Beware this is a guest house, not a hotel. Two rooms and not safe. We stayed for two nights, nice location but there was party next door so we couldn't get asleep. Front door was always unlocked. It says there's a continental breakfast, but this is misleading information you have to prepear yourself in your room and very poor breakfast...

The Amstel Canal Guest House is located right in the heart of the city on the Amstel River and is run by an amazing host - Ken. We visited Amsterdam in July and thank our lucky stars we chose to stay at the Amstel Canal Guest House. We had hoped for a romantic get-away and Ken went out of his...

The front room with the windows has a BEAUTIFUL view of Amstel Canal--amazing. Room is very clean and comfortable, and location is great. Ken and Alain, the owners, live downstairs and were very nice. We paid an extra 50 euro and got a very pleasant boat ride around Amsterdam on their private boat. Downsides: Bathroom is across the shared hall,...

I stayed in the "second" room Ken offers, as his main room was booked. This room is very very small, uncomfortably so for two people and luggage, and has sole window on an air shaft, big enough only to serve to hear the neighbors children and mother yelling at each other in the early morning. Which is probably good, as...

Amstel Canal House is a fantastic experience in a canal house located close to everything, and with an extremely helpful and interesting host (Ken). We stayed in the front room with enormous windows and a ledge suitable for sitting upon with a glass of wine to watch the canal boats go by at the end of busy days touring! The...

The location is excellent. Quiet, yet close to the bustling streets and with great views of the canals. Our room was in the middle of the building however, so we had no windows other than to a grey, 10 sq foot shaft. It didn't matter too much, though - it was cosy and equipped with everything we needed. And even...

We were more than pleased with this guesthouse, the interior design is very nice, and the room had everything we needed. Bed was very comfortable. No need to say you can't get a better location (just check it on googlemaps and you'll...

Myself, my wife, and my cousin all stayed on the ground floor two nights last fall, and our whole experience could not have been better. The very large room has sliding doors that separate the two sleeping areas with a sitting area with couch and coffee table. We were very comfortable. The whole place was spotless and Ken is an awesome...

Neighbourhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
