, tram station bars and redundant- walking distance to the centre close to 30 mins. Super clean and the staff especially Julia were extensive extremely polite and helpful. The breakfast was also decent. Overall I loved it and I am looking forward to come back

We simply walked to anywhere we want to go. Rooms were nice and clean, stuff was ready to help. Not a first class hotel but ideal for couples who needs good and not expensive accomodation. I would like to visit again.

Where would the nearest local shop be to buy drinks, snacks things like that?
Answer from Kooterslam

There are many places to by drinks and snacks. Even the front desk has a small amount of goodies for your purchase. The food kiosks are almost every other corner. The front desk is very helpful and I'm sure you won't have a problem finding something to you liking.

I also took the 197 bus and got off at the Concert Hall, just a short walk back to the hotel. Service and frequency of buses is very good. Watch out for a driver trick on the return journey to the airport - when you go to pay he may say he has no change. So you wait until the end and then go to pay again. At this point the driver takes the money but doesn't give you a ticket 'because you don't need it'. Makes no difference to you, but leaves a bad final impression of this lovely city nonetheless.
