Spent 3 nights here in 2004, was then a great wee place with a steakhouse restaurant below it. I believe that has changed now. Would still go back as it is a very central location just 5 minutes walk from the railway station.

Although it was in the centre of the city and accessible to restaurants, Grand Central station, tourists offices, palace, etc. but the condition of the hotel and the pricing which is way beyond expensive so now I will not go there again nor I will recommend anyone to stay there. The room was like a little bigger than a grave.

I found my stay pleasurable here. It's cheap and it's not far from the Red Light District so if you want to avoid noise and if you want class for the same price, go further out of the Center. You get what you pay for! The beds were comfy, TV worked and bathroom was perfect. Very pleasurable stay!

I stayed in hotel Damrak with my boyfriend and we had a wonderful time. Our room was cosy, with big beautiful windows that opened out onto the street. The location was ideal, a 5 minute walk from bars, restaurants, the Red light district and public transport. Overall a great stay.

Was dreading our stay here after seeing the reviews - but it seems to have been vastly improved from old ratings. The general areas of hotel need a good clean but the rooms are decent in themselves and the bedding is okay too. Each room has a safe which is a bonus. Not bad really - not the Ritz but...

We checked in and walked straight back out again, couldn't even face staying there. The room was dirty, there was a smell of urine and there were stains on the bed sheets and walls. There was rat traps under our beds. Please stay away!

Good Points: Location Bad Points: Incredibly noisy Dark & Dingy No Breakfast Narrow endless stairs, no lift Unwelcoming Over priced Cramped Did I mention it was noisy? All the rooms and stairs have wooden floors. People were coming and going all night and each time it was like a herd of wildebeest in tap shoes stampeding through the room. Unbelievable!

Neighbourhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
