Detailed Reviews
We stayed at the hotel in Slottermeelan for 3 nights. Our first impression was not great. The hotel is drop dead ugly and quit unkempt outside with people sitting around on the steps and the front door locked. Once you get inside things feel somewhat better and the staff are really lovely and helpful. The rooms are a little tired and the small pillows are weird but provide everything one would need. Coffee is left but there is no food at the hotel and is is a no alcohol place which I presumed was due to it being in the Turkish quarter. The area is not the best with little to do and you would not go back to the hotel and then go out for dinner nearby as there isn't a viable option if you want a vino with your meal. A short walk from trams into Amsterdam centre and the nearby bus is very easy for getting to the airport and much cheaper than a taxi.
Overall impression is OK due more to the lovely staff than anything else.

Stayed here for 3 nights, good location, easy commute to the square / airport when you get to know the system.
Reception staff are very helpful and friendly, Michael the morning host is also very nice - 5 stars to them all.
Rooms are mostly clean (although noted dusty) and basic. Housekeeping emptied bins daily and replaced towels.
Good variety at breakfast, something to everyone’s taste.
The area itself is quiet, if I was coming back would probably stay closer to the city centre.

We stayed two nights, and we were a bit worried about the bed bugs, however we didn’t have any issues. The receptionist was very helpful, however the rest of the staff wasn’t very interested in the guests. The hotel is located a bit far from central city but had very good transport links. There is bus straight to the airport which was very convenient as well. Overall good experience.

very clean hotel rooms are lovely. it doesn’t look much from the outside, but the staff are very friendly and helpful, the breakfast can not fault it wide selection off different items hot and cold.you can book breakfast at reception. if pay for your breakfast in advance breakfast will cost 10 euro per day.if pay on same day will cost you 15 euro.only fault I would say hotel does not take cash.so need a bank card to pay for extra like hotel tax,Breakfast etc.which is a pain when you've changed all your cash into euros.but that was my fault.
It’s a 30 min ride on the number 21 bus to central Amsterdam, which we didn’t mind as can buy tickets easily 2 day ticket is €13.50 which we bought from machine at bus stop or a taxi will cost you any where from €30 into centre.hotel arrange our transport back to airport which cost €50 which we were very happy with as saved us £10euros and taxi driver came into hotel to collect so we were not stood out in the cold.would recommend this hotel to anyone

Travelled to Amsterdam on the Eurostar to visit the Keukenhof Gardens end of April, stayed at this hotel on B&B basis. Come out of Central station and take the No 13 tram. Buy the 3 day pass from the station or on the tram, better value than daily tickets. About a 30 minute ride, sit back and relax, enjoy the sights of the city and the different culture around. Nothing wrong with this, it’s the way of the world today. Get off at Stop Slotermeerlaan, turn right, short walk to the top of the road, turn left about 150m, hotel on opposite side of road, blue & square like it’s name 🙂. Reception very friendly and super helpful. Room on 2nd floor, toiletries and hair dryer supplied, shower lovely, comfortable beds. Coffee/tea maker supplied along with complimentary tea, coffee, sugar sachets and tiny milk pots. Fantastic. Poster on wall stating water is pure and clean and can be drunk straight from the tap. Took advantage of this filling our bottles. Breakfast was lovely, hot & cold food, good selection, tea, coffee, juices. Staff all round from Reception, Dining hall, Cleaning, friendly and courteous. Loads of eating places and a few supermarkets around as well as a shopping centre. A great stay, would highly recommend.

This hotel is a bit far from the centre but quite close to the airport. Trams run from 2 points near the hotel to the city centre and are frequent as well.
The local area has cafes restaurants supermarkets etc and are fairly well priced.
The hotel it's self I was impressed very comfortable rooms really comfortable beds, Coffee machine HD TV as well and spacious bathroom. No bar when I was there was open in the hotel because of current Covid-19 restrictions but have to say it was not a problem.
Reception staff superb really helpful and I was very happy for the price I paid , I will add it is worth signing up for the XO newsletter as I did get discount on Room Rate

+1
What a wonderful place Amsterdam is and the complete opposite can be said for this hotel. We had starting travelling at 1am, spent most of the day in the city and were looking forward to just getting to bed.
Upon arrival (7pm) the receptionist let us know that there was an issue with receiving bedding so our room was ready but the bed was unmade. We had to go down twice to request for it to be made, which was finally done at 9.30pm. The extra 'housekeeping' to hurry getting the rooms ready after the late bedding order consisted of one man sweating profusely to try and change the bedsheets of every room in the hotel.
On top of this, the bedding we did get had multiple red (blood?) stains on it. We gave up hope of getting fresh bedding that night, but requested it to be changed when the room was cleaned in the morning. The room was not cleaned and the sheets were not changed. When we returned in the evening and requested new sheets (again) the receptionist was unable to provide us with any.
We were both at a point were if XO had even given us fresh, unstained sheets to put on the bed we would have happily made them ourselves.
The staff were polite and apologetic and offered breakfast for one of the mornings of our 3 night stay, but the cleanliness and upkeep of the room were not up to the standard we paid for, with multiple stains, dust, fingerprints from previous guests, uncleaned sides, Silverfish bugs in the bathroom.

I have to say that the front desk staff, and Michael in the breakfast room, were great. But the hotel itself has lots of other deficiencies. The location, in a heavily Muslim area, means good luck finding a restaurant that serves alcohol. This location is a considerable distance from the city centrum. Public transportation is readily available, but it's a 30 - 45 minute trek. Housekeeping was very inconsistent. On 4 separate occasions they just left wet towels on the floor of the shower, which meant they didn't clean the shower floor. On a couple of occasions, I requested they service my room, while i was out in the early afternoon, only to return to find it had not been done. The person at the front desk laughed and said, "they do what they want." Hilarious! I rely on the complimentary shampoo, body wash, etc, which you might or might not receive each day. And OMG, the lighting in the bathroom and bedroom was awful. How anyone can shave or put on makeup with one light on the ceiling is beyond me. And, you either had the choice of one very bright light in the bedroom or two small bedside lamps that timed out constantly. Also, some of the hotel's policies are just plain greedy and draconian. Charging 20 Euro per hour for early check-in before 3 PM at a hotel that has lots of international guest arriving at Schiphol inb the morning? Pure greed. I could understand before 10 AM, but after that the room should be offered without charge. The rooms are obviously available, since they're more than willing to sell you early arrival. Oh, and no visitors to your room. In all my years of traveling, I have NEVER run into a restriction like that and cannot fathom its justification.
It was an awful experience, but not a hotel I'd book again or recommend to anyone else!

Me and my friend booked this hotel as there were good reviews, which is very important to us as we came from Norway to stay there for 6 days. It was also our first time in Amsterdam and were not familiar with the location. We were first checked into a wrong room than the one we had booked, and were told that we could move the next morning to another one. After we were moved to a bigger room, they told us we had to pay 50 euros due to the "cleaning from the other room", which we expect to be included in the price we already paid for our stay. Never experienced this before. Some staff don't smile, don't say hello, and looked strange at us when we walked through the reception. The next days our new room was not cleaned at all, one day they only came to make the bed, the next day they only came with new towels on the door. One day the cleaning lady also rushed in without knocking while we were in bed, which we thought was very unprofessional. We did not feel comfortable or safe at all staying here. We will not be going back here. Location is also pretty far from the centrum

Checked in ok. But the day after was lockdown.we paid extra for breakfast which consists of a very very very small plastic bowl of cereal, banana,a slice of ham and cheese and cobs. Our room was Unbelievable two single beds BACK TO BACK.We booked as a couple. The room was clean. Will not be coming here again. I agree there was a male on reception who had a face on that would sink ships. When we first arrived all the receptionist were quite young and greeted us with "hello, are you ok"
I am sorry to say this has turned me from visiting Amsterdam I will be holidaying in in very friendly uk.
