Hotel Montana Zürich offers a stay that has garnered mixed reviews. While the hotel's prime location near Zurich HB station is often lauded for its convenience, guests' experiences with the hotel's atmosphere and rooms have been inconsistent, with some noting a disparity between photos and reality, alongside concerns about cleanliness and maintenance. Service generally earns praise for efficiency, though not without some check-in hiccups. Despite divided opinions on value, the hotel's cleanliness and quality breakfast manage to shine through.

I found the Hotel Montana dated, uncomfortable with an unenjoyable breakfast experience. Yet, for $120 (AUD) per night in one of the most expensive cities in the world, what more can you expect?

I did not care that the hotel was dated but cleanliness and maintenance of rooms could be improved. The room was a little too dusty and the windows did not remain open (unless you wedged a shoe in them).

During my stay it was 30+ degrees in Zurich, as such, with the lack of air conditioning Sleeping was quiet uncomfortable. I did however appreciate the Dyson fan which made nights more bearable.

A key area for improvement needed at the Hotel Montana would be to look to improve the breakfast offerings. A greater range of pastries, breads, spreads and a self-serve tea/coffee station to prevent 20 minute waits for tea from the kitchen would improve the breakfast experience.

Their are numerous positives to the Hotel Montana. It is perfectly positioned close to the HBF, where you can travel throughout Switzerland and Lichtenstein from. It’s location to the HBF makes the Hotel Montana a perfect base to explore the region. Moreover, central Zurich is a short tram ride or even a short walk away. In the surrounding streets their are countless bars, restaurants and shops with a supermarket next door. The location was ideal.

Staff were friendly and welcoming. The TV had a good selection of channels but more English options would be appreciated.

The main overarching positive is the price. The hotel is far from perfect but $120 is a small price to pay when one can easily spend more than that for one meal in Switzerland.

What’s more, offering a complimentary breakfast as part of the stay is quiet generous and a big money saver in this very expensive city.

I would certainly return to the Hotel Montana in the cooler months of the year.

Dear Melb19721 Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your recent stay at Hotel Montana. Zurich was not a value for money city, Hotel Montana was our best option. The check-in process is unusual, while I had checked in online as requested and received the necessary QR code, the process is not streamline. There was still the need to check-in at the hotel but there was only one computer in the foyer and a queue of guests waiting to use it. Fortunately staff assisted me immediately recognising that I had a QR code. Our deluxe double room was smaller than I imagined, comfortable enough, there was no air-conditioning, luckily a portable fan was available as it was not possible to have the windows open to sleep because of street noise. The wet bathroom catered for all levels of mobility, there was no lighting over the basin, which I reported, but never fixed during our three night stay. The coffee pod machine was a welcome feature but leaked immediately on filling the water reservior, this was reported, but due to the hotel being fully occupied it could not be replaced, instead we were offered an electric kettle which was suffice as we prefer tea.
Breakfast was simple and plentiful, served in a pleasant room on the ground floor, background music played at a good volume. The hotel was in a handy location to the train station with several restaurant options in the neighbouring streets and a supermarket around the corner. Zurich is very much a walkable city, Hotel Montana was a good choice in this regard, not far from museums or main centre. Staff at reception and in the breakfast room were always friendly, helpful and prompt.

Hotels in Zurich are not cheap so we were pleased to find this three star close to the main station and city centre for a relatively modest rate.

It is located a short walk from the station, perfect if arriving or departing by train (or for an easy transfer to the airport).

We had a small superior room for our two nights stay. The room was comfortable with decent storage space, a kettle, a bathroom with bath/shower. It was all that we needed as we were not spending a great deal of time in the room. For those coming from the UK, the TV had BBC, ITV, Channel 4, etc.

The rate included a breakfast and this exceeded our expectations including hot dishes, cereals, yogurt, fresh fruit, pastries, juice, coffee and tea on request.

Before we arrived there was quite a lot of communication about the online check-in but in the end we checked-in at the hotel.

This is an unpretentious hotel. We could easily have paid three or four times as much for a luxury hotel and it needs to be considered on that basis.

This hotel offers an online check in feature, 24hrs before your arrival which i appreciate. I always like efficiency and anything that can be streamlined and digitised.

All you need to do is to download the Hotelbird app, register an account there. Login and retrieve your booking by selecting the hotel name, booking id (mine is from Agoda) and your last name. Then you can register your name, passport and put a credit card for deposit (mine was CHF22.50 refundable deposit after 7 days). Once the process completes, you will see your room number assigned and the QR code.

Once i arrived at the hotel, i go to the self-check in machine and scan the QR code. I then proceed to take an empty room card from the stack of cards and it will upload the room keys to the card. You can then take the lift up to the room and unlock it with the card. Official check in time is 2pm but if you hang around the lobby between 12-2pm, your room might be ready (depending on housekeeping and whether the room was used the night before).

The pros and cons of this hotel is similar to what others discussed. Great selection of breakfast, 300m walk from the train station (find platform 18 and exit from there), mediocre wifi, lack of powerpoints, no aircon but a dyson fan is included in the wardrobe (it was a bit warm during winter too!), It has double glazed windows so you can't hear the streets at all (except for the new year fireworks), strong hot shower and clean bathroom. TV channels are all non-English and no netflix or screencast available. There's a coffee machine in the room. There's a COOP supermarket next door and halal kebab shop in front. There's connecting rooms so ask for it.

This is a great 3 star hotel operating at 4 star level!

We stayed one night (Jan 27) at this hotel and found out later that we were charged twice, we only discovered this a few days later when we saw it in our bank statement. I rang them to be told that the finance team had gone home and I had to ring back the next day. I did and was told that a refund was on its way. I asked why they charged us twice and got an email (written proof) that they needed to take a security deposit. Not having any money back after two weeks, I rang again and tried to speak to the manager but had to try several more times before I was finally allowed to speak to her. She told me that there had been an error and that I had been informed of it. I told her I hadn't and that her staff had lied about it instead. I am very upset that a hotel can lie and expect to get away with it. They tried to call their bank but have now abandoned the case, they dropped me as soon as they could. So my advice to travellers is to avoid this hotel as their manner in unprofessional and they try to avoid you once you find out they have done the wrong things. They lie and take money quickly but take a very very long time to refund it. Most of all, they are unprofessional and untrustworthy.

I want to say though that I reported this to Booking.com and they responded with care, attention and they took my case very seriously. They continue to show that they are good business and are as reliable as the Hotel Montana are lying cheats. It's been 2 weeks now and they still haven't returned the money.

Dear Boyfromlondon Thank you for taking time and posting your feedback on TripAdvisor. As mentioned on the phone to you, I personally charged the card twice because I did not see that the payment was done on one of your other rooms. After 45 min I realized that your card has been charged already and immediately refunded the amount back to your card.Unfortunately to take money from a credit card is very easy but a refund always takes longer up to 28 days depending on your bank, which I cannot influence. As also written in my email, our credit card institution confirmed, that they have refunded it back and now it is up to your bank to charge it back to your account. Please be assured that we do our best to handle every request professional and efficient and I am really sorry for the inconvenience that caused. Please do not hesitate to contact me personally if you need any further assistance. With kind regards, Rafaela Saft Cluster Resident Manager

We only stayed for one night, traveling through Zurich. This hotel was inexpensive and very nice, especially for the price. Very close, walking distance to the train station. Served the fullest breakfast on our European vacation - eggs, bacon, beans, fried rice, and the usual meat and cheese fare. Rooms and bathrooms were modern and clean, staff was nice and there was an elevator. No complaints at all. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Coop right around the corner for snacks and drinks.

I stayed for one night at The Montana this week and having left a grubby hotel at my previous destination, I was delighted to arrive at this hotel. It’s so centrally located, literally 2 minutes walk from the main station and 5 minutes walk into Zürich old town.

I was welcomed by two lovely ladies into a beautiful and classy looking reception area, which smelled delightful!

Check in was online which was super simple and my key was waiting for me when I arrived. So quick and easy and I was in my room within 5 minutes of arriving.

My room was absolutely gorgeous with such a lovely soft bed that I just sank into. Real pillows and nice heavy duvets. It felt like I was in my own bed at home and I slept perfectly. The bathroom was modern and clean and had a lovely hot shower.

The hotel is exceptionally clean and very well looked after.

Breakfast is absolutely excellent with plenty of choice and is served in a really gorgeous breakfast area that has been expertly decorated and maintained.

I highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again without question.

During a recent sojourn in Zurich, necessitated by the interstices of international travel, I had the serendipitous pleasure of discovering Hotel Montana. This establishment is a veritable gem, discreetly nestled within a mere five-minute promenade from the main train station. Such proximity is a boon for the sophisticated traveler with an eye for efficiency and convenience.

Upon entry, one is immediately greeted by the modernity of check-in kiosks – a nod to the contemporary traveler's desire for swift, seamless service. The presence of an attendant ensures a personal touch, blending technology with the human element, a harmonious marriage of the new and the traditional.

The hotel’s elevator, a spacious contraption, defies the typical European standard of being cramped. It swiftly transports guests to their desired floor, offering a scenic ascent through the building's atrium – a visual treat often overlooked in hotel design.

The rooms at Hotel Montana are a testament to the establishment's commitment to value without compromise. My accommodation boasted a commodious bed, a plethora of modern amenities including a television and wireless internet, and, most delightfully, a window that opened to a panoramic view of Zurich's urban tapestry. The bathtub, a special request fulfilled, was the epitome of relaxation and luxury.

Cleanliness, often the unsung hero of any lodging experience, was of the highest standard, accommodating even the most ample of luggage with ease.

The pièce de résistance of my stay was undoubtedly the breakfast buffet. A cornucopia of culinary delights, it catered to the most regal of appetites, setting the stage for a day of exploration or business with gusto.

Location is yet another feather in the cap of Hotel Montana. Adjacent to the hotel lies a COOP grocery store, and a mere block away, an Aldi – both perfect for procuring snacks or sundries. This strategic positioning within the urban fabric of Zurich makes the hotel a nexus of convenience and accessibility.

In summation, Hotel Montana Zurich is not merely a place to stay; it is a destination in itself, a cornerstone of the well-traveled individual’s itinerary. I eagerly anticipate my return to this haven of hospitality, which so deftly encapsulates the essence of Zurich's charm.

Let's start on the room... It needs a deep clean! Bathroom needs a good scrub... old urine around the toilet, hand prints everywhere. Dust everywhere which left me with a bad sore throat and blocked nose! Light switches didn't work and no main light in room. Hot and stuffy!!
Loud construction site across the road. Hotel in general is loud. WiFi stopped working.

Pros: not far from train station. Good stop over hotel. TV has great channels. Breakfast included.

Especially with the price you expect a bit more effort to be put into maintaining and cleaning of rooms.

It’s not too long of a walk. Also, there’s a tram stop near the hotel and the polybahn. It’s two stops I believe. There’s a wonderful tourist office in the main train station that can help with day tours. Zürich is an easy city to get around using public transportation. I highly recommend Kunsthaus Zürich. It’s a great art museum.

Hello. I think you can leave your luggage only if you stay in the hotel for a few days before leaving for Lucern and come back and stay a night in the hotel before departing from Zurich. Still to be sure you can call up the hotel or e mail them with your request
