Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It was a nice end to our time in Amsterdam. Hotel is in a beautiful area near the canals. We went on the Pulitzer cruise boat down several canals.

Hotel's Favourite
I want to take the time to include some detail in this review as this establishment really, really deserves it, so please do bear with me. My mum and I stayed in a canal facing twin room for five nights last week and we both agree that this has been one of the best hotel experiences ever! From the time of arrival until the moment we got in our taxi to leave, the service was impeccable - I’ve never experienced anything like the level of service at this hotel. The check in staff were so warm, engaging and helpful, the concierge so knowledgeable and thorough and the support staff so efficient that we were in awe the entire time. Taxis arrive within moments, items from housekeeping (such as some fresh milk, an adapter and some extra hangers) literally arrived within moments, and all while the hotel was packed to capacity. We only ate at the hotel once, in the lobby bar. While the prices were of course slightly elevated, the quality and service as well as the ambience were top notch. I want to spend a moment talking about our room. For the first time ever, I felt as if we were completely spoilt. Plusher interiors than even the pictures suggest, with not one, or two or even three but SIX gifts given for guests to take home with them. The room had not just a minibar, but a fully stocked bar with ice bucket, cut crystal glasses of various varieties, as well as a cocktail shaker and accessories. The coffee and tea station had Delftware cups and saucers, and even the kettle was a piece of art. The dresser had built in power points (perfect for blowdrying etc) and the bathroom was probably the most cleverly designed bathroom I’ve ever come across in a hotel, with absolutely top notch lighting and wonderfully hot water as well as excellent water pressure. The view of the canal was just perfect, and the bed was both very firm but very luxurious and plush too, with the best pillows I’ve ever slept on! Coming back each day didn’t feel like come home as my home isn’t nearly as nice as this. Honestly I could go on and on and on, but suffice to say, the whole experience was as close to flawless as I’m ever likely to experience, and the fact is that in today’s “profit at all costs” age, it was really the most amazing treat to enjoy a hotel that absolutely puts its guests at the centre, invests in top notch staff, and still values the art of anticipating needs. Thanks Pulitzer, if I’m ever in Amsterdam again, there is nowhere else I will be staying.

Management has been notified directly of my issues and concerns. Rather than air them publicly, my main comment is that the attention to detail (cleanliness, food quality) and attention to detail is lacking for a 5-Star hotel. It may not matter when the hotel appears to rely on contracts with Viking and other tour operators but as a frequent visitor to 5-Star hotels, I would rate this as mediocre.

Really lovely hotel, beautiful design, brilliant location, cloud beds (that's what we called them anyway). Me and my friend already agreed to come back here. The staff were so nice but not overbearing and we never felt out of place in such a top class hotel.

The hotel is quirky, in the perfect sort of way. All the original buildings are beautiful on the outside and the modern rooms are fantastic -- on the smaller side, but great. The staff is super. Breakfast wasn't included in my rate; so I ate at the bar every morning. Great food and a great vibe. I'll be back!!

Posh but cozy surroundings make you feel home away from home, especially with such an attentive staff and on-property indulgences. As a sober traveler, I appreciated being able to enjoy non-alcoholic cocktails in their beautiful lounge bar setting. Excellent location in the midst of a gorgeous neighborhood. Nearby restaurants and shopping abound.

We have recently returned from a two night stay at the Pulitzer Hotel and quite frankly were happy to leave. Based on its glowing reviews and 5-star rating, we were confident we had made the right choice. Sadly, the hype didn't reflect the reality. Our check-in and room allocation were smooth, well delivered, and problem free. However, we did not feel relaxed or comfortable in the public areas. The rain and windy weather precluded the garden seating, and there was a limited indoor space to sit comfortably. The reception area was busy, so seating there was unavailable and the hustle and bustle was not a place to relax. We had lunch on both days at the small restaurant on reception level - again, noisy, expensive and miserly. This is the first establishment where your order of soup is served without bread. We had to pay €7 extra for bread, unbelievable and a first for us! The first evening, we booked dinner at the onsite Janzs restaurant - what a disaster! We were seated at a table for two but very close to the deafening noise and screeching from two nearby tables. This was not ideal for a quiet, relaxing dinner so we requested a quieter table, which we were given. But the evening continued to go downhill - our dishes were underwhelming - my ravioli was messily served and the sauce was congealed. My husband's Duck Confit looked very unappetising and after trying it, he confirmed it tasted as such. Needless to say we paid the bill and left our uneaten dinners, still hungry and frustrated at money ill-spent. As if these grievances were not enough our two days were additionally ruined by constant loud music with amplified bass - we couldn't get away from it, unless we sat in our room. The annoying noisy boom - boom music was everywhere, in the restaurants and public areas. We remarked at the time about the contrast between the soft background music we heard on our just ended River Cruise and the awful blaring harshness of the Pulitzer music. So, to sum it up ... overly expensive, noisy, below average food and penny-pinching add-ons. It's without doubt one of the most disappointing hotels we have ever stayed in. The Pulitzer may have managed its slick marketing, but its delivery leaves much to be desired.

The hotel itself was good. Central location with clean rooms. Unfortunately, our stay was marred by an unsettling incident. We discovered that several perfume samples we had left in the room were missing following a housekeeping visit. Despite raising this issue with the hotel management, the response was unsatisfactory, leaving us feeling disregarded and uneasy about the security of our belongings. This experience significantly dampened our overall impression of the hotel.
