The best feature for the france hotel is its great location a few minutes from Centraal Station and in easy walking distance of the older city and red light district, this compensates for some of it's short comings. France is not up there as far as hotels go but still quite nice, functional, our room was quite small, as are...

After being reassured by the hotel staff prior to our arrival, that a fourth floor room will be a delightful experience along with the rest of the hotels' facilities, unfortunately we've been greeted by an out of order elevator, needless to say the staff at the reception couldn't care less (although they weren't fully booked across the floors below) and...

This recently refurbished hotel is very centrally placed in the heart of Amsterdam situated alongside a canal, within easy walking distance of the Central Station, canal cruise boats, the shopping street of Damrak and Dam Square and close to the red light district. The rooms are modern and clean. The hotel is reasonably priced and offers a complimentary breakfast which...

I stayed here Easter weekend with my boyfriend. It is the second time i've visited Amsterdam but the first time i've stayed at this hotel. It's a very basic hotel but you pay for what you get and you're hardly in the room anyway! The location is great, you can walk within 5 minutes to central station (which is good...

My wife and I stayed at France Hotel on our vacation to Amsterdam. We were not impressed by the cleanliness. There was gum stuck to light fixtures and the bathroom did not look like anyone ever cleaned it thoroughly. They even reused the shower soaps between customers. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone planning a trip to Amsterdam....

The hotel staff were polite and helpful for my friends who were first timers to the city. The rooms were smaller then expected but the price, location and breakfast were worth the smaller spaces. But with the accessibility and location I would gladly recommend and visit this hotel again.

When you're in Amsterdam you're hardly in your hotel room so it doesn't really matter! The hotel was a very good location five minutes from Amsterdam central station which is amazing for when you have just got off the plane! The room was big enough for three beds as well as space and a desk, comfy chair and tv which...

The hotel is in a great location just 5 mins walk from central station. Staff are friendly and the rooms are basic but have everything you need apart from tea/coffee in the rooms but there is a machine in the reception area. I stayed in a triple room which was big enough for 3 girls and all our luggage. You're...

We had a very bad experience. The desk guy is unserviceable , poor breakfast. It took them 3 days to switch us a room because of hot water malfunction in the room. The only good thing is the location. The elevator is filthy.

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
