Is this realy a five star hotel. The room was too small. No gym or spa. Breakfast was realy good. The whole style a bit outdated. Nothing wrong in hotel, but also nothing inspiring! Stayed here for Hotelnight!

The Doelen is at the heart of Amsterdam. We were told that this was the first hotel to operate in the city and though we could see its age in some of the woodwork this was not the case in much of the hotel. The bedrooms and bathrooms were completely modern, clean, and beautiful. The Swych Restaurant overlooks the canal...

Visited just before it had been done up, lovely hotel! Kind staff, great location, minutes walk to the shopping centre and minutes walk in the opposite direction to the red light district and coffee shops! Wifi worked great, no parking with the hotel. Visited in winter and the rooms were warm and cosy. Would stay again.

Travelled with wifey and 4-year old child. We stayed at the NH Collection Doelen for our x'mas and 10th anniversary trip. This is one of the best hotels I have stayed in - at least in terms of service excellence and location. The hotel building is very old (historically) - but charming and offers modern facilities. The pros.... - Excellent...

The check in process was efficient and easy. The gentleman who escorted us to our room gave us a nice history of the hotel. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that this hotel was in fact the oldest in Amsterdam (more than 600 years old). Also, we learned that the Beatles formally stayed at the hotel and that Rembrandts most...

For a Christmas dinner elsewhere in the center, we chose this hotel to stay for the night. We were received very friendly, and this stayed throughout the stay, which was only short, but very pleasant. Our room was a Superior Room with a nice view over the Amstel river. The room is quite comfortable and has amenities like a Nespresso...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
