Room and breakfast was lovely. However, on arrival the receptionist came out to the desk, barely said hello...and gave out to us for arriving early before check in. It was not very welcoming & not a great starting point to our stay.

Rooms are clean and quiet, even we didn’t get an room with nice view (only backyard from balcony) our stay were excelent. Localisation seems to be far from the city centre but it isn't, its only 15 minutes to the dom square or flower market. Personel is very friendly, helpfull and doing their best to satisfy to their clients. Breakfest is classic Buffett, but is cheap (As for Amsterdam), and very nutritious. I really recomend hotel larende.

My sister and I spent 4 nights recently here and enjoyed our stay very much. The room we had at the back of the hotel was very quiet and comfortable. It was well designed with good quality facilities. For Amsterdam too it was a relatively good size. We were offered a complimentary drink on arrival and hot drinks etc are available downstairs plus we asked for a kettle in our room so we could make drinks there. The breakfast is good with plenty of choice and coffee is excellent! The location is good on several tram lines which take you quickly into town. We usually walked though as its about 30 minutes to get to the train station, or 20 minutes to Anne Frank Museum. The hotel owner sells tram tickets should you want them. Everyone who worked at the hotel is very friendly and we were made to feel at home. We requested a quiet room at the rear of hotel which was provided. Thank you!

Despite some of the conflicting reviews, I booked a standard, twin bed room on the hotel's website for 4 days for early September directly on their website 4 months in advance and asked for a quiet room. There are 3 room types to choose from in this 14 room property. 1. Room size and comfort: My room was on the 4th (top) floor. About 16 square meters, no balcony. Photos of this room on the website are accurate. For larger and taller persons with large suitcases, the larger double room may be better. The standard twin bed room may be too small to share unless you know each other very well (like sharing with a family member). Bed is very firm - typical for Europe. No plush mattress or plush pillows. 2. Ensuite bathroom. Walk-in shower with a bit of mildew but good pressure and temperature. Heated floors (which make the room very warm), hair dryer. Amenities are as described on website. Fluffy towels but no facecloths. Bring your own. No fan to take away humidity or bad odours. 3. Noise: My room was directly across from the lift/elevator but no noise likely due to quiet guests. Windows are double glazed but room was on quiet side of building. 4. Room temperature: No air conditioning. Windows open (no bug screen) and there is a fan for airflow. Be aware that there are mosquitoes and flies. Outdoor temps during my stay were 20-25 degrees C. So no need for air conditioning or heat. Radiators in room for heat but likely turned on by management when needed. 5. Location: Good location for walking or taking the tram for sightseeing. Use google maps to determine distances. Do not rely on others telling you how much walking time is involved. Website says that Anne Frank's House is a 10 minute walk. This is true if you are a fast walker. It took me 20 minutes - walking at an easy pace. I did not use the tram - walked to most of the sights including Central (train) station, Dam Square etc. 6. Complimentary breakfast and hot beverages: Adequate as described by other reviewers. Gluten-free choices. Regular coffee is made by the cup but decaf is instant. Hotel was fully occupied during my stay but there was lots room to sit if you dine early. No restaurant on-site. Plenty of dining options and grocery stores in area. 7. Smoking. Allowed on balcony but not in rooms. Be aware that smoking cannabis is OK in Amsterdam so there might be those odours drifting into your room. 8. Front desk staff: Welcoming, helpful and friendly. 9. Elevators/lifts: One small modern guest lift but like most boutique hotels. If you weigh 100kg or over, or with a larger wheelchair it may be a tight squeeze. 10. Room payment. I booked on their website. Their policy requires you to pay the room in full upon check-in. Ask about their refund policy if you think you might change your mind about this hotel. 11. Getting to hotel: Booked "Cheap Taxi Amsterdam" on-line for trip from Schipol Airport for 30 euros flat rate. Hotel is in Amsterdam West. Taxi was reliable with pleasant driver. Hotel called taxi for my trip to the Passenger Cruise Terminal for 20 euros (metered). You can use public transportation as described on website but encountering the many bicycles and carrying your cases on the tram and airport train might be a bit challenging especially if you are tired after an overnight flight. My opinion: Clean, friendly, well-located and well managed property. Good value considering Amsterdam can be very expensive. Would stay again but no more than 3-4 nights due to bed firmness.
